2.0 BACKGROUND
Petrobras and partners (henceforth the “Client”) are developing the "Carioca Wells" within
the concession areas related to the Santos Basin, off the coast of Brazil. The Client invited the
Schahin Group and MODEC International, Inc. (henceforth the “Company”) to tender FPSO
specifications for a VLCC conversion scenario with a minimum storage capacity of
1,600,000 bbl of crude oil. The Client specified that the FPSO shall be spread-moored in a
maximum water depth of 2,126 meters.
The FPSO is intended to receive production from subsea oil wells and shall have production
plant facilities to process the fluids from the subsea production, stabilize them, and separate
produced water and natural gas. Processed liquids shall be metered, stored in the vessel cargo
storage tanks, and offloaded to shuttle tankers.
High CO2 concentrate produced gas shall be compressed, dehydrated, and used as a fuel gas.
Surplus gas shall be injected into the reservoir. Low CO2 gas shall be imported for fuel gas
and gas lift use as well as combined with the high CO2 produced gas for reservoir injection.
Produced water shall be disposed of overboard after appropriate treatment.
The Process Plant shall have the following capacity:
• Production and treatment of 19,200 Sm3/day of liquids (at 15.6 ºC and 101.3 kPa (a)) and
up to 16,000 Sm3/d of crude oil (at 15.6 ºC and 101.3 kPa (a)) and 16,000 m³/d of
produced water.
• Treatment and compression of 5,000,000 Sm3/d of associated gas.
• Treated seawater injection capacity of 19,200 m3/d at 25,000 kPa (a).
3.0 BASIS
International regulations under which the offshore facility is built and operated require that a
uniform scheme be used to identify pipes and pipe systems containing hazardous fluids or
pressures. Moreover, the adoption of and adherence to a recognized industry practice for the
identification of potential hazards are important elements of the Company’s HSEQ strategy.
The Company’s standard 0003 “Topsides Paint Color Scheme and Pipe Marking
Specification,” 0381-MI20-00S1-0031, follows the ANSI / ASME A13.1 “Pipe Labeling
Requirements,” which does not consider Brazilian National Regulations. Therefore, this
document is for Brazilian offshore projects only, as it is specific to the locale.

4.0 GENERAL
The Brazilian Regulatory Standards (NR-26 and NR-30) aim at establishing the colors that
must be used at work sites to prevent accidents, identifying safety equipment, delimiting
areas, identifying the channeling employed in the industries for the transportation of liquids
and gases and warning against risks. Colors must be adopted for security purposes to indicate
and warn about existing risks.

• external faces of pulleys and gears, when exposed
• edges of cutting devices, saws or presses
• The color orange must be used on offshore salvage equipment, such as circular buoys,
life-jackets, rescue boats, salvage ships, among other things, and also it must be used to
identify cupboards containing the set of equipment used for the control of pollution
described in the MARPOL Convention.
5.3.8 Purple
Purple shall be used to indicate the dangers coming from penetrating electro-magnetic
radiation and nuclear particles. Purple shall be used to identify:

5.3.12 Brown
The color brown can be utilized, at the discretion of the Facility Operator, to identify any
fluid not identifiable by the other colors stated within this specification.
5.4 MACHINERY
The environments, the bodies of the machinery, and the mechanical equipment in general
must be painted in light colors, at the discretion of the Facility Operator, with a view to
providing greater safety, better ergonomic conditions, ease for works of operation, inspection
and maintenance, and greater energy and lighting efficiency.
With the exception of green, white, and black, the other colors standardized in this
specification shall not be used for the paintwork of the body of machinery.
5.5 PIPING
Industrial piping systems for liquid and gas shall have color applied in the whole extension of
the piping for easy identification of the product and to avoid accidents. All piping fittings
shall be painted with the basic colors according to the product (i.e., same color code of
piping). For safety reasons, reservoirs or fixed tanks storing fluids shall be indicated by the
same color code used on the piping. The flow direction, whenever needed, will be indicated

6.1 STRIPING
Whenever a more detailed identification is required (concentration, temperature, pressure,
purity, etc.), the differentiation will be done by stripes of different colors applied over the
basic color.
Stripes shall be easily recognizable and viewable on all parts of the piping. The maximum
distance between color indicator stripes shall be 25 feet (8 meters). Color stripe width shall be
a minimum of 40% of the outside diameter of the pipe, but shall not to be less than 3 inches
(75 mm). For the pipe diameter less than 3 inches (75 mm), the width may be equal to the
outside diameter.
The color yellow can be combined with the color black to obtain a greater contrast. Black
stripes (verticals or diagonals) and black squares will be used over yellow when a better
visibility for the signaling is required.
6.2 LABELS
The legend labels and color indicator bands should be provided at suitable locations along the
length of each pipe branch line, so that they can be easily seen and read by Operators and
Technicians. The legend should be close to valves or flanges and adjacent to changes in
direction, branches, and where pipes pass through walls or floors, unless this shall result in
excessive and/or ambiguous labeling. The Company permits practical variations in this case.
For example, the placement of the legend in the middle of the visible length of pipe may be
more in keeping with the purpose of pipe marking. Expert professional safe-practice shall
always be observed in any variation.
