Abstract – Banas Farmer Producer Company

Introduction
Banas Farmer Producer Company ESTD 2016 is located in Radhanpur, Gujarat which is one of
most backward area of area. The area faces an average of 400 mm rainfall which is also highly
erratic in nature. The number of small and marginal farmers constitutes the majority part of
population and farming is the primary occupation of that area followed by animal husbandry.
There is also an issue of soil salinity which restricts the types of crop grown, so main crops
grown in the area are Cumin Seed, Castor etc. Majority of this cluster grows Cumin seed which
forms major cash crop and seeing the commodity it has very high potential. Due to moneylenders
and traders the farmers are exploited and they are not able to get fair price. So, collective action
was necessary and with help of Reliance Foundation Banas Farmer Producer came into existence
in 2016.

Reason behind Selection

We have chosen the topic because in a small span of time the company has made excellent
growth of 900% in past 6 months and reached turnover of 2 crore. The company has a
shareholder base of 1086 farmers and has strong backward linkage. The company was also very
much responsive to external environment and had earned profit even after taking loan at higher
interest rate. It had also made a considerable impact on income of farmers and had good job in
reduction of their exploitation. Including this one of our team member had done internship to
create B-Plan for this company so we have access to balance sheet and P&L statement.

4. Was there a role of leader in smooth function of FPO?
5. What incidents caused the emersion of structure in the organization?
6. Why the growth of company at later stage happened at high pace of 900%?
