Basically, the rock bottom of these platforms is to communicate and share similar interests with
other people. We find joy in sharing our own opinions, stories and remarkable photos and videos in social
platforms that may either provoke a thought, provide amusement, earn a profit, inform the mass, and
offer a lot more advances. These platforms are promising enough to cater and sustain the interest of
both worlds, from the digital natives to the digital immigrants.
Moreover, advances in media and technology have drawbacks. These pave ways for trolls and
dummy accounts that maimed a lot of people into the downsides of virtual interaction. Social media
users who are not responsible in practicing their rights to media and information contribute in creating
rifts and dispute in the social media. They are sharing violent and abusive photos or videos, provoking
people to become angry, initiating cyberbullying, spreading fake news and black propagandas, and
feeding narcissism.
We often hear the adage that with great power comes great responsibility. This is a universal
truth in all cases, even in our virtual world. We become empowered by the gift of these influential
platforms, but we must always be informed and socially responsible in utilizing these tools. No matter
how far technology must lead us, we should never trade actual interaction for virtual connections.

Have you ever wondered why we experience climate change? Climate change occurs because of human behavior
such as improper disposal of wastes products, using CFC’s merchandise affecting the ultraviolent rays, air pollution
mostly from fuses and smokes, water pollution caused by factories dumped to nearest rivers and streams and many
things related to improper consumption.
It is clear to us that this problem started because of human activities. Innovation, fast changing technology,
power, and money drive us to neglect our Mother Earth. Global climate change has observable effects on the
environment. Glaciers have contracted, ice on rivers and lakes are breaking up rapidly, plants and animals are becoming
extinct and trees are blossoming earlier.
We are all threatened because of these sudden changes. Sometimes we are not prepared on the effects it may
bring to us. Landslides, storms, diseases, and death are the worst effects.
We have to plant drought-resistant trees and shrubs around our home and outdoor, buy food and other products
with reusable or recyclable packaging instead of those which have non-recyclable packaging, replace light bulbs with
compact fluorescent bulbs, recycle home’s waste and buy energy efficient and eco-friendly appliances. We have to do
something to stop or at least lessen this continuous dilemma.
The key is within us. We have to love our Mother Nature, discipline and educate ourselves, think unselfishly,
and start doing things for the common good.

If you experience depression, you should find ways to handle stress and improve your self -esteem.
It is also advisable to take good care of yourself. Get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise regularly. These
will help if you think you’re depressed. If you do nothing about it, it would get worse. The best thing to
do to get rid of depression is to reach out to family and friends when times get hard. But if it still doesn’t
work you may have regular medical checkups and see your provider if you don’t feel right.

Life is a never-ending challenge. All of us may experience a lot of struggles and challenges in life. Challenges
may test us on how far we can be strong and the right time when we will give up. We have different conflicts and
different ways to overcome them. We might be stressed with those problems, but we need to keep in our mind that
struggles are just an instrument to make us stronger; struggles were just giving us lesson to use it for more challenges
that will come to us. We should never give up because the right time will come that we will realize that our problems
are just a piece of cake.
Always remember that we are not alone. There is someone watching over us; the one who can mend everything
in our lives. God is always there to guide us. He will make our lives easy. We should be optimistic at all times; just keep
in mind that we can do anything to overcome and face challenges. So instead of being pessimistic think of something
good to ourselves, enjoy life and live it to the fullest. At the end, it will make us all happy.

Fair skin, pinkish glow, long and slender body, red lips and rosy cheeks… you are hailed most beautiful at your
youth. Have you ever heard of that viral sensation in social media platforms, the #pubertychallenge? A lot of people
would post their photos of their childhood and adolescence with the caption “when puberty hits you.” True enough, we
see striking difference of metamorphosis in our forms, as if the ugly duckling has turned into a beautiful swan.
But did you know, our body undergoes drastic changes during puberty? We do not achieve our finest form
overnight. Puberty could mean nightmare for most teens. At the age of 8 to 15, it is the time of our lives when we go
into a full-on growth spurt, let alone the first year of our existence.
During puberty, we get to experience hair growth in our sensitive body parts. We get to experience greasy skin
and unusual body odor. We get to experience sudden mood swings and range of strong emotional outbursts. It is not
always comfortable to experience undergoing through maturity shifts.
All these during our hormone overdrive, yet in the end, isn’t it thrilling to see how the crazy puberty journey could
turn us into? It’s a beautiful phase when finally, a caterpillar could spread its wings and soar as a splendid butterfly.

