3. DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM
Generally speaking, the function of the UPS system is to protect the power apparatus supplied by it. Such
protection, in particular, regards any mains power breaks (micro-interruptions or blackouts) and electrical
disturbances (overvoltages, brown outs, spikes, variations in frequency and line conducted disturbances).
The system also ensures power continuity for the time required by the application for which it is intended, e.g.,
 data saving and proper closing of computer software applications,
 the continuity of operation of control systems in industrial processes,
 the constant supply of emergency lighting, etc.

The ARCHIMOD HE is a UPS system which, besides the above-mentioned general features, offers the
advantages of modular architecture such as redundancy, expandability and adaptability, together with cutting-
edge technological performance.

4. GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

4.1. Operating principle (Dual Conversion On-line)

The type of operation of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS is dual-conversion on-line (class VFI-SS-111 in compliance
with the EN62040-3 standard): the output voltage is obtained from the input voltage by means of two cascade
conversion stages. The first stage (PFC) converts the voltage from AC to DC, while the second (INVERTER),
powered by the direct current, electronically reconstructs the alternating current sinusoidal at output. The dual
conversion permits completely eliminating power mains disturbances and failings, making the output voltage
and frequency independent from those of input. The direct current, which powers the second “inverter” stage,
can also be obtained from the batteries by means of a circuit called “booster”. This way, the inverter is always
powered, even when the supply mains are not operating. The two conversion stages can be cut out by means of
the automatic or manual static bypass device. For example, in case of overloads or failings, the bypass always
ensures power supply by immediately connecting the load to the mains.

4.2. Modularity
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS has a modular structure consisting of electronic power modules which are identical,
interchangeable and parallelable with each other. The modules have the same functions and the loads are
equally split up. None of the modules operates in stand-by – i.e., waiting to operate in case of an identical
module failure – but altogether they help supply the power required by the load. Each power module features
control and autodiagnosis circuits which make it easier to identify the module failure: Any failure or anomaly is
signalled by means of a multi-colour LED on the front of each single module.
The modules are single-phase and to obtain the three-phase configurations therefore, the modules have to be
installed in multiples of three. The power modules are connected in the cabinet in parallel in columns and each
column relates to a phase.
The batteries are also contained in identical and interchangeable modules (“drawers”) connected in series and
parallel so as to obtain the required operating voltage and autonomy. Both the power modules and the battery
modules feature convenient connectors for easy and safe connection and disconnection, without the need for
special wiring operations.

4.3. Decentralized control logic
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS is managed by between one and three main independent microprocessors, except for
the 80kVA/80kW model, which has four control microprocessors. The control microprocessors operate in
decentralized control logic. Each microprocessor has its own liquid-crystal display and control panel for
displaying high-luminosity signals, measurements, alarms and operating modes.
Each main microprocessor dialogues instant by instant with the microprocessors on each power module.

4.4. N+X redundancy ( power, control, communication)

Power redundancy
ARCHIMOD HE can be configured as an N+X power redundant system, inside the same cabinet, exploiting the
modular architecture with load sharing (as shown in paragraph 4.5). By adding one or more modules to those
necessary for the load, service continuity is ensured even in the event of one of them breaking down. System
redundancy is used for configurations with single-phase input and single-phase output or with three-phase input
and single-phase output; phase redundancy on the other hand is used for all configurations with three-phase
output and N+X redundancy obtained on the single phase. In case of a failure affecting one or more power
modules, the power provided by those still in operation is the following:

(n  x)
Pout  Pnom
n for single-phase service

(n  3 x)
Pout  Pnom
n for three-phase service

where

 Pnom is the rated Power provided by the UPS

 Pout is the Power provided by the UPS with module failure,
 n is the number of power modules installed in the UPS,
 x is the number of power modules out of order,
E.g., system redundancy

11
Power redundancy in
Single-Phase Output
configuration

Power redundancy in a
phase of Three-Phase
Output configuration

Control redundancy
ARCHIMOD HE permits having up to three control logics (4 in the 80kW model, ) which operate independently.
In the redundant configurations, a control logic failure does not stop the UPS. The Load continues to be
protected by the power modules controlled by the control boards still operating.

