Topic: Role of Youth in the Development of Pakistan

“I look forward to you as the real maker of Pakistan. Don’t be exploited and don’t be misled. Create
amongst yourselves complete unity and solidarity. Do set example of what youth can do. Your main
occupation should be fairness, to the state, to devote your attention to our studies. If you fritter away
your energies now, you will always regret.”

Quaid-e-Azam

Introduction

The young people of a nation are its future. Therefore, the future of Pakistan is in the hands of its youth.
It is a well known and undeniable fact that the youth of any nation can improve the conditions of the
nation. People of Pakistan have the same expectations from its youth. Amid crunching times, when
Pakistan is facing problems like it has never faced before, the burden to take the country out of the
whirlpool is upon it’s young people. These young people have a key role to play in the development of
Pakistan.

Why the youth has failed to contribute effectively to the development?

Pakistan is a developing country and youth in Pakistan makes up about 35% of its total population.
Youth plays a vital role in keeping a nation upfront at the international level as through their
contribution, a country moves on and on in the right direction of prosperity. Nonetheless, situation is
not that optimistic in Pakistan, a country where more than 50% population are comprised on people
who are between 16-30 years of age. Even with this huge majority of the total population, the country is
still trailing far behind as compared to other super nations of the world. Major reason behind this
dilemma is that our youth has lost its national pride and do not even think about the prosperity of this
country because a huge percentage of young people do not even want to live in this country. These
young people remain busy in discovering the ways through which they could find means of going
abroad. These young people spend major part of their time in vulgar activities and their hot topics of
discussion are songs, movies, video games and so on. Such youngsters are going far away from the
teachings of Islam and from the norms and traditions of our society. Because young people of this
country always remain busy in such vain activities, how can we expect that this country could produce
renowned scientists, engineers, political leaders? Pakistan will grow if the youngsters realize their
responsibilities and work accordingly by leaving their vain activities behind and act for the progress of
this homeland.

Reforming the youth.

However, it is upon youth to change this failure into a success. They must reform themselves morally,
ethically, socially and educationally and become examples for the world to follow. God has blessed this
part of the world with immense talent and creativity. Late Arfa Kareem and Ali Moeen Nawazhish are
some examples of young Pakistanis who have raised the name of Pakistan in front of the world.
Therefore, the youth must feel confident about their creative minds and use them for the betterment of
society. There is a great need for youth to realize the situation of Pakistan. Our country is challenged by
a multitude of social, economic, health and environmental problems every day. And our leaders and
elders are having a demanding time coping up with these issues of the modern world. Therefore, it is
upon youth to take the lead and rescue the country from this abyss.

Role in Education

The first and most vital step for youth is to educate themselves in the best manner possible. They need
to be willing to go out of their ways and beyond their limits to pursue quality education even if it means
going abroad for studies. Once they have developed their minds and skills, they should utilize them for
the good of the country. The youth should also support the less privileged among the society in helping
them gain education. The teachers among the youth must also play a key role. They must ensure that
they’re preparing their students for the modern world. They must not educate them about a subject,
but they should go beyond and instill in the students a sense of life-long learning and ability to think, act
and play their role in flourishing a better society.

Role in Health

The youth employed in the health sector must dedicate themselves to the service of the country and its
people. They must be willing to make sacrifices of their time and money for the good of those around
them. They should not be fazed by desires of wealth and fame. They should be ready to work for a
normal wage and do not demand more than the government can give. They should not leave their
duties and service as part of strikes and protests. Moreover, this hardworking and talented youth should
introduce new, more economical, more successful methods of surgery and operation.

Role in Politics
One of the worst things about the politics of Pakistan is that the entire politics is based on regionalism
and provincialism since the birth of Pakistan. The Punjabis support Punjabi leaders, the Muhajirs support
Muhajir leaders, the Balochis support Balochis and the Pakhtoons support Pakhtoons. The people don’t
care about how evil a person maybe. If they belong to their region or province, they’ll support them. The
youth must make sure that this absurd sense of ethnicity is entirely eradicated and is not passed on to
the next generation. The youth must identify the sincere leaders amongst us. They shouldn’t cast their
votes based on ethnicity and race but entirely on merit. The youth must also come forward to be the
next leaders of the country.

Eradicating Social Evils

Pakistan, since its inception, has been influenced adversely by the social evils. Crime, corruption, child
labor, domestic violence, terrorism, injustice, inequality, racism, kickbacks and bribery are examples of
evils that have been destroying the society since decades. The youth must realize their role and work
upon eliminating these evils and establishing a society based on principles of ethics, justice and equality.
The youth should start by purifying their own selves, then their families, their workplaces and
institutions and finally the society. They must just not accept these as evils but also take steps to ensure
that those involved in these crimes be punished and justice be served to the victims.
Protecting the Environment

One of the biggest concerns of the modern world is protecting the environment for the generations to
come. The world is challenged by environmental issues like global warming, deforestation, soil erosion
and weathering, natural disasters, water crisis etc. The youth must use their education and minds to
develop ways to counter these problems, preserve the environment and making this country and world
a better place to live.

Conclusion

The future of the society rests on the shoulders of the youth. These young people are the ones to lead in
the coming future. If the youth play their part sincerely and honestly, God willing, our future will be in
safe hands.
