In not less than 5 sentences, describe the following publications using your own
perception: (Relevance, purpose/use, limitations, etc.)

1. Advisory Circulars

2. Type Certificate Data Sheet

3. Aircraft Specifications

4. Supplemental Type Certificate

1. Advisory Circulars are an informational documents produced by the Federal

Aviation Administration. They are issued to inform and provide guidance to
institutions and individuals within the aviation industry and the general public.
They can be distributed by the FAA to pilots, mechanics, operators, airport
managers, manufacturers, and the general public. The subject of the advisory
circulars usually involves aircrafts, airports, flying school, pilots operations, or
main maintainers. They are informative in nature, however, some of the advisory
circulars have effect of describing actions, advices and regulations.

2. Type Certificate Data Sheet or TCDS is a part of the type certification process. It is
a document containing important information about operating limitations,
applicable regulations, and other restrictions of particular aircrafts. It includes
general information about design such as dimensions, wing loading, limiting
airspeeds, required placards, markings, control surface travel, engine installations
and approved engine or propeller combinations. It also provides crucial
information about an aircraft’s performance and configuration information,
specific limitations anytime a renewal or re-issuance of the Certificate of
Airworthiness is required. Without the TCDS, the aircraft is not “officially defined”
or doesn’t ensure compliance with the airworthiness requirements.

3. Aircraft specifications are data sheets that contain information on certified

aircraft, engines and power-plants. They are similar to TCDS with in an addition of
equipment list. The updating and revising of the older Aircraft Specifications were
costly due to numerous pages of information in the equipment list. As a result, the
equipment list was removed from the Aircraft Specifications and the TCDS was
introduced for the new, certified aircrafts and equipments. Aircrafts that were
originally certified with the Aircraft Specifications have the option to change to the
TCDS.

4. Supplemental Type Certificate is a design approval issued by the FAA or EASA. It is

an approval used to carry out an aircraft type modification or repair to an existing
type certified aircraft, engine or propeller. It is one of the method for a pproving
the replacement of an original engine with another model, modifying of the
aircraft for particular use, or installation of equipment that are not originally
certified by a specific aircraft. It states how the modification affects the existing
type design, and lists serial number effectively. It also identifies the certification
basis, listing specific regulatory compliance for the design change.
