CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the paper

Inpatient services are activities carried out in the inpatient room in an effort to
improve health in the form of disease prevention, healing, recovery and health care.
Health services must be in accordance with the authority, responsibilities and ethical
codes of the nursing profession (Nursalam 2008). Nursing provides hospital services 24
hours a day and has constant contact with patients. Therefore, nursing services in

determine the quality of hospital services. Duties and responsibilities of nurses are not
easy things to bear. On one hand the nurse is responsible for physical, administrative
duties of the institution where he works, dealing with anxiety, complaints and patient’s
self defense mechanisms that arise in patients due to illness, tension, boredom in dealing
with patients with conditions that suffer from critical illness or terminal conditions, on the
other hand he was demanded to always have to appear as a good nurse profile by his
patients. Various situations and demands of work experienced can be a potential source of
stress (Golizeck, 2005).

Injection is often referred to as 'shot' or 'jab' in English, is the process of entering fluid into the
body using a needle. In medical practice, fluids that are often put into the body through injection are
drugs and vitamins. Injection is one of the most common health care procedures. Most injections are
carried out in the context of curative care, while a small portion are for immunization. Injection is
usually done to achieve certain medical goals. Starting from healing, to preventing disease. Fluid
given by injection will usually be adjusted to what the body needs, or as prescribed by the doctor.

2. applying an infussion

Infusion is the introduction of a liquid or drug into the body through the intravenous route at a
constant rate for a certain period of time. The infusion is done for a patient who needs medication
very quickly or needs medication slowly but continuously. Giving drugs or fluids into the body
through the mouth will enter the digestive process first so it is not quickly absorbed by the body. The
infusion is carried out by inserting a small needle into the blood vessel arteries. The speed at which
the patient absorbs IV fluids depends on the state of the patient's body and the illness. The number of
drops of intravenous fluids every minute will be monitored by a nurse.

3. Injury care

Injury care is an aseptic technique that repairs wounds from debris to improve the wound
healing process.
