SOCIAL STUDIES LESSON PLAN

TIME: WEEK 2 16TH - 20TH SEPTEMBER

Lesson Details

Subject : Social Studies

Date: Week of September 16th to 20th

Topics: Patriotism, National Pride

Class: Stage 2

Teacher : Mrs. Nelson

Materials: Notebooks, textbooks, pictures, colour pencils, pencils, eraser.

Lesson Description:

Teacher will have a class discussion on Patriotism and Loyalty with class. Teacher will ask why
we stand at attention when the National Anthem is being sung/played.

Teacher will discuss other National emblems with students for example the National Pledge.

A note will be given to students and matching activities will be done.

Objectives:

By the end of this week's lesson, students should be able to:

Know the other National Emblems

Know it's importance to the country

Understand how to carry about ourselves when we hear the National Emblems being played.
Demonstrate Patriotism eg. standing at attention when the National Anthem is being sung,
showing respect.

Subject : Language Arts

Topics: Nouns

Class: Stage 2

Teacher : Mrs. Nelson

Materials: Notebooks, textbooks, pictures, pencils, eraser.

Lesson Description:

Teacher will have class discussions on nouns, for example: what is a noun? A person, place,
animal or thing.

Teacher will allow students to give examples of each.

Teacher will allow students to form sentences using nouns.

Teacher will show sentence structure with nouns.

Teacher will also recap previous lessons with capital letters for the beginning of a sentence,
person's name, place, days of the weeks and months of the year.
Objectives:

By the end of this week's lesson, students should be able to:

Know what is a noun

Give examples of nouns

Identify nouns in sentences

Create sentences using nouns

Know where to put capital letters

Demonstrate listening behaviours

Topics: Number concepts, Solid Shapes

Class: Stage 2

Teacher : Mrs. Nelson

Materials: Notebooks, textbooks, pictures, pencils, eraser, cuisenaire rods

Lesson Description:

Teacher will recap previous lessons with students with the number 10

Teacher will introduce the number 11 to students

Teacher will brainstorm about groupings of 11's

Teacher will introduce word names to numerals

Teacher will use Cuisenaire rods to show the number 11and different ways to get 11 from
rods

Teacher will help students to understand the different solids and shapes
Objectives:

By the end of this week's lesson, students should be able to:

Identify the number 11

Group things using the number 11

Write the word name 11 for the numeral

Develop an understanding of properties of solids and plane shapes in the school,

Name different shapes and also create a building using shapes.

Explore patterns using solids and plane shapes

Teacher will have class discussion on living and non living things

Teacher will recap from previous lesson

Teacher will explain how living things move, eat, breathe etc.

Teacher will allow students to demonstrate how different things move eg. walk run, jump, hop.

Objectives:

By the end of this week's lesson, students should be able to know:

Know the differences between animals and plants eg. how they eat, grow etc.

Demonstrate the movement of living and non-living things

Identify living and non living things by their characteristics

Teacher will have discussion with class about gardening at home with their parents

Teacher will demonstrate how to plant a seed

Teacher will use the appropriate potting medium

By the end of this week's lesson, students should be able to:

Know what plants need to grow.

Cultivate seeds in a grow box

Identify the different materials by correct names


Demonstrate by using pictures and drawings

Have students sort pictures in stages for planting a seed

Teacher will allow students to role play using these terms

Demonstrate using different scenarios what honesty and loyalty means to them

Topics: Identify, discriminate, memorize, sequence, isolate and comprehend sounds

which are associated with sound, symbol relationship

Lesson Description:

Teacher will allow students to read from reading books, identify different sounds and blends.

Teacher will sound out words for students to understand and repeat

Teacher will do rhymes and associate words with pictures for students to understand

Teacher will give spellings for students to learn

Objectives:

By the end of this week's lesson, students will be able to:

Sound out different words on their own

Read sentences and paragraphs independently

Associate different words with gestures and pictures.


Demonstrate knowledge of spoken words, syllables and sounds when reading appropriate level
texts with reading fluency skills.

Do dictation from paragraphs.
