Independent Station Expectations 


You are to work ​silently​ and ​independently​ for the duration of the rotation. If you have a 
question, raise your hand so Ms. Chavez can assist you. ​Do not ask your neighbors​. 
 
If Ms. Chavez cannot promptly assist you, move on to another part of the assignment, 
leaving room for what is confusing. 
 
Use this ​Google Timer​ to time yourself for each section.​ ​Make sure to turn the sound off. 
 
I will do ​2 spot checks​ during your work time to make sure you are actively working. I 
included a reminder for when these checks will occur in your directions. 
 

Part 1 - Vocabulary​ ​(10 min) 


RIGHT SIDE  
1. Write “​VOCABULARY​.” 
2. Copy the following words and definitions down in black pen. 
a. Endotherm​: organism that generates its body heat internally by its own 
metabolism 
b. Ectotherm​: animal that cannot regulate its body temperature through its 
metabolism and obtains its body heat from the external environment 
c. Radiometric dating​: uses the decay of radioactive elements to measure the 
age of rock 
d. Temporal​: relating to time 
e. Fossil​: preserved evidence of an organism that provides evidence of past life 
f. Transitional species​: fossils or organisms that show the state between an 
old form and a new one  
g. Reliability​: the degree to which the result of a measurement, calculation, or 
specification can be depended on to be accurate
