PREFACE
This is a practical on setting out exercise that took place in order
to help the students of the Department of Civil Engineering to
learn more on the practical aspect of Surveying, also to have
the opportunity of using different instruments of Surveying.

DEDICATION
I dedicate this report to God Almighty for a successful practical
carried out by all group B members and for giving us the
opportunity of carrying and wonderful setting out exercise
successfully, and also dedicate the report to our parents and
guidance

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge the support by our lecturer Surveyor Sunday
Abah and also the practical instructor,

CHAPTER ONE
SETTING OUT OF RIGHT ANGLE
Procedures
1. Mark out clearly
2. Set up the theodolite A level
3. Bisect target placed at X on 00°00’00’’
4. Turn instrument clockwise until horizontal circle reading is
90°00’00’
5. Fix point C along the line of sight defined by the
instrument to give the perpendicular line.

CHAPTER TWO
SETTING OUT A CIRCULAR CURVE
INSTRUMENTS USED
1. Theodolite
2. Linear tape
3. Peg
4. Pin
5. Cutlass
6. Ranging pole
7. Tripod
8. Data
PROCEDURE
FIELD PROCEDURE TO SET OUT CURVE
The following procedures were observed
1. We set the instrument at a point of a curve, T1, clamp
horizontal plates at zero reading and sight. Clamp the
lower plate.
2. We set another instrument at point of forward T2, clamp
the horizontal plates at zero reading and sight V, clamp the
lower plate.
3. Sighted the horizontal angle @1 and @ in the theodolite at
T1 and the T2 and locate intersect point by ranging ew
make the point.
4. We similarly fixed other points.

CHAPTER THREE
Summary
The setting out exercise was carried out accurately and
successfully without accumulation of error in the setting out
operation. We carried out setting out of a circular curve and
setting out of angle 90°. The exercise has widened our
knowledge in the practical aspect of surveying.

Conclusion
We certify (GROUP B) that the setting out exercise, computation
was done by the group in accordance with the specified
surveying rules and regulations.

Recommendation
We recommend that the next setting out should be given more
time and consideration in terms of weather and also old
surveying equipment’s should be replaced with new ones.
