Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7

Quarter 4, Module 2 Solar Energy and The Atmosphere

I. OBJECTIVE

A. Content Standard

The learners demonstrate an understanding of the different


phenomena that occur in the atmosphere.

B. Performance Standard

C. Learning Competency:

The learners should be able to:


1. Discuss how energy from the Sun interacts with the layers of
the atmosphere; (Code: S7ES-IVd-5)

D. Specific Objectives:

Knowledge: Identify the different layers of the atmosphere


Competency: Compare the layers of the atmosphere in terms of structure and
composition
Skills: Estimate height/altitude using a measuring instrument like ruler
Values: Exhibit awareness of human activities that lead to changes in
atmospheric phenomena (composition of gases in the atmosphere)

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminaries
-Prayer
-Checking of attendance/assignment

B. Reviewing Previous Lesson


Using the LCD projector, the teacher will show a picture of the
Earth and will ask the students what are the terms that refers to the
different parts of the planet; the solid part, liquid/water part and the
gaseous part.

C. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson


The teacher will focus on the third layer of the earth, the
atmosphere. (The atmosphere is only one layer of the Earth;
however, it is subdivided into different layers.
Ask: What do you think are the basis of subdividing the
atmosphere into different layers?)
The teacher will ask the class to study Figure 1.

D. Presenting Examples/Instances of the New Lesson


1. The teacher will ask students to see Activity 1 and will explain
the procedure of the activity.
2. Reading of data in the horizontal line (x-axis) and vertical line
(y-axis) is given emphasis in the activity.

E. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skill #1


1.The teacher will let the learners perform Activity 1: What is the
Basis for Dividing Earth’s Atmosphere into Layers?
2. In doing the activity, the learners will answer by pair.
3. The teacher will let the learners follow the procedure step-by-
step.
F. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skill #2
The teacher will ask a pair to give answers to the Guide Questions
in the activity.

G. Developing Mastery
Presentation and processing of answers to Guide Questions

H. Finding Practical Applications of Concepts & Skills in Daily Living


The teacher will ask: “In which layer does weather occurs?
What particular event in the environment makes it possible
for weather to occur in the troposphere?
I. Making Generalizations & Abstractions about the Lesson
The teacher will ask: “In general, what makes up the
atmosphere? How important are these gases?

J. Evaluating Learning

Direction: In a piece of paper, draw an illustration of an object (a


hamburger, sandwich, ice cream in a cone, pizza) that can represent
the layers of the atmosphere. Label and briefly describe each layer.

K. Additional activities for application or remediation


Assignment:
1. Conduct an advance reading about greenhouse effect and
global warming.
2. Bring 2 pieces of plastic bottles (1.5L), knife or cutter, scissors,
transparent tape (to be used in activity 2)
