To meet the needs of Polish and international users, ELEKTROBUDOWA SA has developed and implemented to production
metal-clad medium voltage switchgears type D-12P(L), D-17P(L), D-24P(L) and D-40P.

The catalogue presents two variants of the above

switchgears:
basic design marked P
a design fully fit to be installed in unmanned
power distribution stations, marked PL, and
expanded with:
- motor control of the withdrawable part, to
enable the remote control of moving the part
from the test to connected position and
back,
- remote motor control of closing and
opening the earthing switch, with a
protection device which disables closing the
earthing switch if the circuit being earthed is live.
1. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
Versatility of solutions, optimal dimensions of cubicles,
dependability, safety for operating personnel are the main features
which were considered in constructing switchgear D series of types.
It is the largest and the most popular family of MV switchgears in
Poland.
This catalogue presents only the basic solutions of the
switchgears marked (P) and (PL), without their simplified versions
(PT) or switchgears with double system of busbars up to 12, 17,5
and 36kV, marked (2S).
The solutions presented in the catalogue apply to withdrawable,
indoor, wall-mounted, free-standing, air insulated switchgears with
a single system of busbars, divided into compartments separated by
metal partitions (metal-clad).

1.1. APPLICATION Substation 15kV between similar buildings of town

Type D-12P(L), D-17P(L), D-24P(L) and D-40P switchgears are
designed for installation in electric substations of nominal voltage
from 7.2kV to 40kV in buildings or mobile transformer & distribution
substations manufactured by ELEKTROBUDOWA SA or by others.

1.2. FEATURES
The D-…P switchgears have the following features: cutting edge solutions enabling unmanned operation (PL version),
compact design, wide range of cable or busbar external connections,
compartmental construction (metal-clad), which provides long useful life,
protection from the effects of internal arc fault, routine inspections every 10 years,
comfort of operation, facility of extension,
a system of intelligent interlocks, which eliminates switching professional, easily available manufacturer's service,
errors, environment friendly production and operation.
possibility of manual or remote operation of the withdrawable
part when the door is closed, THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE ACC. TO PN-EN 62271-200:
metal shutters which shield fixed contacts,
high voltage indication in each cubicle, class of resistance to internal arc AFLR
small overall dimensions and wall-mounting help save costs class of barrier type PM
(a free-standing option is also possible), class of compartment accessibility LSC2B

Owing to the above features our switchgears type D-12P(L), D-17P(L), D-24P(L) and D-40P are ideal for applications in greenfield or retrofit
facilities.

1.3. SERVICE CONDITIONS

Type D-17P switchgears are designed for operation in rooms where normal conditions acc. to PN-EN 62271-200
and PN-EN 62271-1 are assured. Special operation conditions are subject to agreement with the manufacturer.

1.4. CONFORMITY TO STANDARDS

Totally Polish design of type D-12P(L), D-17P(L), D-24P(L) and
D-40P switchgear conforms to standards PN-EN 62271-200, PN-
EN 62271-1, ГОСТ 14693-90, ГОСТ 1516.3-96.
The switchgears were type tested and obtained relevant
test certificates.
Designing, manufacturing and installation conform to total
quality management system certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001
and AQAP-2110.

Once the switchgear has been assembled, routine tests

are performed acc. to PN-EN 62271-200

2. CONSTRUCTION OF THE SWITCHGEAR

The switchgear consists of cubicles (functional units, cells) separated by metal partitions. Enclosures are made of sheet steel protected from
corrosion by a coat of Zn, Al-Zn and/or powder paint. Doors of compartments are locked with a special handle equipped with a lock with a latch
key or any other key chosen by a user. The enclosure has the degree of protection IP4X or IP41. Is possible to produce the switchgear enclosure
IP54 after prior consultation with the manufacturer.

2.3. CUBICLES WITH A SWITCH DISCONNECTOR

The cubicles are equipped with switch disconnetors [18] type NAL, NALF, OM or OMB for rated voltages 12 kV, 17.5 kV or 24 kV.
Standard width of a panel is A=750 mm, height B is identical to the neighbouring circuit breaker panels, and depth C=1300, 1350 and
1450 mm. The main circuit compartment and an auxiliary circuit compartment are provided with a door.
The busbar compartment and the auxiliary circuits compartment are separated from the main circuit compartment by metal barriers. The
maintenance plate [22], which covers the upper contacts of the switch disconnector [18] when the door of the cell is open, is inserted
between the open blades of the switch disconnector. In the connected position of the switch the maintenance plate is blocked in the upper
part of the guide rail [20].
Seats of the drives are on the left side of the cell, the switch disconnector [18] and the earthing switch [13] are opened and closed with
a use of a standard handle. Mechanical interlock prevents closure of the switch disconnector when the earthing switch is closed and closure
of the earthing switch when the switch disconnector is closed.

3. OPERATION CHARACTERISTICS
3.1. AUTOMATIC MECHANICAL INTERLOCKS
The applied design solutions prevent unintentional switching blocking the access to the manual drive seat of the earthing
errors. All operations shall be conducted with the compartment switch if the withdrawable part is in the connected position or
door closed. The panels are provided with the following intelligent between service and test position (not available in the
mechanical interlocks: measuring cubicle),
interlock which locks the withdrawable part in test or blocking the position of the manual drive of the earthing switch
connected position, in open or close position of the earthing switch, prohibiting
blocking the access to the power screw of the withdrawable automatic shift of its main contacts, e.g. in result of vibrations,
part if the door of the compartment is not closed, interlock of the door of cable compartment preventing its
interlock which prohibits manipulating the power screw of the opening without earlier closing of the earthing switch,
withdrawable part if the earthing switch is not open (blocking blocking the insertion of a withdrawable part for different
the movement of the circuit breaker); not applied in the purpose or with different rated current.

blocking the lifting of barriers when the withdrawable part is The interlocks are strictly related with the construction of the
removed from the compartment, cubicle. If for some functional reasons an interlock should not be
blocking the opening of the door of withdrawable part used, then it must be agreed with the manufacturer as early as at the
compartment when the part is in connected position or stage of designing use.
intermediate positions between test and service,
blocking the access to the manual drive seat of the earthing
switch if the door of the connection compartment is not closed

3.2. KEY-OPERATED INTERLOCKS

In the basic variant P the following key operated interlocks can
be provided:
BZ-3 interlock for the busbar earthing switch
Between the busbar system earthing switch, which is usually
located in the measuring panel, and the circuit breakers of one
or more incoming panels it prevents earthing the busbars when
one of the incoming panel circuit breakers is closed. The
interlock can be unlocked when the withdrawable parts are in
a test position.
BZ interlock for the manual drive of an earthing switch
It prevents, after removing the key, unauthorized operation of
the earthing switch.
BZ-1 interlock of a busbar coupling cubicle BZ interlock of the earthing switch
Applied in the busbar coupling cubicle, which consists of a
circuit breaker cell and a disconnector cell, to enforce
a correct operation sequence.
electromechanical BZ-5 or key-operated BZ-1 interlock
between other switchgears (e.g. incoming or outgoing)
BZ-5 interlock consists of:
electromechanical lock [ZE] located in any place accessible
for the personnel (e.g. on the front panel of the switchgear),
a normal lock marked BZ-5 which interlocks the operating
mechanism of the earthing switch in the incoming panel
(near the earthing switch drive seat).
By including a switching device in the auxiliary circuit of the
outgoing switchgear, electromechanical dependence between
