MDA Machine/Cell/Plant Works Calendar
1 Overview
1.1 General
The user interface of MDA Works Calendar is used for managing all components of a works calendar.
Each works calendar has an unique identification. This Id can be assigned to a machine.
The works calendar provides time models for determining daily working time.
Data for the works calendar is defined in the following order:
1. Shift types and day types
2. Working time model
3. Define calendar and edit
The basic elements of the works calendar are shift types and day types.
The following is defined for each day type in the working time model:
- the number of shifts and
- the shift type of each shift (i.e. definition of working times and break times as well as free shifts)
The calendar defines the days of the year on which a certain day type is valid.
For more information, see “Working Time Model”.
Configurations:
All screen form and function descriptions assume an operation with toolbar.
All the information on using the right and left mouse buttons refers to the standard mouse settings for
right-handed people that are made in the Windows control panel. If your ”Control panel” settings for the
mouse buttons are for a left-handed person, you should bear this in mind when making the described
inputs.
In the MDA applications, you have a help system available that you can use at any point while working
with the programs. To call the help system, simply press the F1 function key on the top row of the
keyboard.
The help system is context-sensitive, i.e. you are always provided with help that is relevant to the screen
form in which you are currently working. When you press the F1 function key to start the help system, it
always provides an explanation to the screen form where you are located at the time.
Single-clicking terms that are underlined takes you to the desired topic; single-clicking the Back
pushbutton takes you back to the topic that was displayed previously. The ”Back” pushbutton is located
at the top of the window under the menu bar.
On the left side of the back button there is a button called "Show" respectively "Hide". By pressing this
function key you can show or hide the contents of this help document.
Below the helptext there are two buttons. Pressing the left arrow button moves to the previous chapter,
pressing the right arrow button moves to the next chapter.
You can start the user interface using Start > Programs > MDA > Works Calendar.
After starting the user interface, the system will display the login screen. When you enter a valid user
name and password, the system will display the screen form defined as the start screen during
configuration.
If you specified at configuration that the system is to start without a login screen, the user name that you
entered at configuration is used and the system immediately displays the main screen.
You can use the menu bar, pushbuttons on the toolbar or select entries of your choice in the TreeView to
work with the works calendar.
The functions that you have available depend on the configured user group.
The menu bar contains global functions. All screen form-specific functions can be selected from the
toolbar.
Structure of the menu:
• File
- Login screen Displays the login screen to log in again
- Transfer data to terminals Transfer works calendar data to workstations
- End Exits from the user interface
• Options
- Language: German/English/... Switches languages
• Help
- Contents Displays the indicated help information
- About Displays the version number of the user interface
When defining the stations (machines), each station is assigned a Working time model.
By using the assigned values, each calendar day type followed by the valid shift type for this station can
be determined based on the assignment of a working time model to the station.
The shift type specifies when working times and breaks should occur.
The screen form for the shift types is displayed by using either the function keys or the mouse to select a
defined shift type in the TreeView.
If no shift types have been defined, the screen form for shift types will be displayed when you select ”Shift
types” in the TreeView.
A comment for the type of shift or the planned production quantity can be modified directly in the fields
above the table.
To modify a time period, select the time period in the table and modify the data in the fields below the
table.
To create a new time period, select the last (empty) row in the table. The columns shown are a default
setting and can be modified in the fields below the table.
The types of day connect the calendar with the working time model.
Each date in the calendar is assigned a day type and in the working time model each day type is defined
according to the shift sequence which is being carried out with this day type.
The screen form for the types of day is displayed by selecting ”Types of day” in the TreeView.
To modify a day type, select it in the table and edit the data in the fields below the list.
To create a new day type, select an empty row in the table. The data can be modified in the fields below
the list.
The following is defined for each day type in the working time model:
- the number of shifts and
- the shift type of each shift
There are three types of working time models that can be entered:
• A standard working time model (variant number 0)
• A variant of the standard working time model (variant number < 0)
Any changes to the standard working time model are saved under a new negative variant number
with its defined starting date. The starting date of this working time model is also the ending date of
the working time model having the next greater variant number.
• A working time model variant is only valid for a limited time (variant number > 0)
The screen form for the working time models is displayed by using either the function keys or the mouse
to select a defined working time model in the TreeView.
If no working time model has been defined, the screen form for working time models will be displayed
when you select ”Working time model” in the TreeView.
positive number.
When creating a new variant of a standard working time model, a valid number will be automatically
generated. You can't change this number.
The variant number cannot be modified at a later time.
• Comment:
Comment on variant
• Start time:
Day from which the variant is valid
The variant number (only if > 0), the commentary on variants as well as the start and finish time can be
modified in the fields directly above the table.
The variant number 0 cannot be assigned start or finish times because the standard is universally valid.
Variant numbers < 0 can only have the start time defined.
