Radiation Temperature Natural impacts

e.g. humidity, air, water

Chemical impacts Biological impacts Mechanical stresses

e.g. fat, oil, pollutants e.g. animals, plants e.g. tension, pressure,
in the air bacteria, fungi shear, vibration
Installation – Best practice

• Ambient temperatures at PV max. = 60°C

modules can reach 60°C - 70°C
RUBBER
• Tmax 60°C or 90°C of insulation
materials leaves no more room
for self-heating of the conductor.
max. = 70°C
• Usage of these cables leads to
premature ageing (shorter lifetime) PVC
and requires bigger cross sections
(higher cost).

max. = 120°C
Weakness of
Normal PVC, PE
Insulation

1) Heat caused shrink-transformation of PVC easily

2) Soft PVC caused by high-temperature causes bad connection

3) PE has an excellent electron features but melting easily

(ex.UL3239 using Insulation)
Theory of
crosslinking
by radiation

Crosslinking is process in which polyethylene molecules are

bonded together to result in a stronger material, substantially
improving the material's wear resistance at hot temperature
and other difficult environment condition.
Properties of • Tensile and Impact strength
E Beam Cable
• Deflection temperature
• Creep and fatigue resistance
• Stress-crack resistance
• Abrasion resistance
• Heat resistance
• Chemical resistance
. • Solder-iron resistance

When thinking about PV installations which are supposed to producing energy
for decades, long-term durability should be your guide, down to the cable ties
you choose ...

• Overall quality of the installation

Following relevant codes and standards

• Quality of installers
Photovoltaic systems should only be installed by qualified/certified installers

• Quality of components
Long-lasting, secure cable connections with low contact resistances are necessary to avoid defects
and losses. This is only possible with carefully selected, high quality components.

• Maintenance and inspection

Photovoltaic systems should be maintained and inspected annually by qualified professionals.
