Global Diversity Website Assignment

An E-Portfolio is:
 An opportunity to demonstrate your skills and your research.
 A place to collect and save ideas.
 A tool for creating a digital showcase to send to employers.
 A website for:
• accessing your work
• track your academic growth
• and planning your career
• personal events
• businesses
 A chance to reflect on the impact technology has on society and our
environment.

As more employers only accept resumes in electronic format and perform simple
search engine reviews for potential candidates, developing an e-portfolio offers an
edge in the job market. This assignment will allow you to develop a website that
could be used to demonstrate your ability to build a website.

1. Create an account on www.weebly.com.


Weebly is a free, online tool we can use to build your Global Diversity Website
Assignment
• You need to provide: o your full
name o email address o a
password to create an account.
• You will need to click Add Site. (+) o
Choose a theme for your site.
• Next you need to choose your
Website Domain.
o Use a Subdomain of Weebly.com – this is free. Do not pay for an
account.
o Register a New Domain – for a charge or use a Domain You Already
Own.
 Using a Subdomain: Select the following URL of your website:
First Name Last Name Global Diversity Website
(e.g. AdamSmith Global Diversity Website) 
If you are concerned about privacy use:
Your Blackboard ID Global Diversity Website
(e.g. 900000000 Global Diversity Website)
Be sure to put your name on the first page of the website.
2. Learn how to use Weebly. Points will be given for creativity and using the skills
you see in the videos found below on your website. (5 points)

3. Click Pages Create the following pages:


• Digital Divide
• Closing the Divide
• Digital Divide in Education
• E-Waste
• Impact of E-Waste (this page must be a sub-page of E-Waste)

4. Digital Divide page: (15 points)

• Create a title Digital Divide.


• Define Digital Divide in 3-4 complete sentences.
• Compare the Global Digital Divide vs the Digital Divide in the U.S. in 3-4
complete sentences.
• Include at least one (1) image that explains the Digital Divide. Include the URL
for the image below the image.
• Research a recent article about the impacts of the Digital Divide. Provide the
title of the article. Post the URL of the article. Write 3-4 complete sentences
about what you learned from the article.
• Post a YouTube video that explains or explores the Digital Divide. To do this,
scroll down to the Media section found on the left of the screen in Weebly. Drag
the YouTube Icon from the Media section to the right side of the screen. Click on
the link and follow the upload prompts. Provide the URL below the video.

5. Closing the Divide page: (15 points)


• Create a Word document to identify and explain two emerging technologies
that can be used to close the Digital divide. Each technology should be written
in a separate paragraph and should be a minimum of 3-4 complete sentences.
Name and save the document as Closing the Divide.
• Upload the Closing the Divide document as a Scribd Document within the
Closing the Divide page. To do this, scroll down to the Media section found on
the left of the screen in Weebly. Drag the Scribd Document icon to the right side
of the screen. Follow the upload prompts. The document should show on the

screen. Note: If the Word document does not upload, save it as a PDF and try
again.
• Upload the Closing the Divide document as a File within this page in Weebly.
To do this, drag the File Icon from the Media section to the right side of the
screen. Follow the upload prompts. The document should show as a Download
File.
6. Digital Divide in Education page: (15 points)
• Identify and explain 2 examples that demonstrate the impact of the Digital Divide
in Education. Each example should be written in a separate paragraph and be a
minimum of 3-4 complete sentences.
• Locate and download 4 images that portray the Digital Divide in Education to
your computer. Copy the URLs for each image because you will need to include
a link to the website for each image.
• Create a slide show with the 4 images of the Digital Divide in Education.
o Complete the following steps to create the slide show.
 To do this, drag the Slide Show Icon from the Basic section on the
left of the screen in Weebly to the right.
 Click the Simple Slideshow, then click Continue.
 Upload the photos from your computer.
 Click the photo to edit photos.
 In the Manage slideshow photos, click the Add link button, and type
the Website URL. Click Save.
 When you publish your site, you will be able to visit the Website by
clicking on the photo.
• Include the URL for each image below the slideshow.

7. E-Waste page: (15 points)


• Define E-Waste. What happens to e-waste after it arrives in developing
countries?
• Upload a Map of a developing country that has been impacted by the shipment
of E-Waste within this page. To do this, drag the Map Icon from the Basic
section on the left to the right. Click within the Map and follow the instructions to
locate a country.
• Create a Contact Form that will allow visitors to contact you. To do this, drag
the Contact Form icon from the Basic Section on the left to the right. You MUST
edit the contact form asking at least 3 questions that are relevant to “E-Waste”
for the visitor to answer.

8. Impact of E-Waste (subpage): (15 points)


• NOTE: This page MUST be a SUB-page of the E-Waste Page Identify and
explain two (2) Health implications of E-Waste.
• Identify and explain two (2) Environmental implications of E-Waste

• Provide one health and one environmental image. Post the URL under each
image.
• Post one health and one environmental video link. Poste the URL under each
video.
