2. A farmer has two water tanks, one of capacity 200 litres and the other 360 litres. The farmer uses
the same container to fill each of the two tanks in an exact number of times. Find the least
possible number of times it would take to fill both tanks. (3mks)

3. The size of an interior angle of a reqular polygon is 3 ½ times that of its exterior angle. Determine
the sum of the interior angles of this polygon. (4mks)

4. A solid metal pyramid has a square abase of side 3 cm and a mass of 54kg. Find the mass of a
similar pyramid whose base is a square of side 6 cm. (3mks)

13. A Japanese tourist visiting Kenya charged 1,307,000 Yen into Kenya shillings. While in Kenya he
spent Ksh. 560,000 and converted the rest to sterling pounds as he headed back to the U.K.
Calculate the amount he got to the nearest pound if the bank buys and sells currency as shown

17. Mr. Kamau, a salesman is paid a commission of 6% on goods worth over sh. 600,000. In addition
he is paid a monthly salary of sh. 35,000.
(a) Calculate his total earnings in a month when his total sales was sh. 750,000. (3mks)

(b) In the following month, the rate of commission was changed to x% but his monthly salary
remained the same. If Mr. Kamau received a total monthly earning of sh. 100,000 for
selling goods worth the same amount, find the value of x. (3mks)

(c) If the rate of commission in (b) above was reduced in the ration 3:4 and his monthly
increased by 10%, find the percentage change in his total monthly earnings for selling the
same amount of goods. (4mks)

ABCD under a rotation of - 900 about (0,0).

(b) A11B11C11D11 is the image of A1B1C1D1 under a reflection I the line y = -x.

(i) Draw A11B11C11D11 on the same grid. (3mks)

(ii) State the coordinates of the invariant points of A1B1C1D1 under this reflection.

21. A lamp shade is in the form of an open – ended frustum of a cone. Its bottom and top diameters
are 14cm and 7cm respectively. Its height is 10cm.

(a) Find

(i) the height of the cone from which the frustum was cut. (2mks)

(ii) the area of the curved surface of the lamp shade. (5mks)

Use   3.142

(b) The material used for making the lamp shade is sold at sh. 800 per square metre. Find the
cost of ten lampshades if a lampshade is sold at twice the cost of the material. (3mks)

22. The distance between tours X and Y is 320km. A car and a lorry started from X at the same time
and travelled towards Y. The car travelling at an average speed of 20km/h higher than that of the
lorry reached r 48 minutes earlier than the lorry.

(a) If the speed of the lorry is t km / h , find the value of t. (6mks)

(b) If the two vehicles left town X at 8. 15 a.m, determine the time the ca arrived at town Y.

23. Two aeroplanes P and Q leave airport at the same time, P flies on a bearing of 0750 at 800 km/h.
While Q flies on a bearing of 1500 at 1000 km\h.

(a) Using a scale of 1 cm to represent 100km, draw a diagram to show the positions of the
aeroplanes after 45 minutes. (4mks)

(b) Use your scale drawing to determine

(i) the distance between the two aeroplanes after 45 minutes. (2mks)

(ii) The bearing of P from Q. (1mk)

(c) By further construction on the same diagram determine how far Q is to east of P. (3mks)

24. The figure below is a sketch of the curve y  x 2  4 .

(a) Using he trapezoidal rule with six strips estimate the area bounded by the curve, the x-axis
and the lines x = -2 and x = 4. (4mks)

(b) Calculate the area in (a) above by integration. (4mks)

(c) Assuming the area found by integration is exact, calculate the percentage error in using the
trapezoidal rule. (2mks)