I am my father’s daughter. Born from a humble abode of a small town, I was raised out of love and family
warmth. My parents might be earning a meager, but never did I experience having to skip meals in a day. My father is
a loving and responsible man. Ours is a good provider.
I would always remember Tatay returning home from several days of sailing ashore, exhausted from fishing.
When the catch is good, I could always ask Tatay for a treat or anything I can help myself with. I love my father dearly.
I could always imagine how his smile would reach his eye from ear to ear whenever he is happy.
One night we were having a good supper, I asked for Tatay’s approval on letting me join for a school activity. I
dream of them watching me on stage singing my heart out. Tatay promised he would be there upon returning from
fishing.
The days went well until my school event. I was really excited to perform because I wanted to make Tatay so
proud of me. The time flew fast… I waited, and waited, and waited until there was no more. I didn’t sing. I was so upset
that my family didn’t show up. It was disheartening and devastating. I cried.
I went home so upset, only to find out my father lying cold and lifeless on his bed, my mother sobbing hardly.
Tears went streaming down my face upon seeing him wearing his favorite polo. I knew he would come to see me
perform. I just knew he would, and he wanted to, but fate won’t allow it.
It was all too sudden, all too painful to embrace. My world has collapsed. I cannot seem to take that Tatay had
to go. Tatay had left us this early due to heart attack.
Some more years had passed, I would sit by the shore singing my heart out. I sing for Tatay; I know he is out there.
Through the wind my song travels and the waves carry them adrift, “nasa laot ang Tatay kaya wala sa bahay…”

Love is something magical. It will make you want to do sorts of irrationally amazing and stupid things. At times,
you would feel the urge to risk everything you have. It makes you want to stay because you have learned to love a person
that much.
But leaving for a greater cause is a deep form of love. It makes you immensely vulnerable to the pain and hurt
you could almost feel like dying as your soul might have left your body alive. For love comes with sacrifices.
Somehow, us leaving the person we love, though it felt like unendurable without their intoxicating proximity,
is the best thing left to do because you wouldn’t want them to be burdened knowing it could only be harder if we’d stay.
It’s when you were already set in staying to fight for love’s glory, but knowing that things will only get worse, your
fears are brought back, creeping alongside everything that made us want to leave in the first place. Love is sick. You
don’t always get a hold of fighting for it. Love may mean otherwise – being brave and letting go.
But in any case, what matters most is that we loved. We loved a love so true. We loved with a love that is worth
more than we thought we could ever love. We love with a love that we never thought was humanly possible, that even
across the ocean or at farther lengths, we will always keep that person. They will always have a place in our hearts that
no one could occupy. They would forever be carved in the deepest parts of being.
I only have a month left to spare in this world. And so, to you my love. I love you, but this is goodbye…

“We have met the enemy, and he is us” – these are powerful words we may live by from a comic strip character
pogo, a loveable possum illustrated by Walt Kelly. I’m a big believer that our worst enemy is only but ourselves.
So often in life, we tend to set our eyes upon the things which we think could glorify us in the face of the many.
We long for fame, power, wealth and influence only to realize at the end of the road that we have set our sights too far
and miss out on what genuinely makes us complete. A child sitting somewhere for instance may wonder when he sees
a plane and wish of becoming a pilot, while the captain on board sighs as he sees houses downtown and dreamt of
returning home.
Our worst enemy is our own good self. What really defines us is the way we view ourselves and the principles
we live by. It is never healthy to be comparing ourselves to others. Come to think of it, if authority ensures security, then
people of high profile may walk freely and unguarded; but only those who love simply sleeps soundly at night. If wealth
is the secret to fulfillment, then the rich should be happiest; but even the poorest of us can genuinely be happy without
a lot.
So plant your own gardens and decorate your souls, as the light and spirit we bring with us comes from our inner
self. Walk life gently and never lose sight of the real you.

