Prospectus 2019
Instead of starting more regular Degree programs, NIFT initiated diploma academic
programmes to cater to the local demands & requirements.
Diploma Programmes are full time programmes whose duration may range from 1 to
2 years. Diploma Programmes are of 2 years duration and PG Diploma Programmes
are of 1 year duration. These programs will be offered in accordance with the
provisions of the policy approved for the Diploma programmes. The programme would
be conducted during day time in regular working hours. The usual classes may not
exceed 6 hours per day.
The Diploma holders may be considered for the regular 4 year programmes in the 2nd
year under LATERAL ENTRY SCHEME, subject to fulfilling the availability of vacancy and
other eligibility requirements.

Eligibility & Selection

There is no age limit for Diploma and PG Diploma Programs as these can be taken up
by people at any stage of life to enhance their skills and further their educational
qualifications.
Minimum educational qualification for admission to Diploma Programmes is as
follows:
Diploma Programme
A pass in 10+2 (12th Standard) in any discipline (or) 3 or 4 years Diploma recognized
by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education. Candidates with 2-3 years of work
experience preferable
Post Graduate Diploma Programme
Undergraduate Degree from any recognized Institute/ University.
Candidates with 2-3 years of work experience preferable.

Students undertaking the Diploma Programs are expected to maintain a high order of
discipline in and out of the campus. Reports of complaints on behavioral lapses or
indiscipline from faculty staff or from the public would be viewed seriously.
Over all 65 % attendance would be required to complete the program.

Fashion Fit & Style

This 2 years Diploma Programme in Fashion Fit & Style offers a training program in
the field of technical design and artistic skills that integrates theory and practice.
This programme is carefully structured to spur professional growth that is relevant
to individuals at different stages of their careers.

The flexible schedule enables the participants to pursue the programme without
interrupting their professional activities. The programme covers Fashion Studies,
Pattern Making, Draping, Illustration, Garment Construction, Fashion Styling and
Costume Study

Apparel Production & Merchandising

A Post Graduate Diploma programme aimed towards providing the requisite skill
sets, in theory and practice, in apparel manufacturing and merchandising areas.
Seamlessly integrating the two vital aspects of an apparel business, the course
provides inputs from basic raw materials consumed in the industry to the machines
used as well as the understanding all nuances of garments on one side while on the
other, it provides a balanced view of the merchandising process with inputs in
design understanding as well as hands on training on making patterns and
garments to have a holistic view of the process.
As an additional learning, students will be required to undertake an eight week
internship in any apparel firm of their choice where they will be expected to
integrate their classroom learning with the practical observations in all the
functions of the firm so that they can apply it in their work later.

How to Apply?
Instructions for filling up the application for Diploma & PG Diploma Programmes:
Submission of Application form: The application along with the prospectus can be
obtained from NIFT campus on payment of Rs. 200/- (excluding GST) in person or by post
enclosing a DD of Rs.300/- in favour of NIFT payable at Chennai.

The duly filled in application along with the registration fee of Rs.2000/- (Non-refundable)
by DD in favour of NIFT payable at Chennai shall be submitted in person at NIFT Campus
Chennai or by post in the following address:

Hostel
Limited no. of seats are available in the hostel. The allotment of hostel will be based on
first cum first serve basis. The hostel fee of Rs.1,28,650/- for AC & Rs.1,07,650/- for non-AC
(subject to revision - including mess fee & transportation fee) will be paid along with the
Tuition fee on selection.
