MDA Machine/Cell/Plant Works Calendar

1 Overview

1.1 General

Functions of the User Interface:

The user interface of MDA Works Calendar is used for managing all components of a works calendar.
Each works calendar has an unique identification. This Id can be assigned to a machine.

The works calendar provides time models for determining daily working time.
Data for the works calendar is defined in the following order:
1. Shift types and day types
2. Working time model
3. Define calendar and edit
The basic elements of the works calendar are shift types and day types.
The following is defined for each day type in the working time model:
- the number of shifts and
- the shift type of each shift (i.e. definition of working times and break times as well as free shifts)
The calendar defines the days of the year on which a certain day type is valid.
For more information, see “Working Time Model”.

Configurations:
All screen form and function descriptions assume an operation with toolbar.

1.2 Printing Tables / Exporting Data to Excel

When you execute this function a dialog box is first displayed.

There are three ways to print out from the system.

• Hardcopy (screen shot):
A printout is generated containing the exact contents of the current screen form. List entries not
visible in the current screen form will not be visible in the printout either.
• Tabular printout (List printout):
The complete contents of the table currently displayed on the screen form are printed out as a list.
That portion of the list not visible on the screen is also printed out.
• Exporting data to Excel:
The data of most screen forms can be exported to a file: The data is stored as a ”csv” file and can
be written directly to Excel from this format.

2 General Information on Using the Program

2.1 Information on Using the Mouse

All the information on using the right and left mouse buttons refers to the standard mouse settings for
right-handed people that are made in the Windows control panel. If your ”Control panel” settings for the
mouse buttons are for a left-handed person, you should bear this in mind when making the described
inputs.

2.2 The Help System

In the MDA applications, you have a help system available that you can use at any point while working
with the programs. To call the help system, simply press the F1 function key on the top row of the
keyboard.
The help system is context-sensitive, i.e. you are always provided with help that is relevant to the screen
form in which you are currently working. When you press the F1 function key to start the help system, it
always provides an explanation to the screen form where you are located at the time.
Single-clicking terms that are underlined takes you to the desired topic; single-clicking the Back
pushbutton takes you back to the topic that was displayed previously. The ”Back” pushbutton is located
at the top of the window under the menu bar.
On the left side of the back button there is a button called "Show" respectively "Hide". By pressing this
function key you can show or hide the contents of this help document.
Below the helptext there are two buttons. Pressing the left arrow button moves to the previous chapter,
pressing the right arrow button moves to the next chapter.

3.3 Structure of the Works Calendar

The works calendar is made up of four sections:

- Shift types
- Day types
- Working time model
- Calendar with template week

Overview of the Works Calendar Data:

When defining the stations (machines), each station is assigned a Working time model.

Information on the Works Calendar Data:

Each day in the calendar is assigned a day type.
Each station is assigned a working time model.
The following is defined for each day type in the working time model:
- the number of shifts and
- the shift type of each shift (i.e. definition of working and break times as well as free shifts)

By using the assigned values, each calendar day type followed by the valid shift type for this station can
be determined based on the assignment of a working time model to the station.
The shift type specifies when working times and breaks should occur.

Contents of the Table:

• Time period:
Unique number for a time period in a shift.
By modifying this number you can rearrange the sequence of time periods or add additional time
periods.
• Type of Time:
Specifies the type of time of the time period. Possible values are Working time, break, free time et
al. These types of time are relevant for the calculation of OEE distinctive numbers see user guide
Configuration User Interface.
• ‘Start time’ / ‘Finish time’:
Start and finish time of each time period within the shift.

Operator Inputs to Screen Forms:

The screen form can be operated using the screen form fields and the pushbuttons in the toolbar.
The toolbar is directly below the menu bar. Individual pushbuttons are described in detail by a pop-up tool
tip text as soon as the mouse pointer is placed over the pushbutton.

A comment for the type of shift or the planned production quantity can be modified directly in the fields

Saving your Work:

Click the ”Save” button in the toolbar.
Before saving, the system checks input for plausibility errors.
The shift type can only be saved if the input is correct.

