Before and During the Periodic Examination

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

I. Background of the Study

Exams usually |will be |is| may be} terribly nerve-racking for a few - they often
raise to cram a full semester's price of knowledge into a handful of hour's work. The test
papers will contain queries requiring a combination of narrative and calculations within
the answers. Study skills, tutorial talent, or study methods square measure approaches
applied to learning. They're usually vital to success in class, thought-about essential for
effort sensible grades, and helpful for learning throughout one's life. Study skills square
measure AN array of skills that tackle the method of organizing and taking in new data,
retentive data, or addressing assessments. They embody method that aid the retention
of lists of information; effective reading; concentration techniques; and economical note-
taking. it's vital to start out test preparation early to relinquish the most effective
likelihood of retentive the data that's required and giving it the that means which will
facilitate to stand out within the test. Like several students at a college, each students
square measure sad regarding the results they attain in exams. They will feel that even
with all they're doing there should be one thing additional -- or different-- they may be
doing to urge higher grades. Each Student have all at a while or different detected of
that student World Health Organization solely studies a handful of hours for final exams
and scores A's on every occasion. Students interchange awe of these World Health
Organization appear to ace while not undue effort and appear to wish little or no within
the approach of finding out to nail AN test. Study skills square measure separate
techniques that may be learned, sometimes during a short time, and applied to all or
any or most fields of study. They have to so be distinguished from methods that square
measure specific to a selected field of study (e.g. music or technology), and from talents
inherent within the student, like aspects of intelligence or learning designs. The reasons
for achievement, in what scientist suppose square measure the overwhelming majority
of cases, square measure less sibylline than several students think: eminent students
systematically apply a series of productive methods with read to attaining clearly known
learning and grade goals throughout the tutorial term. Additionally, it's typically the case
that students look for easy, short solutions to finding out for exams, attempting to be told
a full year's add the matter of a couple of days intensive finding out. In sum, the
explanations for failure or poor grades will typically be derived to the absence or break-
down of a productive approach to learning. Sometimes the difficulties students have
with making ready effectively for exams stem from a necessity to develop elementary
skills like time management, reading for comprehension, note-taking, and managing
anxiety. Whereas typically left up to the coed and their support network, study skills
square measure progressively instructed in High school and at the university level.
Additional broadly speaking, any talent that boosts an individual's ability to review, retain
and recall data that assists in and spending exams will be termed a study talent, and
this might embody time management and psychological feature techniques. During this
study, several methods that's required and/or vital to each students before and through
the examination. This study can facilitate them to supply concepts and knowledge which
will be required within the test.

II. Statement of The Problem

Examinations aren’t that hard if it is prepared but if not, then it will rather be difficult.
To sum up, questions were hypothesized to help the study more clear, accurate, and
easy to understand:

1.) What are the Strategies used by the Selected Students in Academic Track before
and during the Periodic Examination in terms of:
Before the Periodic Examination
1.1) Be Prepared
1.2) Review the Details and Information that will be in the exam
1.3) Always arrive early and take a moment to relax
1.4) Chat with your classmate
1.5) Ask teachers beforehand
1.6) Write a Cheat Sheet
1.7) Ready your Foods and Drinks
1.8) Memorize all the information and details
1.9) Listen attentively to the last minute instructions given by the teacher
1.10) Do a memory dump

During the Periodic Examination

1.1) Read the test directions very carefully and watch for details
1.2) Plan how will you use the allotted time
1.3) Cheat Sheets or Digitals Sheets
1.4) Look for cues
1.5) Look at others’ answers
1.6) Squeeze your brain for answers
1.7) Answer all the questions
1.8) Maintain a positive attitude
1.9) Rely on your first impressions
1.10) Plan to finish early and have time to review

2.) What are the Results of the said Strategies that was used by the selected
Students in Academic Track Before and During the Periodic Examination?
2.1 Does the result is negative?
2.2 Does the result is positive?
3.) What is the result or conclusion based on the findings of the study?

III. Objectives of the Study

 To study about the strategies used by the selected students in academic track
before and during the exam.
 To identify the strategies used by the selected students in academic track
before and during the exam.
 To explain the effect/s of the strategies used by the selected students in
academic track before and during the exam.
 To gather helpful ideas and information regarding the research.
 To be able to assess the possible result of the study.

IV. Scope and Limitations

The study is all about the Strategies used by Selected Grade 12 Students in
Academic Track Before and During the Periodic Examination. It was conducted in
Signal Village National High School Academic Year 2019-2020. The respondents are
the Selected Grade 12 Students in Academic Track Strand: STEM, HUMSS, ABM, and
GAS.

V. Definition of Words

Academic Track- An academic track defines a set of possible course selections

available to a specific group of students. They are analogous to the colored course
selection sheets common in a paper-based course selection process.
Assessment- In education, the term assessment refers to the wide variety of methods
or tools that educators use to evaluate, measure, and document the academic
readiness, learning progress, skill acquisition, or educational needs of students.

Before- If something happens before a particular date, time, or event, it happens earlier
than that date, time, or event.

During-If something happens during a period of time or an event, it happens

continuously, or happens several times between the beginning and end of that period or

Strategy- A strategy is a general plan or set of plans intended to achieve something,

especially over a long period.

Study-To learn a particular subject or subjects, esp. in a school or college or by reading

books.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGIES

I. Research Design

Descriptive Research Design was used in the study. It is solely interested in

describing the situation or case under the research study. It is a research design which
is created by gather, analyze and presents collected data. By implementing an in-depth
research design such as this, the researcher can provide insights into the why and how
of research.

II. Population Sample Size and Sampling Technique

The sampling technique that was used in the study is Simple Random Sampling.
The researcher will give the respondents an equal chance of participation. From the
Population of Four Hundred (400) Grade 12 Students in Academic Track, the
researcher randomly selected Forty (40) respondents.

III. Description of the Respondents

The respondents of the study were the randomly selected Grade 12 Students of
Signal Village National High School in Academic Track. A total of Forty (40)
respondents were used to participate in the study.

Academic Track Strand No. of Male No. Female Total

Respondents Respondents
Science, technology, Engineering, and 5 5 10
Mathematics (STEM) Strand
Accountancy and Business Management 5 5 10
(ABM) Strand
Humanities and Social Sciences 5 5 10
(HUMSS) Strand
General Academic Strand (GAS) 5 5 10
Total 20 20 40

The respondents consists of 10 Grade 12 Students from each Academic Track

Strand: STEM, ABM, HUMSS, and GAS.

IV. Research Instrument

The research instrument that was used in the study is Survey Questionnaire. The
Questionnaire is composed of two parts: the first part is multiple choice and the second
part is Close-ended Questions which helped the researcher to determine the strategies
used by Grade 12 Students in Academic Track Before and During the Periodic
Examination.

V. Statistical Treatment of Data

The statistical treatment of Data that the researcher used is Percentage in order to
tabulate and interpret the data that was gathered.

% = Percentage

f = No. of Respondents who Responded in the Given Questions

n = Total No. Of Respondents

100 = Constant number

Formula:

𝒇
% = 𝒏 X 100
