Facilitating Learner-Centered Learning

Philosophy of Teaching

Ever since I would always salute the profession of being a teacher. It’s a noble profession
that touches every student’s heart and mind. A good teacher has a powerful faith, they were like
caretakers of seedlings, and that seedlings are the learners. It’s like you’re planting a tree in which
you make sure it’s placed well. You water it every day through knowledge and hope it will grow
and shape tomorrow.
I believe that every child/person is unique and must have a vitalize learning environment
where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. A place where they won’t
feel pressure or stress and will give them excitement every day to go to school. I want to change
the perspective of students on how they think of going to school. I’ll make it a haven instead of a
living hell.
I can say that there are some teachers who are inconsiderate, I accepted that in a good and
also in a bad way. A teacher should consider valid reasons but they should also have
conditions/limits or else their kindness will be abuse, it’s good in a way that they teach their
students how to be accountable of their actions and in that way they will learn and won’t do the
same thing again. I have teachers like that before and we as students would always think he/she
was stone-hearted for being so inconsiderate. If it happens in my case I would let my students
understand the situation instead of ignoring it, and will consider it this time but never again next
time.
I want to become a teacher who knows and understands students on how they develop and
also learn at the same time. Most of the students generate their own knowledge based on past
experiences and prior learning. I’m aware that students do not learn in the same way. It’s a
teacher’s responsibility to be an effective diagnostician of students’ capabilities and prior
knowledge. Then I must make a plan what type of strategy I would use for them to be challenge
to think and grow.
I started applying what I’ve mentioned above with my siblings, I teach them with extended
patience whenever they have assignments and I tried making different kind of ways for them to
learn and which they are comfortable with. I am also one-call-away if someone from our
neighborhood needs help how to do things they don’t know or check their works as samples of
their child’s homework and from that they will know how to teach and practice their children with
it. In that way, I am more approachable which is a good character to develop as an aspiring educator
someday.
Therefore, teaching is not just a profession it’s a passion to make the future the best possible
place for everyone to live.