Consistency Conditions for Shift Types:

If an error occurs during data entry, you will be warned immediately if possible. Sometimes, however, you
are warned only before saving your work.
• An existing shift type cannot be created twice.
• The numbers for a shift must be assigned in ascending order. The periods are sorted by the period
number, and not by the start or finish time.
• Time periods are inserted by assigning the corresponding period number.
(for example: insert a time period between periods 15 and 20 by assigning the period number 17.)
• The period times must be assigned sequentially, i.e. the finish time for period (n) equals the start
time of the next period (n+1).
• Each time period must be at least one minute long.
• The total length of one shift may not exceed 24 hours.
• The ‘Free time’ time type cannot be combined with other time types within the shift type. This
means no period can be defined as ‘free time’ in a shift in which periods are defined as having only
‘work’ and ‘break’ periods.
• Shift types can only be deleted if they are not being used in a working time model.

Deleting a Shift Type:

Click the ”Delete shift type” button in the toolbar.
Shift types can only be deleted if they are not being used in a working time model.
A dialog box will prompt you to confirm that you want to delete.

3.6 Working Time Model

The following is defined for each day type in the working time model:
- the number of shifts and
- the shift type of each shift

There are three types of working time models that can be entered:
• A standard working time model (variant number 0)
• A variant of the standard working time model (variant number < 0)
Any changes to the standard working time model are saved under a new negative variant number
with its defined starting date. The starting date of this working time model is also the ending date of
the working time model having the next greater variant number.
• A working time model variant is only valid for a limited time (variant number > 0)

A standard working time model is valid for an unlimited period.

A variant working time model having a number > 0 has a limited validity period. When a variant is entered
the ”Start date” and ”Finish date” fields appear below the ”Comment” field.

The screen form for the working time models is displayed by using either the function keys or the mouse
to select a defined working time model in the TreeView.
If no working time model has been defined, the screen form for working time models will be displayed
when you select ”Working time model” in the TreeView.

Contents of the Screen Form:

• Working time model:
Name of working time model (text, max. no. characters)
• Variant:
Variant number (a number between 1 and 999999).

positive number.
When creating a new variant of a standard working time model, a valid number will be automatically
generated. You can't change this number.
The variant number cannot be modified at a later time.
• Comment:
Comment on variant
• Start time:
Day from which the variant is valid

Contents of the Table:

• Day type:
The day types when the working time model is valid are specified in the day type column.
• Shift no.:
Numbering of shifts within a day type
• Shift type:
Shift type of the respective shift

Operator Inputs to Screen Forms:

The screen form can be operated using the screen form fields and the pushbuttons in the toolbar.
The toolbar is directly below the menu bar. The individual pushbuttons are described in detail by a pop-up
tool tip text as soon as the mouse pointer is placed over the pushbutton.

The variant number (only if > 0), the commentary on variants as well as the start and finish time can be
modified in the fields directly above the table.
The variant number 0 cannot be assigned start or finish times because the standard is universally valid.
Variant numbers < 0 can only have the start time defined.
Variant numbers > 0 must have both a start time and finish time defined.
To modify a day type, select the time period in the table and edit the data in the fields below the table.
To create a new time period, select the last (empty) row in the table. The columns shown are a default
setting and can be modified in the fields below the table.
Shifts within one day are numbered automatically. New shifts are added to the end of the day.

Toggling between List Display and Edit Mode.

The ”Show list” button switches to the display mode so you can view the time model with day types, shift
numbers, shift types and shift periods.
The ”Change data” button switches to the edit mode so you can view the day types, shift numbers and
shift types.

Works Calendar MDA

Modifying Working Time Models:

When managing working time models a distinction is made between standard working time models
(variant number <=0) and its variants (variant number > 0).
Standard working time model:
You can't modify standard working time models. There only can be created new ones, or expired ones
can be deleted. If you edit an existing standard working time model, a new standard working time model
will be generated automatically.
On changing a standard working time model you have to enter a start time. When this start time is
reached, the standard working time model takes effect.
Limited validity for variant (variant number > 0):
If a variant of a working time model is modified, then the variant number is not affected. Only the
modifications are transferred. A working time model variant which is currently valid cannot be modified.

