GE India Power Ltd is a leading energy player in the country. It has expanded its business all across the
geography and is the leading solution provider for Energy. It is known for its strong background and
strong capabilities and out of the box thinking.
A business should respect, protect, and make efforts to restore the environment. True, and
none other than GE know it better.
In fact, GE as a company is also a leader in providing innovative solutions to the areas where
it works. Its CSR initiatives and programs help all the people across their area of business.

GE is a firm believer in CSR and sustainable growth. Thus, its ideologies and work are made
with these strategies in account.
The point of interest here is, that GE promotes its employees to volunteer and work for and
with the locals of the area.
It runs drives and awareness programs for the same. GE has 4 major heads under its CSR and
Sustainability Strategy:
1. Village Development:
GE returns back a lot wherever it works. The main functioning under village
development comes where they educate the villagers on finance, they create self-help
groups, they help improve the anganwadi and schools. Provision of safe and clean
drinking water is provided. They help in cleaning and improving the infrastructure.
Improving milk collection plants. Training the youth of village in low input
agriculture.
2. Health:
The villagers suffer from lack of proper access to the medical facilities and education.
Their low sanitation and literacy of medicine affects them, having to spend large
amounts on health and medicines, which cuts their budget onto good food and
education prospects. Health programs of GE educate them and tend to provide basic
health care free of cost.
3. Clean Energy:
Some village areas around the factories of GE, do not get proper electricity. Noticing
this, GE made it a point to introduce a solar power plant in the villages and nearby
areas so that the people could get a clean and more reliable source of energy.
4. Education:
Supporting education and children has always been their major concern. Promoting
schools, providing better environment to schools so that even the children wish to go to
the school. Providing with study material, looking after their health, providing water,
all the initiatives to keep the children at school and promote education.

Part A:
The nature of a business entity and an NGO are very different. The main aim of a business
entity is to maximize profit and that of an NGO is to benefit the society. Even though the
business entities are working towards a more sustainable environment, the main principle that
drives the organization does not change.

Critical Principles that will affect the co working of an NGO and a company:
1. A company is managed and controlled by stakeholders. Whereas an NGO is owned by
any individual, it a group of people who through mutual decisions carry out the work
and recruit people according to the projects they work on.
2. A company is governed by rules and regulations and laws, whereas an NGO has no
such governing body.
3. A company comprises of permanent employees working towards the common goal of
the company. And an NGO has volunteers who may or may not be permanent, and
devote only partial time to the goal of the ngo.
4. A company has its own funds and capital through which it works and achieves its
objectives, whereas an NGO is a simple organization which works with the funds
donated to them.
5. A company is never connected to the ground realities whereas an NGO sees and works
on those ground realities.
