 What a beautiful
statue!!

Very shiny with

all that gold!
Splendorous!

Its sapphires and

ruby are really
gorgeous!

In the north of Europe, there is a big town with a

statue in the square. It has got gold and gemstones.
It is the Happy Prince.
 Where can I
stop? I am
exhausted!

One day, a Swallow passes by.

It is late and the little bird looks for a place to rest.
 This is a very
comfortable
place…

The Swallow falls asleep at the statue’s feet.

It is very tired.
 Why am I sad? I am the
Happy Prince. I am
confused.

The statue is the Happy Prince.

But now he is very sad. He cries.
 “In my castle, everything was fantastic. I had no
problems. I had servants. I had everything”, says the
Prince.
 I am a very
happy person!

In the past, the Prince was very happy.

He had a good family, good clothes, food and
everything.
 I see my people
are sad.

I am very I am
cold… hungry…

There are many poor people in town. They don’t

have good clothes, food or shoes. That makes me
sad.
 I need your help,
my friend. I can help you today.
Then, I have to
continue my journey.

Oh! Thank you

The Prince needs to help the poor people.

But he can’t move, so he can’t help them.
“There is a poor woman. Her son is very ill and she is
very sad. She has no money for medicine”, says the
Prince.
Take my ruby to
the woman.

The Prince asks the Swallow for help.

It takes the ruby on the sword and gives it to the
woman.
 What can I

The Swallow flies through the window.

The mother is crying, desperate. The boy is in bed,
very ill.

The Swallow leaves the ruby on the table.

The woman is surprised.
Now, she can cure the boy.
The Swallow returns to the statue.
It is time to go.
Winter is near.
 I can’t fly now.
You go first.

The Swallow can’t go.

It tells its friends it has to help the Prince.
The Swallow takes one sapphire of the Prince’s eyes
to a poor man.
He is very hungry.
 This is for you
and your family.

The Swallow leaves the sapphire on the table.

When he wakes up, he is surprised.
 I must fly away.

Oh, no! Don’t go! I

need you do me one
more favor, please… Ok…

The Swallow has to go. Winter is coming.

But the statue needs another favor.
The Swallow takes the other sapphire to a poor girl.
She is barefoot, with torn clothes and very hungry.
 Oh, my god! This is
for me and my
family!

She is very happy and thankful.

She can get food, shoes and clothes for all her
family.
 I have no
gemstones, but I
have all my gold

The statue has all its gold. But it is sad.

What can the Prince do?
There are many poor people in the street.
The Happy Prince decides to help them.
My friend, this will be
the last favor. Then,
you can go.
Take my gold to all the
poor people in the
street. I can’t use it.

One by one, the Swallow takes the pieces of the

statue’s gold.
It gives it to the poor people in the street.
 My Prince, I finished, but I
can’t fly now. Winter is here.

The Swallow cannot go now.

It is winter. It is very cold.
So, it stays at the statue’s feet.
 What a horrible Destroy the
statue! I don’t like statue!!

People and governors don’t like the statue without

gold.
They decided to destroy it.
The metal of the statue is melted…
Only the Happy Prince’s heart is left.
 Heaven is for
good souls…

An angel appears and takes the Happy Prince’s

heart and the Swallow in his arms.
Now, the Happy Prince and the Swallow live
together in heaven.
