THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NUTRITIONAL STATUS WITH ACUTE

RESPIRATORY IN TODDLER (1-5 YEARS) AT BATUJAJAR HEALTH

CENTER

ABSTRACT

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a disease that often occurs in children,

because the child's defense system is still low. ARI in developing countries is still

a prominent health problem, especially in children, both in poor, developing and

developed countries. According to the data report Batujajar health center in 2018

frequency of ARI incident were 6845 cases. The purpose of this study was to

determine the relationship of nutritional status with the incidence of ARI in infants

(1-5 years) at the Batujajar Health Center. The method used in this study is a

correlative analytic survey with a Cross Sectional study design. The population in

this study were all mothers who had children under five who went to the

Puskesmas Batujajar MTBS of 770 respondents, while the sample size was 89

respondents using the Non Probability Sampling technique by means of

Accidental Sampling. The results of the study using univariate tests were found

for 42 toddlers (47.2%) with good nutritional status, amounting to 43 toddlers

(48.3%) with poor nutritional status and 67 toddlers (51.7%) experiencing ARI,

totaling 22 toddlers (24.7%) did not experience ARI. While the bivariate test using

the chi square test found that nutritional status has a relationship with the

incidence of ARI in infants (1–5 years) in the Batujajar Health Center with a value

of p = 0.018 <α = 0.05. The conclusion of this study there were a correlation

between nutritional status and ARI incidence in infants (1-5 years) in Batujajar

Health Center. The suggestion of this study was expected, for the Batujajar

health center to improve the provision of information or counseling periodically to

mothers to increase the knowledge of mothers and the public about Acute

Respiratory Infection (ARI), as well as for future researchers to examine other

variables that are thought to be factors that can cause the event ARI.
