The environment has been polluted in many different ways. The three major ways are
water, land and air pollution.

Water pollution is the contamination of lakes, oceans and rivers caused by

human activities. It can be harmful* to organisms and plants which live in the water.
Water pollution is also caused by companies’ trash and garbage. These can be
chemical substances that are toxic. Water pollution is the consequence of people
dumping their trash into rivers. The polluted water can cause cholera and typhoid
fever. Water pollution has led to the deaths of more than 14,000 people daily.
However, many solutions are possible such as the Clean Water Act of 1972 in the
United States. Its objective is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and
biological integrity of the nation's waters.

In 2014 a report* (2014) has been written by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC). It confirmed that climate change is real and that human-made
greenhouse gas emissions are its primary cause. The report identified the extreme
weather events and natural disasters, floods, desertification, and the tropical
diseases as the consequences of climate change. These phenomena directly
threaten the human rights, including the rights to life, water and sanitation, food,
health, housing, self-determination, culture and development.
The negative impacts caused by climate change are global and contemporaneous.
Climate change, therefore, requires a global rights-based response. The Human
Rights Council (HRC), put the attention on human rights and climate change with a
series of resolutions, and activities on the subject. The Paris Agreement* makes it
clear that all States “should respect and consider their respective obligations on
human rights”.