Control redundancy

Communication redundancy
ARCHIMOD HE permits having up to three connection slots for network cards and other communication
accessories. This way, up to three mains connections can be made so that, even in the case of a communication
failure or breakdown with one card, remote control and monitoring is ensured by the other communication cards.

12
4.5. Expandability
The modular architecture of the UPS permits expanding power and autonomy by adding one or more power
modules and/or battery “drawers”. This system perceives the new modules and automatically adapts to the new
configuration, without setting, default modification or dedicated instruments being needed. The expandability
inside the cabinet must be taken into account when sizing the UPS.

13
4.6. Versatility
Three independent output lines
The versatility of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS permits changing the settings on the phases at any time and in a very
simple way, by means of the power connection terminal board (distribution).
For all the models of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS series, three independent single-phase lines can be set, including
of different power.

Example of load on three independent output lines

Independence from load imbalance and input supply

The architecture based on single-phase modules enables the ARCHIMOD HE UPS to be fully independent from
all downstream load imbalance. Furthermore, in independent three-phase configuration, in the case of black out
of just one input phase, only the modules relating to that phase will be battery operated, while the other modules
will continue to absorb energy from the other phases.

A totally unbalanced load does not affect In case of the lack of one input phase, only
normal UPS operation the modules relating to that phase are
battery operated

14
Three-phase or Single-Phase Input (up to 40kVA/40kW)

The ARCHIMOD HE UPS, up to the 40kVA model, has self-configurating input on phases and can therefore be
powered with either three-phase or single-phase line, without any software setting or hardware change. To make
installation easier, it is supplied complete with jumper which allows the direct connection of a single phase lead
in case of single-phase input to the input terminal board.

4.7. High power factor at input

The ARCHIMOD HE has a high power factor value at input, including with low load percentages (close to 1
already at 20% of the applied load). This characteristic gives the UPS excellent performance with
consequent management cost cutting.

 Lower cost of absorbed energy because the high power factor involves a reduced absorption of the
mains reactive power.
 No costs deriving from any oversizing, thanks to greater availability of active power on supply
systems.
 Less voltage drops with positive consequences on operation of user points.
 Drop in energy leaks in leads due to lower circulating current intensity, active power being equal.

4.8. High efficiency
Thanks to the absence of any transformer and to high-frequency conversion technology, the ARCHIMOD HE
UPS has very high dual conversion efficiency (up to 96% in ideal operating conditions) which remain more or
less constant up to low load values. The ARCHIMOD HE can therefore operate with excellent levels of energy
performance even in redundant configurations, in which the power modules work at load percentages below
50%. The cost of absorbed energy is therefore consequently reduced, as are temperature conditioning costs.
The high efficiency also helps reduce early ageing of the electronic components and batteries and extends the
life of the system.

4.9.THDi 3%
Thanks to the innovative input stage based on the PFC (Power Factor Correction) system, the energy absorbed
by the UPS is electronically controlled so the input current is, as far as possible, of sinusoidal shape. In other
words, the input stage works actively to reduce the harmonic content of the current to the utmost (THDì 3%).
This permits optimizing energy absorption, eliminating harmonic disturbances towards the power mains and
permits obtaining a considerable saving inasmuch as additional filters or other devices to be connected to the
UPS input are not necessary.

4.1.High Reliability
Thanks to its modular architecture, the ARCHIMOD HE UPS provides a high degree of reliability.
The entire system is managed by a powerful microprocessor that controls the individual microprocessors
distributed in the power modules.
Each power module has its own automatic bypass circuit, which provides the UPS with a high degree of
internal selectivity. For example, in the case of output configuration with three independent single-phase lines,
the system permits switching to the bypass line only the line in overload and not the entire load powered by
the UPS. ARCHIMOD HE features a general automatic bypass that switches all the output load directly onto
the input network and a further manually-operated bypass which, even in the case of a failure, permits
maintenance operations without disconnecting the user points.