Creating a New Working Time Model:

There are several possibilities to create new working time models:
The most common way is to duplicate existing working time models by triggering function "Copy entry". In
the copy mask you specify the type of the new working time model: wether it is a standard variant with
unlimited validity or it is a variant with limited validity. Moreover you specify the start- and, in case of
normal variant, the end time of the variant.
Additional there is one more possibility for each variant type to create a new working time model:
Variant of a standard working time model (number of variant < 0):
Enter a new start date in an existing standard working time model. When you save the data, there will be
automatically created a new variant, copied from the existing standard working time model.
Variant with limited validity (number of variant > 0):
Click the ”Create working time model” button in the toolbar. A blank screen form opens so you can enter
the name of the new working time model. In field "variant" enter the next unassigned positive number.

Saving your Work:

Click the ”Save” button in the toolbar.
If a standard working time model is being saved, then all modifications will cause the variant number to
change. Saving should only be done when you are sure all the data is correct.
Before saving, the system checks input for plausibility errors. The working time model can only be saved if
the input is correct.

Consistency Conditions for Working Time Models:

• A unique name must be assigned to the working time model.
• The shift start and shift finish of shift types must be assigned in such a way that there are no gaps
or overlap, i.e. the shift finish n must equal the next shift start n+1.
• If you create a new variant of a working time model, a new start and finish time must be entered.
This is not required for standard working time models.
• Times not falling within a shift are treated as free time by the works calendar.

Deleting a Working Time Model:

Click the ”Delete working time model” button in the toolbar.
A check is made in order to determine whether the working time model is allowed to be deleted before
you can delete it.

3-12 © Siemens AG 2000-2007 All Rights Reserved

MDA Machine/Cell/Plant Works Calendar

A working time model can only be deleted if it is not currently valid. A standard working time model
(variant number 0) should not be deleted, even if modification causes it to no longer be valid.
A dialog box will prompt you to confirm that you want to delete.

For more information, see “Processing the Working Time Models”.

Works Calendar MDA

3.7 Processing the Working Time Models

The working time models are processed by the works calendar according to a certain pattern.
The variant number of a working time model is the key element.

Standard Working Time Model:

If a standard working time model exists (variant number 0) then it is processed.
If a modified version of a standard working time model exists (variant number < 0), then the working time
model with the lowest variant number for which the start time has been reached is processed.

Working Time Model Variants:

If one or more variants exist for a working time model (variant number > 0), then the variant with the
highest variant number whose start and finish date is valid is processed.

Example:
The following variants for ”Working time model AZM1” exist:

Var.No. Type Validity

0 Standard working time model: up to 31.08.2007
-1 Standard working time model: as from 01.09.2007
1 Variant 1 15.07.2007 - 15.08.2007
2 Variant 2 05.08.2007 - 15.09.2007

Representation of working time model processing

All the following descriptions refer to the above figure.

Period t1 - t2 (up to 15.07.2007): There is no other variant of this time model. The standard time model
numbered 0 is valid.

3-14 © Siemens AG 2000-2007 All Rights Reserved

MDA Machine/Cell/Plant Works Calendar

Period t2 - t3 (15.07.2007 - 05.08.2007): A variant exists for the time model. Variant no. 1 is valid.
Period t3 - t4 (05.08.2007 - 15.08.2007): Although Variant no. 1 is defined up to 15.08.2007, Variant no. 2
of the time model becomes valid starting 05.08.2007 because the higher variant number takes priority.
Period t4 - t5 (15.08.2007 - 01.09.2007): By modifying the standard time model no. 0, starting 01.09.2007
Variant -1 is defined and from this date variant no. 0 is no longer processed. Because Variant no. 2 is still
valid during this period, it is also processed.
Period t5 - t6 (01.09.2007 - 15.09.2007): Variant no. 2 is valid.
Period from t6 (starting on 15.09.2007): The validity period of Variant no. 2 has expired. Starting from this
date the standard time model with the lowest variant number (here it is -1) is valid.
