RESEARCH MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

Introduction

Unlike fashion clothing, which is essentially a product of the designer’s creative instincts,

the process of designing functional clothing begins and ends with the user specific

requirements. These requirements, whether for performance or for comfort, are

determined by the environment in which the user operates, and the activities that he or

she performs. Clothing, by its nature has a restrictive effect on body movement as well as

on transport of heat and moisture from the body. Clothing can be abrasive, noisy, smelly

or unattractive. Clothing designed specifically for certain functionalities has been shown

to cause heat stress, reduce task efficiency as well as range-of-motion1 of the wearer.

The process of design therefore begins by first establishing the many requirements of the

user. Subsequent processes are based on meeting, to the best possible extent, these user

requirements.

Project Context

The Pulse of the Fashion Industry 2018 report emphasizes that “while all of these efforts

represent progress, the ultimate solution remains still to be found” While recycled,

organic, and other similar fibers are helping the fashion industry move toward a more

sustainable future a new generation of novel bio-based materials may be the ultimate

solution to sustainability proble Bio-based materials have gained increasing prominence

in recent years because they are renewable, biodegradable and recyclable.Conventional

synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon use significantly less water compared to

natural fibers, but their production is energy-intensive and dependent on nonrenewable

petrochemical sources, and they are not biodegradable While conventional materials used

in the fashion industry offer many beneficial properties, they also present sustainability

problems, with heavy environmental costs associated with production, consumption, and

disposal of these materials.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter present the view of foreign and local studies which served as guide and

support in striving towar thi goal revived by the researcher in conducting their research

these assisted the researcher to gain more knowledge and information and to have a

deeper comprehension and wider perspective about the study a synthesis of the reviewed

literature and studies is also included

According to Julia C Duvall, (, 2019)Many medical conditions, including sensory

processing disorder (SPD), employ compression therapy as a form of treatment. SPD

patients often wear weighted or elastic vests to produce compression on the body, which

have been shown to have a calming effect on the wearer. Recent advances in compression

garment technology incorporate active materials to produce dynamic, low bulk

compression garments that can be remotely controlled.

According to Ameya US NIFT, (2019) All the mothers faced the problem while dressing

their children with normal ready-made garments and specially with donning and doffing,

manipulating the fasteners and placket opening. Mothers expressed that the children

could express discomfort with respect of neckline, collar, sleeve type, fitting and so on.

The reason is clear that there is no segment of special garments existing in ready-made

industry that caters to the special clothing needs of cerebral palsy children. On the other

hand, the local tailors were unable to design special garments for these children. Clothing

problems of people belonging to special group may range from simple behavioural

problems to severe problems like toilet training, walking, self-dressing and so on. These

problems may be because of their disability, deformity and sometimes improper clothing,

lack of training and non-availability of suitable clothes. To overcome all these problems a

need was felt to conduct a research aimed at designing suitable and functional garments

for people having one or the other kind of physical handicap. Key words: functional

According to Christopher M Moore,(2010)The paper identifies the defining

characteristics of luxury retailers' flagship stores. It finds that luxury flagship stores

represent a strategic approach to market entry that is employed to support, enhance and

develop distribution activities within a foreign market. The interdependence of flagship

stores and the wholesaling method of distribution is highlighted. The importance of the

flagship store in reinforcing and enhancing the retailer's luxury status and enhancing and

maintaining relationships not only with customers but also with distribution partners and

the fashion media is found to be significant.Flagship stores are a pivotal aspect of any

luxury fashion retailer's internationalisation strategy. For the first time in the literature,

the paper provides insights into their form and function and an understanding of why they

are crucial to the international development of luxury retailers despite their prohibitively

high cost.

According to Barbara Cimatti, (2017)The Fashion market is characterized by the rapidity

with which a product becomes outmoded. Enterprises producing clothes, shoes, bags and

other accessories generate wastes at a fast rhythm, due to the continuous change of

collections. They must store notable quantities of textiles and components not longer

used for production. Furthermore, the percentage of scraps of fabrics, leather and other

materials, is often significant. Recycling can be applied to the Fashion sector in order to

recuperate wastes and create original items, which can be particularly successful in a

market where customers are increasing their sensitivity towards sustainability. We

describe the case of a prestigious Italian brand, manufacturing high luxury leather and

fabric accessories where Eco Design and Recycling have been applied. A Life Cycle

Assessment of a traditional product of the company is also presented to enhance the

significant aspects of sustainability in Fashion.

Local Studies

According to Daniel Hammett(2009)High school student identities in South Africa are

informed by negotiations of global cultural flows, local histories, and social expectations.

Students appropriate and give new meanings to the cultural flows they use to frame their

identities, informed by the local context and by globalisation. Several aspects of these

practices are of interest, notably the way in which American hip-hop interpellates

coloured students in South Africa, drawing them into particular topographies of

globalisation and framing their identity formations and engagement with race. The

identities produced remain contested, malleable and incomplete. Understanding these

identity formations therefore requires the recognition of the interactions and negotiations

of global and local influences.