4.2. Easy installation and servicing (Hot Plug & very reduced MTTR)
The modular architecture and the engagement of “plug and play” power modules and batteries make installation
and configuration of the ARCHIMOD HE easy and fast. Once all the power and battery modules have been
extracted, the ARCHIMOD HE can be easily moved without the need for fork-lift trucks or dedicated
mechanisms, thanks also to the two wheels on the rear of the cabinet. The same goes for servicing, which is
restricted to the control/replacement of the modules.
The ease and speed of system restart (low MTTR) permits having high levels of availability. In particular, in the
case of redundant configurations, by exploiting the hot swap function, including in the case of a failure and
servicing, the load is always protected and powered.

19
5. DESCRIPTION OF MODULES

This section describes the main functional blocks of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS .

Power Module

Battery Drawer
5.1. Power Module
The power modules are 6.700VA. Each power module contains the complete electronics of a single-phase UPS,
including:

• Command and control logic (managed from microprocessor)

. • Rectifier/PFC
. • Inverter
. • Booster
. • Battery Charger
. • Automatic bypass
. • Ventilation system
.
The Power Module is of the Plug & Play type, and therefore easy to connect and replace.
Each module is connected in parallel with other identical modules until the total power of the UPS is achieved.
The power modules are independent the one from the other and also operate in the event of one of them being
faulty.
On the front of the module is a multi-colour LED, for the speedy identification of the operating state.

20
5.1.1. Control logics
Each module is controlled by a microprocessor which, by means of cutting-edge measurement circuits, controls
all the operating parameters. The logic memory of each module records the historic data and events, thus
permitting detailed diagnostics.

5.1.2. Rectifier/PFC
The rectifier consists of a control and adjustment circuit (Power Factor Control) which, besides the functions of a
normal rectifier, also has others:

• automatic correction of the load power factor to return it to a value >0.99 already with a load value at
output equal to 20% of nominal load;
• powering of inverter without requiring energy from the batteries, including when the mains voltage is
very low;
• total harmonic distortion of input current THD 3% at norminal load;
Iin

5.1.3. Inverter
The inverter is based on IGBT technology and high-frequency PWM switching control.
Its function is to convert the direct current produced by the rectifier/PFC or by the booster, in case of a
mains power break, into alternating current.
The INVERTER stage also contains control and adjustment circuits, which permit:

• stopping and protecting the inverter in case of too much unsustainable overload so as to protect the
safety of the UPS
• ensuring a total harmonic distortion of the output voltage, both with mains and battery operation, of
less than 1% (THDVout < 1%)
• stopping and protecting the inverter in case of overtemperature of power devices
• managing fan speed according to temperature and applied load.

21
5.1.4. Booster
The task of the “booster” is to raise the battery voltage from 252 Vdc to the supply voltage required by the
inverter. The “booster” powers two “buses”, one positive and the other negative, referring to the bushing-type
neutral. From the first bus, the inverter obtains the positive semiwave of the output voltage and from the second
bus, the negative semiwave. Moreover, the booster features protection and control circuits that safeguard its
operation.

5.1.5. Battery charger

The battery charger is controlled by the control logic so as to supply voltage and current according to the real
state of the batteries. Recharging is done following an innovative “Smart Charge” method, consisting of a first
“Boost Charge” phase which quickly takes the batteries to a high charge level and of a second servicing phase,
at the end of which the battery charger switches off, leaving the batteries idle. After a preset time of 15 days, the
UPS automatically performs a battery “equalization” operation in order to recover natural charge loss and always
keep the batteries balanced and ready to supply the power required in case of a mains break. During
equalization, the UPS operates normally and continues to protect the load from any disturbances or blackouts.
During all battery use situations, the control logic records and updates the charge and run down characteristics
in memory to dynamically evaluate the autonomy and recharge times on the real battery state. The “Smart
Charge” method optimizes the use of the batteries and keeps them systematically monitored, thus extending
their life span with a big servicing cost saving. Battery recharge is also possible when the UPS system is off
(function selected from display screen). What is more, the “boost” phase in which 90% recharge is achieved, is
independent of the temperature, and the “smart charge” system does not therefore require heat probes, nor the
temperature compensation typical of traditional charging methods in which the batteries are continuously
powered by the battery charger.