Searching. Experimenting. Failed a hundred times, yet still trying. Seeking. Hoping. In this globally competitive
world, do Filipinos stand a chance to be heard?
Filipinos have rare talents, indeed. One of those were Daniel Dingle, a Filipino engineer who claimed to have
invented a “hydrogen reactor” able to power a water fueled-car. He began working on his hydrogen reactor in 1969, and
claimed to have used the device to power his 1996 Toyota Corolla. Daniel explained that his invention splits producing
hydrogen from water in an onboard water tank and does not produce any carbon emissions.
Daniel Dingle introduced his inventions, however, did not reveal the secrets on how it works on to power his
car. Like any other scientists, he failed many times, yet tried a hundred times just to succeed in his inventions. He reached
out for government officials and scientist to finance his invention. Luckily, a man named John Ding Young of Formosa
Plastic Groups (FPG) sought Daniel Dingle out and signed a “preliminary understanding” with him for several projects
and aimed to get an “International Patent” to commercialize his technology.
That was a big break for a rare Filipino talent like Dingle. Though he died early, his invention proved that Filipino
stand a chance to be heard.

Angel’s Eyes
Luzviminda P. Ware
Oh, what a lovely morning! The sky is blue, and the sun’s rays are reflected in the dew drops on every green
leaf. I have often dreamed of mornings like this. And every time I dreamed about it, I can’t wait to wake up and dance
in the green grass still wet with dew. I want to feel the cold soil pressing against my bare feet and feel the warmth breath
of the damp wind upon my face. This morning is just like all mornings I have dreamed about!
I can’t wait to describe how perfect this morning is to Teacher Tin. She has been a very patient listener to all
my dreams and stories. I believe I could never find anyone else like her. She has a very beautiful face. Her round, brown
eyes seem to look through my being every time she looks at me in the eyes. And she stares at me, she makes me feel
like I’m as beautiful as she is. Oh, and her nose! She has the most well-sculptured nose I have ever seen. And her lips
look soft with a touch of pink on it. I hope she doesn’t care see me looking at her lips. Whenever she speaks, it would
really embarrass me! When I grow up, I want to dress up and speak like her. I hope she wouldn’t mind.
Oh, there is she now! She’s walking slowly in the corridor and her shoulder-length hair is gently blown by the
wind. She’s carrying her big red suitcase that must be very heavy because it contains lots of books. And I know that the
book she gave me is the biggest and the heaviest among the books in her suitcase. I can hear her footsteps now. Maybe
that’s Teacher Tin coming up the stairs.
And indeed, Teacher’s Tin’s arrival broke Angel’s pleasant thoughts. “Hello Angel! It’s always nice to see you,”
Teacher Tin greeted Angel. “Oh, Teacher Tin, you look good in the peach floral dress you’re wearing,” Angel greeted
back. “How did you know that I’m wearing a peach floral dress?” Teacher Tin asked. “I just though a peach floral dress
will look very beautiful plus I saw you walking in the corridor,” Agatha smiled broadly.
“Oh, that’s why,” Teacher Tin smiled and sat next Angel. “Now are you ready for our reading lesson?” “Yes.
But first I want to tell you how wonderful this morning is,” Angel said. “Okay,” Teacher Tin smiled and Angel told her
about the radiant rays of the sun that stretched up high to the blue sky, the dew drops glistening on the green leaves, and
so on.
“Yes, Teacher Tin,” Angel answered excitedly. Teacher Tin lifted a big book from all of the other books in her
large book in her suitcase. This book is not an ordinary book because instead of letters, the book contains dot. Teacher
Tin took the book on the table and guide Angel’s fingers on the first row of dots and read aloud. “Shakespeare’s Romeo
and Juliet. Oh, Teacher Tin, I have long wanted to read this book. Thank you very much!” Angel exclaimed. “You’re
welcome Angel. I am sure that you’re going to enjoy this book,” Teacher Tin said. As Angel continued to feel and “read”
the dots in the book, Teacher Tin listens intently while gently arranging the frills of her red skirt.
