Week 2 Task

1. What is communication ethics?

Communication ethics is the notion that an individual’s or a group’s behaviour are

affected by their morals; thus, through applying these morals, behaviour in communication
becomes ethical. Communication ethics deals with the morally good in communication.

2. How does communication ethics affect communication?

Communication happens between people in any type of relationship—how one talks to

another defines and affects the relationship being/already established between them. This does
not just affect mere individuals, but even those big companies may be affected by improper
communication if they lack transparency to impart their data to their stakeholders.

3. What is social media, and social media communication ethics?

Social media serves as mediums to communication and socializing between users of the
network. Since social media is also used as a means to communication, the same communication
ethics, thus, must apply—how ever morally correct actions and words should be in personal, real
life communication must be brought to the internet in social media

4. What are the ethical issues present in social media sites?

Tyler Adams and Jenna Payne presented ten ethical issues present in social media—these
are as follow: (1) once it has been posted, it cannot be taken down; (2) one must be careful and
knowledgeable about Copyright and Legal Issues; (3) in speaking about potential clients,
stockholders, employers, or stakeholders, saying or posting any form of harm must be avoided;
(4) the same way, an individual must also think from employers’ perspectives; (5) in
addition to all these, good grammar must always be observed; (6) social media users must be
aware of the current trends and events; (7) creating good relationships is also a must; (8) the use
of misguiding or completely false information should not be done at all; and (10) social media
users must never be “stupid.”

5. Describe the paradigm shift in communication ethics to social media communication

ethics?

Throug h the years of the introduction of the virtual world to the people gave rise to the
growth of the connections made by social media—communication began being done without
having to see each other face to face. The use of communication ethics was not immediately
brought over to the virtual world, but the shift is present, though not quick.