According to Elaine Stone, Sheryl A Farnan(2018)

For fashion students who want to be both in the now and in the know! The Dynamics of

Fashion, Fifth Edition, has the latest facts and figures, and the most current theories in

fashion development, production, and merchandising giving you the foundation you need

in the industry. It offers hundreds of real-life examples of leading brands and industry

trends, to show you fashion careers and how to apply what you learn. The book also

covers sustainable fashion, wearable technology, social media, and more in detail.

Research Methodology

This chapter present the methods of research, population frame and sampling
scheme, description of the respondets, research instruments, data gathering procedures
and statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

The researchers use descriptive methods of research to formulate the gathered

important data easily. It involves the description, recording, analysis, and interpretation of
the present nature composition or phenomena, this focuses on the proveling conditions on
how people, group of things, behave and in the present and to describe the data
characteristics of what being studied, A descriptive pattern research, interviews used to
collect data porposefolly and have face to face relationship between the interviews and
interviewer, The interview obteins information by questioning the interview we live. The
interviewee response to the series of questions.and recerded by mean of research
questionaire. This methods of research how used to describe the profile of the respondents
in term to their employment ,job opportunity/status,and job placement. It is also to
describe the advantages and challenge of taking TVL strand in senior high school.

Reserch instrument

In the study the researchers used interview methods,a purposeful face to face
relationship between persons;one is called as the interview who ask question to gather
information and interviewer of the respondents who supplies information as the
researcher prepared question as a guide for the interview. The respondents must answer
all the question provided in the survey questionaire.

The respondents were selected based on the availablity of the students that meet a
criteria for being a respondents of the study. The researchers selected respondents from
senior high school Technical Vocational Student of Aplaya National High School.

Population and Sampling

Purposive sampling(also known as judgmental, selective or subjective sampling)

is a type of non-probability sampling technique.Non-probability sampling focuses on
sampling techniques where the units that are investigated are based on the judgement of
the researcher. The respondents of the study were the selected Senior High School
students.

RESEARCH MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

Participant of the Study

The participants of the study include a total number of 30 technical vocational

senior High School students of Aplaya National High School.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data for this research were collected using survey questionnaire. The
questionnaire was composed of questions related on gathering data the advantages and
challenges of taking Technical Vocational Strand in Senior high.

First, a letter of request to conduct a survey from those selected students. Next,
using random sampling, researchers set a total number of respondents to answer the
survey. The reseachers scheduled a date depending on the respondent's availability. Then,
a brief orientation to every respondent was made by the researchers and few instructions
about answering the questionnaires are be given . After the questionnaire were distribued,
the respondents were given sufficient time to answer the questions. The researchers
collected a total of 30 questionnaire from 30 respondents at the survey. After the survey
was conducted the result was tallied and application of suitable statistical treatment was
made

Validation of the Instrument

The questioner intendedfor the Acceptability of localized multi functional

materials for Fashion Accessories was conducted by the researcher and consulted to our
adviser. Some questions were modified and suggestions were considered until the
findings were established

Treatment of Ouantitative Data

Ouantitative method was used in determining the advantage of taking technical

vocational strand in senior high school and its acceptability of localize multi functional
materials for fashion accessories ,as asssed by the student .Ouantitative methods
emphasize objective measurement and the statistical ,mathematical,or numeral analysis I
of data collected through polls ,qouestionaires ,and surveys,or by manipulating pre
existing data using computational techniques .Ouantitative research focuses on gathering
numerical data and generalizing it across groups of people or to explain a particular
APLAYA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

phenomenon .A descriptive study establishes only association between variables; an

experimental study establishes causality

Quantitative research deals in number, logic, and an objective stance.Quantitative

research focuses on numeric and unchanging data and detailed, convergent reasoning
rather than divergent reasoning[I.e.,the generation of a variety of ideas about a research
problem in a spontaneous,free-flowing manner.

Introduction

Fashion was a decade of glamour, fashion and fashion accessories. In this decade
fashion accessories dominated the fashion world. Every outfit was planned to the last
detail. A woman wasn’t considered well dressed unless she accessorized head to toe. One
of the most popular piece considered as an accessory back in the 1950s is the pointed pre-
formed conically stitched bra. The bra was an important piece of accessory back then, as
without it the “sweater girl” look will not be complete.Another unexpected accessory of
the 50s is the spectacle with the enormous wings that can be studded with rhinestones.
More over, girls in the 1950s wore popper beads as an accessory.Back in the 50s, you

never left the house without a hat. Hats added the final touch of glamour. Pillbox was the
most popular hat in the fifties, and it usually had veiling attached. In the mid of this
decade hats were of a bomb like shapes covered with floral petals. Other hat style
included a neat beret. As for men, 1950s men were rarely seen out without a hat sitting
upon their head. The most popular hat for men , was the fedora.Another fashion
accessory of the 1950s were the gloves. Women of the 50s wore gloves everywhere. A
woman seen back in the 50s without gloves was seen as not properly dressed. Gloves in
this decade came in many lengths and a variety of colors and they were made of
cottons.Handbags were designed with attractive patters, designs, clasps and handles.
Many of the bags in this decade were designed for practicality, with a side pockets or
rings attached that could hold a woman’s glove. The material from which the bags were
made from ranged from leather tapestry, embroidery, and suede to straw, Bakelite, and
heavily beaded designs.