Variant numbers > 0 must have both a start time and finish time defined.
To modify a day type, select the time period in the table and edit the data in the fields below the table.
To create a new time period, select the last (empty) row in the table. The columns shown are a default
setting and can be modified in the fields below the table.
Shifts within one day are numbered automatically. New shifts are added to the end of the day.
A working time model can only be deleted if it is not currently valid. A standard working time model
(variant number 0) should not be deleted, even if modification causes it to no longer be valid.
A dialog box will prompt you to confirm that you want to delete.
The working time models are processed by the works calendar according to a certain pattern.
The variant number of a working time model is the key element.
Example:
The following variants for ”Working time model AZM1” exist:
Period t2 - t3 (15.07.2007 - 05.08.2007): A variant exists for the time model. Variant no. 1 is valid.
Period t3 - t4 (05.08.2007 - 15.08.2007): Although Variant no. 1 is defined up to 15.08.2007, Variant no. 2
of the time model becomes valid starting 05.08.2007 because the higher variant number takes priority.
Period t4 - t5 (15.08.2007 - 01.09.2007): By modifying the standard time model no. 0, starting 01.09.2007
Variant -1 is defined and from this date variant no. 0 is no longer processed. Because Variant no. 2 is still
valid during this period, it is also processed.
Period t5 - t6 (01.09.2007 - 15.09.2007): Variant no. 2 is valid.
Period from t6 (starting on 15.09.2007): The validity period of Variant no. 2 has expired. Starting from this
date the standard time model with the lowest variant number (here it is -1) is valid.
The calendar defines the days of the year on which a certain day type is valid.
Each date in the calendar is assigned a day type and in the working time model each day type is defined
according to the shift pattern which corresponds with this day type assigned to it.
When you select the Calendar entry in the TreeView, the screen form is displayed.
The screen form is displayed in the ”Change day types” display mode:
The ”Start time” and ”Finish time” fields allow you to set the displayed time range.
The ”Start time” and ”Finish time” fields allow you to set the displayed time range.
To modify the day type of a date, select the date from the table and edit the day type in the selection box
below the list.
The following calendar day is the displayed default start time. Starting from this date, day types can be
modified.
If you want to check what day types are defined for days in the past or the current day, set the start date
to an earlier date. The day type can not be modified for the days in the past or the current day.
The calendar defines on what days of the year what day type is valid.
Each date in the calendar is assigned a day type and -- in the working time model – each day type is
defined according to the shift pattern which corresponds to this day type assigned to it.
You can toggle between both displays with toolbar buttons "Define new time range with template week"
and "change day type for individual days".
Enter the time range you want to define for the template week using the ”Start time” and ”Finish time”
fields.
To modify the day type of a weekday, select the weekday from the table and edit the day type in the
selection box below the list.
By means of configuration, you can set up the user interface such that it starts without you needing to log
in.
By making the following entries in
General Settings > GUI_WKAL
you can specify whether the system is to display the login screen at start-up or what user to choose by
automatic login:
• LOGIN_ACTIV
0 - No login screen is displayed at start-up
Otherwise - Login screen is displayed at start-up
LOGIN_CLASS
User class that is used if the system starts up without a login screen.
This entry is only used if the parameter "LOGIN_ACTIV = 0" is set.
Even if you started the user interface without a login screen, it is possible to log in under another user
group at any time by selecting "File > Login screen". After doing this, the system uses the settings and
authorizations of this user group.
3.12 About
The "Help > About" menu item displays a window containing the version number of the product.

Beim Verlängern des Werkskalenders wird die Musterwoche als Basis für die neu generierten Tage
herangezogen.
Day Type
Day Types connects working time models and the calendar. In each working time model there is to define
a sequence of shifts for each day type. This sequence of shifts has to cover 24 hours.
Shift Type
A Shift Type defines the sequence of working times and free times for a shift.
Configuration
In MDA, all the settings are stored in a configuration database and you can customize them by means of
the configuration interface.
Hardcopy
A printout of the current contents of the screen. It can be triggered by means of a configurable function
key. Default setting:
SINUMERIK: top function key to the right of the screen. PC: "F12" function key
Main Screen
A screen form from which you can go to all the other screen forms. The main screen does not include any
functions.
Menu Bar
The menu bar at the top of the window provides all the functions of the user interface. The menu bar is
not available on the SINUMERIK.
Message Line
The message line is at the bottom edge of the screen form.
The background color shows the type of message:
Green - Information
Yellow - User error, warnings
Red - System error, serious error. There is usually more information in the system logbook.
Pushbutton
The system displays pushbuttons in the footer of screen forms. You activate pushbuttons using either the
function keys, the mouse or the space bar.
User Group
The user group specifies which screen forms and functions are available to users.
User groups are managed using the configuration interface.
You can change the user group by means of the login screen.