5.1.6. Automatic bypass

Each module contains an independent automatic bypass circuit.
The automatic bypass consists of a static switch with zero intervention time and of an electromechanical switch
which ensure the flow of current without energy dissipation. These switches are in parallel and are controlled by
a microcontroller logic circuit.
In case of overload, overtemperature or other fault, the bypass circuit automatically transfers the load onto the
primary mains and, as soon as the situation returns to normal, automatically connects the load to the inverter. In
the cases of the supply mains and the inverter output not being synchronized (e.g., due to main network with
disturbances or voltage and frequency values out of tolerance), the control logic automatically disables the
bypass circuit.

22
5.1.7. Second dedicated Bypass input

The ARCHIMOD HE UP features two inputs, one main one, dedicated to the rectifier power supply and the other
secondary, dedicated to the bypass power supply. This way, an emergency power supply can be used to power
the load, including in case of maintenance on the main supply line. By default the two inputs are connected
together so as to power the bypass with the same line that powers the rectifiers, but by removing a simple
jumper, the two inputs can be separated.

5.2. Control tunnel (Master)

The control Tunnel is where the three power modules are housed. It permits the connection of the the modules
with the input, the output, the batteries and the high-voltage DC Bus. The tunnel also contains the connections
for the control and measurement logic signals. Besides the three power modules, the control tunnel also houses
the control sheet.
The control tunnel can control up to two power tunnels (slaves) and can operate in parallel with at most two
other control tunnels (masters). (3 tunnels in the case of the 80kVA/80kW model)
The control board contains a powerful microprocessor which controls and manages all the parts of the UPS. This
board is positioned inside the ARCHIMOD HE cabinet and performs the following operations:

1. automatic recognition of number of connected modules

2. automatic recognition of max power suppliable at output
3. communication with individual power modules
4. recognition of any failures and relative diagnosis
5. dynamic control of PFC circuits, inverter and booster of all power modules
6. generation of reference sinusoidals for reconstruction of output voltage
7. synchronization of output voltages of all power modules with that of input
8. management of automatic bypass
9. management of batteries and dynamic calculation of autonomy (see relative paragraph)
10. management of measurements coming from individual modules
11. management of user interfaces and external communication ports (see relative paragraph)
12. management of UPS historic events and data

23
The control tunnel occupies six rack units inside the cabinet.

5.3. Power Tunnel (Slave)

Like the control tunnel, the power tunnel can accommodate up to three modules. It allows connecting modules
with the remainder of the machine with the input, output and battery lines, High-voltage DC bus and logic
signals. In the power tunnel, there is no control board and so to operate, it must necessarily be connected to a
control tunnel. The power tunnel occupies six rack units inside the cabinet.

5.4.Batteries
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS uses maintenance-free hermetic type lead batteries (VRLA). The rated power at the
terminals of the battery set is 252Vdc, with negative pole equipotential with the input and output neutral.

5.4.1. Battery management

The ARCHIMOD HE UPS, thanks to cutting-edge measurement and control systems, allows the user to carry
out the following functions on the batteries:
1. Battery test.
2. Check the efficiency and state of the batteries by means of the Battery Calibration function. Battery run
down is done using a special algorithm with control of the run down curve, to monitor the performance and state
of the batteries.
3. Start of “Smart Charge” recharge cycle (see para ??).
4. Set up of max battery operating time

24
5. Setting of autonomy reserve thresholds according to the user’s particular requirements.
1
ARCHIMOD HE protects the batteries from deep run downs automatically regulating the minimum battery
2
voltage threshold according to the connected load.
3
The battery sets have an estimated “average lifespan” of 6 years .

1
prolonged run downs with reduced load
2

3
depending on operating temperature, number of charge/run down cycles, etc.

