10 Ethical Issues

1. Once you put it there, it will be there forever

Social media applications have this feature that you can edit or delete but even if
these features exist, it does not fully assure us of its function. Information are transmitted
everywhere in just a click so when you post something then you plan to delete, it might be
already have taken a screenshot by the viewers. There is also an existing data base that
collects all the data or information we post, therefore, deleted posts are just temporarily
unavailable and it will exist forever.
2. Be mindful of copyright and legal issues
We should know how to properly give credits to the rightful owners of the data or
information we are taking and using. Learning how to properly cite sources is one of the
keys to prevent plagiarism, (plagiarism is an act of taking someone else’s work and
pretending it as your own). Using someone else’s work will not make us look smart.
3. Don’t say anything bad about potential clients or employees
Posts in the internet travel so fast in different mediums and everything we post is
connected to our name. We should always think about our reputation specially when we
are in the field of business or corporate. We should act decent in and out of the virtual
world because who knows if people checking our accounts are future clients.
4. Think from the employer’s perspective
Thinking from the employer’s perspective is like we are building a harmonious
relationship within the company. It is like we are building a good relationship in and out
of the social world. We are making a good impression that will last so they will not say
anything about us behind our back.
5. Practice good grammar
Nowadays, people notice our grammar than the content more. People find it
satisfying when they correct someone’s grammar over the internet and then repost it as a
form of entertainment. We cannot stop these people so all we can do is be careful on the
words and grammar we use.
6. Aware of current events and trends
Sharing is common in the social media, so it is right if we react only on the current
issues not on the past happenings. We should be aware on news and events to avoid the
sharing of false statements. Lastly, social media applications are made to update, so being
aware of what is popular and unpopular is a must.
7. Know your company’s/agency’s social media guidelines
There are companies that checks out their employee’s social media accounts also,
they have rules regarding this, furthermore, we should know and follow these guidelines.
These guidelines are set in order to maintain the good reputation of the company because
our name is connected to our work or agency. We need to be extra careful on posting
especially if we work on a big company.
8. Listen to the people (create good relationships
In social media, it is important to create a good relationship with people. Creating
good relationship means being connected with them. The feedbacks that we can get
from these people are essential to have an effective communication.
9. Never lie or use misguiding information
Avoid sharing fake news. Before we repost information, we should make an extra
background checking to prove that it is legit. We should only post things that are genuinely
because information travels so fast in the internet.
10. Don’t be stupid
Overall, let us not be stupid on the virtual world. We should be extra wiser because
we do not know who are watching us or watching our actions. We must be mindful on the
information we are sharing and reposting. Virtual society is such a scare place, moreover,
think before we click.
