Vocabulary Question

(-getting the answer in the right form)

1. The meaning must be the contextual meaning, rather than the usual dictionary meaning.

For example: The hero died a beautiful death.

Beautiful here means holy, pious, inspiring, and has nothing to
do with the more common meaning of attractive, splendid.

2. The form of the word given must be the same as that of the given word.

For example: They devoured the flesh and crunched the bones.
It would not be right to give eat or eating as the answer, but ate
since devoured is in the past tense

3. Sometimes, especially with adverbs (words that end in - ly) it is not always possible to replace it
with one word, so two or more words will be needed.
For example: She was bargaining earnestly.
You know the meaning has the idea of determination. You
cannot replace earnestly with a single word determination as
that would not make sense. You can however, replace it with two
words with determination.

For Example: He was unaware of his impending doom.

You cannot think of a single word to replace impending. Yet you
know its meaning so you can replace impending with its
meaning: about to come.
