FYI
In next week’s Friday Folder, you will receive a
packet of information about Shared Journal. (This
packet can also be found on the right side of our
blog under Suggested Parent Readings.) It explains
the process, why it is important, what the children
learn, etc. Please read over this to help you better
understand the process. The children are extremely
excited about showing their journal off to you so
take time and read it with them. I only ask that you
return it the following Monday. Each month I will
send your child’s journal home on the first Friday
of the following month (so you have it over a
weekend.) I will always put a reminder sticker on
them asking you to return it. At the end of the year,
I put all the journals together for a wonderful
keepsake that serves as a written history of their
entire kindergarten year.

Walk to School Day will be October 2nd this year.
All participants will meet at the Lundy Chase pool
parking lot at 6:50am that morning to assemble the
group and begin walking. Please share this
information with your parents and encourage
everyone to participate this year.
NEEDED
If you have already turned in your child’s
permission form for the Pumpkin Patch field trip,
thank you. If not, I have placed another copy in this
week’s Friday Folder in case you have misplaced
the one from last week. Please note the easiest way
to pay the $14 fee is online at
www.myschoolbucks.com/. I will send you a
reminder for the lunch you ordered your child
(according to what you mark on the permission
form) and some ‘guidelines’ closer to time.
PARENT READING
This week’s reading is titled Rethinking Report
Cards and does an excellent job describing what a
‘standards-based’ report card is, how to read it,
why/how they are used, pros and cons, etc. I’ve
made notes specific to Auburn City Schools’
Kindergarten Checklist in hopes that it helps you
feel more informed at our conference. That way we
can focus on the actual content as opposed to
learning how to read it in such a short amount of
time. The article is attached to the same email as
this newsletter. It can also be found on our
classroom’s blog (mrssjonesclass.blogspot.com) on
the right side under Suggested Parent Readings.