25
5.4.2. Battery “drawer”
The battery modules (or battery drawers) are of the “plug & play” type, featuring convenient connectors for easy
replacement and servicing. Each drawer contains seven 12 V 9Ah batteries, connected so as to obtain reliable
48V and 36 V voltages (<50 Vdc, in conformity with the CEI-EN 60950 standard on electrical safety), on both the
connectors. The nominal battery voltage is 252V and is obtained from the series of 21 batteries (three drawers),
produced by the internal connections of the UPS.

ARCHIMOD HE BATTERY DRAWER

5.4.3. Battery Drawer Housing

The battery drawers are housed inside the UPS in special slots. The autonomy can be increased with the
addition of more battery “drawers” in multiples of three, or if there is no more space in the UPS cabinet, with
additional battery cabinets.
The battery cabinets are identical in terms of shape and size to that of the UPS. The battery cabinets are
connected in parallel with one another and protect the connections by means of an adequate fuse carrier
isolating switch.
Below are some examples of battery drawer configurations.

26
5.4.4. Non-Modular Battery Cabinet
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS can be connected to non-modular battery cabinets, containing VRLA batteries of
higher capacity (94Ah). This solution, alternative to the Modular solution, is interesting in all those cases in which
long autonomy is required (greater than normal standards).

7. INSTALLATION

7.1. Size and Dimensions

Thanks to the modular architecture and high energy density, ARCHIMOD HE is a compact UPS, with low
volume and weight. It is therefore easy to move about and position.

7.2.Positioning
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS has been designed for indoor installation and, as long as the following environmental
specifications are abided by, does not require any special positioning solutions.

 Storage temperature: -20 ÷ 50°C

 Service temperature 0÷40°C
 Relative maximum non-condensing humidity 80%
 Nominal service altitude 1000m

The use of VRLA Batteries and low noise levels (< 65dBA @ 1m) permit also positioning the UPS in places
where people are normally found. The risk of unauthorized persons interfering with normal UPS operation is

35
prevented by means of the lock and key on the cabinet door and the control panel password.
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS generates only a small amount of heat thanks to its high efficiency so no special
cooling systems are required. Always ensure correct air flow by maintaining a minimum distance between the
cabinets, as shown in the following illustrations.

X=100mm
Y=200mm

Positioning is made easier thanks to the adjustable wheels and feet in the lower part of the cabinet.

7.3. DISTRIBUTION PANEL

The distribution and operating panel is in the lower front part of the cabinet and occupies 7
rack units.

The panel contains:

 Input disconnector switch

 Manual bypass switch 3F (S1)
 Output disconnector switch 3F+N (S2)

36

As shown on the block diagram, the distribution panel permits switching the load to bypass
manually and connecting/disconnecting the input and the output, thus making UPS start up
and servicing operations easier and completely safe.

37
7.4.POWER CONNECTIONS
The connections for the input and output cables are positioned in the lower front part of the cabinet, behind the
distribution panel. The cables must be directly connected to the input and output disconnector switches by
means of eyelet cable terminals of compact size. The battery connections are in the lower rear part of the
cabinet. The cables can enter the cabinet from below, through the window obtained in the lower panel. The
cabling operations are simple and easy and do not require special tools.

The extreme versatility of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS enables the user or the installer to configure, in the case of
the 20kVA and 40kVA models, the input and the output of the UPS, both as single-phase and three-phase. The
configuration of the phases is performed by connecting convenient jumpers between the distribution panel
connectors. The connection procedures are indicated in detail in the Operator’s Manual (the jumpers are
supplied with the UPS).

