Description: Normal Consistency & Setting Time of Cement Past; Fresh and Mechanical Properties of Mortar; Sieve Analysis of Aggregate; Specific Gravity
of Aggregate; Unit Weight of Aggregate; Abrasion test of Aggregate; Fresh and Mechanical Properties of Concrete; Mechanical Properties of Steel; Tests
on wood (Mechanical and Visual); Impact Test on Steel: Hardness Test on Metals.
Student Assessment and Grading: Attendance and Participation (10%), Mid-Term Exam (25%), Reports (25%), Final Exam (40%)
Goals Furnish the student with basic understanding of objectives of different tests performed on different
construction materials. Teach the student the method of testing and ensure that he/she carry out the test
him/herself.
Learning After successfully completing this course, the students should be able to:
Out 1. Carry out different tests on cement paste or mortar.
2. Carry out different tests on mineral aggregate.
com 3. Carry out different tests on concrete in its fresh and hardened state.
es: 4. Testing reinforcing steel under axial tension.
5. Testing brittle and ductile steel for impact resistance.
6. Testing hardness for different metals.
7. Understand the objectives of different test and realize the significance of parameters obtained from
different tests.
