Honorable principle, respected teachers, dear students,

Today I am assigned to speak about value of time

Three things you cannot recover in life: the words after its said; the moment after its
missed; and the Time after its gone.

Hasan Al Basri on of the great imams born during the caliphate of Umar bin Al Khattab
radhiyallahu anhu said a wise saying about time.

“O son of adam, you are nothing but a number of days, whenever each day passes then a
part of you is gone.”

So the lifespan you are supposed to live on this earth is limited. You are not going to live
on this earth forever. Death is a reality and you have to meet it on the day your soul is
assigned to leave this earth. Its wise you spend this time in seeking the pleasure of Allah
and using it productively instead or wasting it and rendering your life useless.

Are you going to choose to make use of your time to worship Allah and do righteous deeds?
Are you going to choose to make use of your time in studying and obtaining good grades in
school. Because once you miss your opportunity to study in school its almost impossible to
go back to school once you are an adult.

There is a popular saying: “Time is money” but it not true. Time is more than money. We
cannot buy the time we lost with money or anything else in this world. Time is a bank
account with only one transaction: You can only withdraw.

The prophet peace be upon him said: Take advantage of five matters before five other
matters: your youth before you become old; your health, before you fall sick; your wealth,
before you become poor; your free time before you become preoccupied, and your life,
before your death.” (Narrated by Ibn Abbas in the Mustadrak of Hakim & Musnad Imam
Ahmad)

The whole idea about his hadeeth is to make us understand the limited nature of our life
and how time is running out very fast. A muslim will not waste his time unnecessarily. He
understand how important time is for his success in this world and the hereafter.

How can we be wasting our valuable time unnecessarily in front of TV, phones, social
media etc. If you have been wasting your time spending hours and hours in games, TV,
internet etc then remember that there is somebody right now at this moment is striving
and fighting hard to reach his dreams and goals. There is somebody right at this moment is
doing righteous action and getting closer to Allah. There is somebody right now who is
striving to make this society better. There is somebody right now who is studying hard and
trying to get good education. There is somebody right now and this moment saving other
people and changing their lives.
You have got only one life, i stress one life and your will never return. The choice and
decision to spend the time given in this world for play and amusement or to spend the time
in pleasing Allah, achieving your dreams and contributing to this society is finally yours.

You have a choice. A serious life decision to make. Are you going to spend the rest of your
life without any aim or ambition spending your time on games, TV and social media? Or are
you going to wake up from your long sleep and see the reality and spend the remaining
days for your life productively to do good deeds, to achieve your dreams and goals of your
life. The choise is yours!

Jazakallah khair!
