STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT

Human undergoes different stages of development. It is the series


of the:

*Physical Development

*Social Development

*Cognitive or Intellectual Development

*Emotional Development

Physical development

- refers to the advancements and refinements of motor skills, or, in other


words, children’s abilities to use and control their bodies. Physical
development is one of the many domains of infant and toddler development.
It relates to the growth and skill development of the body, including the
brain, muscles, and senses.

Social development

- refers to the process by which a child learns to interact with others


around them. As they develop and perceive their own individuality within
their community, they also gain skills to communicate with other people and
process their actions. Social development most often refers to how a child
develops friendships and other relationships.

Cognitive Development

- refers to how a person percieves, think, and gain understanding of his or


her world through the interaction of genetic and learned factors.
Emotional development

- refers to the ability to recognize, express, and manage feelings at


different stages of life and to have empathy for the feelings of others. This
may include positive and negative effect.

Nine (9) Stages of Development


1. Prenatal

2. Infancy and toddlerhood

3. Early Childhood

4. Middle Childhood

5. Adolescene

6. Early Adulthood

7. Middle Adulthood

8. Little Adulthood

9. Death and Dying

1. Prenatal

- Conception occurs and development begins. All of the major structures of


the body are forming and the health of the mother is primary concern. Labor
and delivery are primary concern.

2. Infancy and Toddlerhood


- The period that spans the second year of life is marked by the infants
switch from crawling to walking.

3. Early Childhood

- also referred to as the preschool years consisting of the years which follow
toddlerhood and procede schooling. In this stage of development the child is
busy learning language, independence and beginning to learn the workings
of physical world.

4. Middle Childhood

- The ages of six(6) to eleven (11) comprise middle childhood and much of
what children experience. At this age they are connected to their
involvement in the early grade of school.

5. Adolescene

- Period of dramatic physical change marked by an overall physical growth


span and sexual maturation known as puberty.

6. Early Adulthood

- The twenties (20's) and thirties (30's) are often thought of Early
Adulthood. It is the stage of life when grown ups become more independent
and explore different life possibilities.

7. Middle Adulthood

- late 30's to mid 60's. This is a period on which aging began earlier and
become more noticeable and a period which many people at their peak of
productivity at work.

8. Late Adulthood

-It is the stage of life from the 60's onward. In this period they are so
concern in their medical care and emotionally concerned when it comes to
the future of their relatives in life. Leading problems like memory loss and
decreased intellectual function.

9. Death and Dying

- in this stage you are experiencing freedom.
