No to Sogie Bill

Sexual Orientation and Gender identity or Expression Equality Bill

or House Bill 4982 (SOGIE Equality Bill). This bill has been creating a
wide range of issue because of this girl named Gretchen Custodio Diez. A
transwoman who is caught because of using the comfort room of women in
Quezon City.
Upon reading articles regarding the bill, I strongly oppose to it. As far
as I know the bill is about protecting the LGBTQ+ community from
discrimination but I think we do not need the bill. Discrimination is not
only experience by one person or a particular group of people. We all
experience it. And there are a lot of existing laws that protects everyone from
discrimination like the “Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 and the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore, people must not focus
on the victim but the act of discrimination itself, regardless of the identity
of the victim. What we need to do is strengthen the current laws in
protecting everyone from discrimination.
Another reason why we do not need the Sogie bill is because Filipinos
love LGBTQ+ Community. There are a lot of people said that the bill may
be used as instrument to violate our freedom of religion. I will not use the
church to defend my side but let me share my experience with this so called
LGBTQ+ Community. I have a lot of friends that are part of the said
community but they are serving in our parish and shows respect to the
Words of God. I have also seen how they are accepted and love in our
ministry.
Opposing the Sogie Bill doesn’t mean hating them because they are
also protected by the laws that everyone receives from the government.
