BACKGROUND HISTORY OF BARANGAY

DAMAYANG LAGI

In the year 1940 Quezon City was formerly known as CAPITOL CITY and under the
proclamation No. 333 of President Manuel L. Quezon, he got a portion of lot from San
Mateo, San Juan and Caloocan to form it into QUEZON CITY formerly SITIO CUBAO.

For a short history of Barangay Damayang Lagi, it was formerly known as BARRIO
RINCON and at the time of Quezon City Mayor Norberto S. Amoranto, three
prominent persons by the name of Mr. Gatdula, Mr. Villarante and Mr. Balmaceda
requested the City Mayor for them to be appointed as Councilman and Tinyente Del
Barrio to form a new Barangay and it was named Barrio DAMAYANG LAGI to be
separated from Sitio Cubao.

The Barangay Damayang Lagi was created on Executive Order #25 of Quezon City
dated on June 25, 1975 by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos with Mayor Adelina S.
Rodriguez and they called it as DAMAYANG LAGI in the sense of “ALWAYS
HELPING EACH OTHER” because the residents/nearby neighborhood lend a helping
hands at all times.

The Barangay Damayang Lagi has an estimated land area of about 42.38 hectares with
boundaries of E. Rodriguez Sr. Blvd. on the north, Victoria Avenue on the East, San
Juan River on the West and Salapan Creek on the South. The areas composed of Block 1
to 6 E. Rodriguez Sr. Blvd. & La Felonila St., 11th, 12th, 13th , 14th Street, Rolling Hills
Subdivision & Calvary Hills. It has an estimated total population of almost 21,806 as of
2008, total household of 5,833 and registered voters of 9,316 as of October 2007 election.
It has one hospital in the vicinity which is NATIONAL CHILDREN HOSPITAL and one
oldest private school formerly CAPITOL CITY COLLEGE then TRINITY COLL EGE OF
Q.C. and presently TRINITY UNIVERSITY OF ASIA.

The first Tinyente Del Barrio is the late Mr. Melchor Villarante, Seconded by election is
Bgy. Chairman Anslemo A. Marqueda and third through appointment in 1986 by
Mayor Brigido “Jun” Simon, the late Mr. Agapito Gatdula, then elected Bgy. Chairman
Antonio Manalo from 1989 up to 2005 and through succession of 1st Kagawad Josel Clet
from March 2005 to October 2007 and elected as Punong Barangay of Brgy. Damayang
Lagi last October 29, 2007 up to November 30, 2010. Now elected as Punong Barangay
last October 2010 Barangay Election is RENATO “BOY” TANYAG start his term of
office from December 1, 2010 up to the present.

The Sub-City New Manila composed of four (4) barangays namely: Brgy. Damayang
Lagi, Brgy. Mariana, Brgy. Kalusugan, and Brgy. Kristong Hari, all of Area-21, District
IV-QC. The Barangay Hall of Damayang Lagi is located along La Felonila St., cor. E.
Rodriguez Sr.