Furthermore, thanks to the modular architecture of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS, the output can be set as three
independent single-phase lines. At the UPS output there are then three single-phase lines with the following
loads:

for ARCHIMOD HE 20 UPS three single-phase loads, each 6.7 kVA

for ARCHIMOD HE 40 UPS three single-phase loads, each 13,4 kVA
for ARCHIMOD HE 60 UPS three single-phase loads, each 20 kVA
for ARCHIMOD HE 80 UPS three single-phase loads, each 26.7 kVA
for ARCHIMOD HE 100 UPS three single-phase loads, each 33 kVA
for ARCHIMOD HE 120 UPS three single-phase loads, each 40 kVA

39
Connections with single-phase Output
For all the configurations with single-phase output, the jumper (supplied as standard with ARCHIMOD
HE) must be connected in the EC15 connector on the connection board of the power modules, inside
the control tunnels.
The Neutral is bushing type: the output neutral is physically connected to the input neutral. This
results in the UPS not altering the state of the neutral: downstream is the same neutral state
(TN,TT,IT) which exists upstream of the UPS.

8. OPERATING MODES
In this section, the operating modes of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS are described.

8.1. Normal operating condition

In normal conditions, the ARCHIMOD HE UPS operates in dual-conversion on-line mode. The output power is
supplied constantly by the inverter, depending on the connected load. The rectifier/PFC absorbs power from the
mains, reducing current harmonic distortion to the utmost and maintaining the Power Factor very high (>0.99).
The battery charger automatically performs the “smart charge” cycle according to the actual state of charge of
the batteries. The control logics controls all the parameters and the physical operating quantities. The power
voltage generated by the inverter is synchronized with the input voltage to ensure, if need be, correct bypass
operation.

8.2. No-mains battery start (Cold Start)

The ARCHIMOD HE UPS permits enabling the battery start function from the display screen in case of a power
break at input (Cold Start Function). When power is restored to the input, the UPS instantly switches to normal
mains operation.

8.3. Bypass start

The ARCHIMOD HE UPS permits enabling the Bypass start function from the Display screen. With this function,
when the UPS is started the load will be connected directly to the input mains. The load will only be connected to
the inverter output once the start phase has terminated.

8.4. Inverter stop

In case of an inverter stop (due to overload, fault or other cause), the load is immediately transferred onto the
primary mains by means of the automatic bypass.

8.5. Overload
In case of temporary overload, the ARCHIMOD HE UPS continues to operate on the inverter limiting the current
without using the automatic bypass. In case of an overload extended over time or which exceeds the max
threshold set by the control logics, the load is instantly transferred to the primary mains by means of the
automatic bypass. Once the overload situation is over, the load is automatically switched onto the inverter.

8.6. Bypass operation sensitivity adjustment

The sensitivity of the UPS to overloads can be adjusted by the user so as to optimize the use of the bypass
according to the type of load (e.g., loads with fast and frequent peaks or loads very sensitive to voltage dips).
The adjustment can be made directly from the control panel or from remote, via software.

50
8.7. Power Module failing in redundant N+X configurations
In the ARCHIMOD HE UPS, the max available power is given by the sum of the powers of the operating
modules.
In the redundant N+X configuration, to supply the load only N modules are enough; the exceeding X modules
are redundant and enable the ARCHIMOD HE UPS to provide power to the load even in the case of failings.
The failings are recorded by the control logics which sends acoustic and visual alarm signals and descriptive
messages on the display screen and remote signals by means of the signal interfaces. On each power module
there’s a visual signal with multicolour LED which permits immediately identifying the failed module.
The failings, like all other important events, are recorded both in the memory of the module involved and in the
general memory of the UPS, ensuring fast and simple diagnostics.

8.8. “Hot Swap/Hot plug” replacement of power modules

In the redundant configurations with two or three control tunnels, the ARCHIMOD HE UPS permits the hot
swap/hot plug function, meaning the possibility of removing, replacing or adding one or more modules without
having to switch load to bypass and switch off the UPS.
The hot swap/hot plug is obtained by simply switching off the control tunnel hosting the module to be replaced
from the display screen. During this operation, the other tunnels with the relative power modules continue
independently to supply and protect the load. This way, servicing, power upgrade and module replacement
operations can be performed in total safety without affecting the load.

