History of Biology: Biologists and their contributions

I. Introduction:

During the primitive era, people started to develop a great

concern in the field of practical life science. They were able to
plant different types of medicinal plants and raised domesticated
animals. In ancient times, people of China, India and Middle East
acquired higher knowledge about plants and animals. Egyptians
learned techniques in the field of anatomy and physiology
particularly in preserving a body of dead relative.
Today, various innovations in the field of biology take
place and present biologists believed that there is more
advancement expected in the future.

II. Objectives:
1. Trace the historical background of biology from prehistoric up to the
modern era.
2. Determine the important contributions of the different biologists from
past up to the present times.
3. Create a “Biology Tree” showing the historical background of life science
from ancient up to the present times.
4. Plans and implements effectively and efficiently assigned events, tasks, or
activities.

III. Materials:
Manila paper or cartolina
Pentel pen
Pencil
Coloring materials

IV. Procedure:

Based on the timetable given below, create a “Biology Tree” showing the
historical background of life science using the required materials.

Brief History of Biology

Year Biologists Contributions

10. 1953 --Watson and Crick Proposed a model of the molecular structure of
DNA.
11. 1996 --Ian Wilmut First successful cloning of sheep.