8.9. Battery Operation

In the absence of the primary mains or with primary mains outside acceptable tolerances, the UPS instantly
takes power from the batteries, ensuring continuity of supply to the load. In this operating mode, the user is
informed by visual and acoustic signals. The control logics is able to accurately calculate the available autonomy
according to the applied load thanks to a cutting-edge diagnostic-predictive alogorithm. All the information
relating to autonomy and the load status of the batteries is shown on the display screen.

8.10. Reactivation of primary supply mains

Once the primary mains returns within acceptable limits, the ARCHIMOD HE UPS automatically starts operating
again in normal service conditions, taking power from the mains with automatic charge restart.

8.11. Servicing bypass

The ARCHIMOD HE UPS features a manual bypass that prevents load switch-off during servicing operations.
The bypass servicing switch is located on the distribution and operating panel, protected by a special door
complete with lock. During servicing, the input, output and battery disconnector switches ( also located on the
distribution panel) permit disconnecting the UPS from power sources thus enabling the technician to safely

51
access the UPS.

8.12. Non-synchronized Output (free run)

The output frequency of the ARCHIMOD HE UPS is synchronized with the input frequency of the primary mains.
Such synchronization is ensured by the microprocessor control within a preset interval of ±2% of nominal
frequency (50Hz or 60Hz). Outside such interval, the UPS abandons synchronization with input frequency and
ensures a stringently constant ±1% (free run) output frequency.
This non-synchonized output frequency can also be set manually by the user but, in this particular condition, the
automatic bypass is disabled by the control logics.

8.13. Generator Power Supply

Generators can produce AC voltages with frequency tolerances above ±2%. By means of the control panel, the
synchronization frequency interval can be set between ±1% and ±14% with 1% steps. This way, it is possible to
guarantee any switch to bypass within the best tolerances for the supplied load. During operation in
synchronism, the automatic bypass can be enabled.

8.14. Frequency converter

The ARCHIMOD HE UPS can also operate as a frequency converter, i.e., with input frequency different from
output frequency:

. • 50 Hz input – 60 Hz output
. • 60 Hz input – 50 Hz output

In these conditions, the bypass is of course automatically disabled.

8.15. Smart Eco Mode

The ARCHIMOD HE UPS can be configured to operate in Eco Mode. In this condition, the UPS connects the
load to the primary means via the bypass. This way, the power circuits (rectifier/PFC and inverter) are inactive,
with consequent energy saving. In case of a power break at input, the UPS immediately switches the load onto
the inverter supplied by the batteries.
Unlike the classic Off-Line operation, the UPS continuously controls the mains at input so that in the event of
values outside acceptable tolerances, the load is immediately switched onto the inverter. Once mains values at
input return within acceptable tolerances, the UPS automatically returns to bypass.

52
8.16. Operation as emergency power supply (EPS)
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS permits enabling the Emergency Power Supply mode from the Display screen (EPS
mode). This UPS mode only supplies power at output in case of input mains break. In case of mains power
supply at input only the inverter output is deactivated while all the other UPS functions (battery charge,
diagnostics, measurements, etc.) remain on.

53
9. Control panel and communication interfaces
The ARCHIMOD HE UPS features a control panel consisting of:
1. Liquid-crystal alphanumeric display screen, backlit, with 20 characters arranged on 4 lines
2. ESC key for exiting Functions/muting acoustic indicator
3. Preceding scroll key/increases value
4. Subsequent scroll key/reduces value
5. Enter key/Functions acceptance/menu access
6. On/off key

11. SERVICING

THE ARCHIMOD HE UPS does not contain parts requiring special preventive and periodical servicing
operations. For best and long-lasting product operation and to safely protect the load, proceed as follows:

 Check the batteries at least once every six months, after the first year of installation, performing the
“Battery Test” from the Display screen and, if necessary, “Battery Calibration”.
 Periodically check the “Events”,” Alarms” and “Historic Data” memories of the UPS
 Visually check the correct operation of both fans in the power modules.
 Check the correct operation of the Static Bypass
 Check correct switch to Battery
 Check the integrity of the electric system upstream of the UPS
 Check for any connected-load faults
 Keep the UPS and place of installation clean
