Position Title : Intern (Building Healthy Cities)

Type of Appointment : Internship Contract, 3 (three) months, with the possibility
of extension.
Organizational Unit : Migration Health Department (MHD) - Buliding Healthy
Cities (BHC)
Reporting to : National Migration Health Officer (NMHO), Makassar

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN
agency in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-
governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit
of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

position of Intern (Building Healthy Cities). The success candidate will be offered Internship

I. Context:
The Project “Building Healthy Cities” (BHC) aims to embed a health equity lens into existing Smart
Cities in India, Indonesia, and Vietnam, and improve data flow by focusing on city policies, planning,
and services. Despite being outside of the health sector, decisions about environment, transport,
sanitation, recreation, information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and the built
environment can have a large impact on health. By complementing Smart Cities, BHC aims to improve
access to health services, increase availability of usable data for urban health decision making, and
decrease lifestyle and environmental risk factors for poor nutrition and noncommunicable diseases.
In Indonesia, BHC is partnering with Smart City initiatives in Makassar, South Sulawesi, a city which
experiences urbanization and its subsequent issues. The project will empower citizens, health
professionals and policymakers to use data to improve the health of Makassar.
The project will lead to increased partnership between sectors and with health actors in the private
sector, funding for healthy lifestyle related projects, increased demand for healthy city environments
amongst under-represented populations, data access and use amongst decision makers and citizens,
and knowledge transfer for eventual scale-up in other Smart Cities.
Under the direct supervision and management of the National Migration Health Officer in Makassar
and overall supervision of Programme Coordinator, Eastern Region in Makassar, and the Senior
Migration Health Adviser (SMHA) in Jakarta, the incumbent will work in close coordination with the
Project Assistant I (Migration Health) and Project Assistant II (Migration Health) based in Makassar,
the incumbent will be responsible for providing assistance related to data collection, administrative,
and logistic support to the BHC project, and other MHD project.

II. Core Functions / Responsibilities:


1. Assist the National Migration Health Officer (NMHO) to ensure that all health components of
the project are implemented in line with logical frame works.
2. Assist administrative duties in coordination with the NMHO and the Project Assistant I to
ensure that all administrative and logistical arrangements for project activities are carried
out efficiently and effectively.
3. Provide assistance in data collection, journal mapping, tracking all ongoing and planned
activities for the BHC project in coordination with the NMHO and Project Assistant II.
4. Assist Project Assistant I and II in facilitating logistic and administration events.
5. Receive incoming invoice and assist Project Assistant I, to verify and check incoming
invoices/official receipts for payments of project-related activities and ensure that any
supporting documentation is included.
6. Assist Project Assistant to set up and maintain a project filing system for financial and other
documents relating to the BHC project, including purchase request forms, signed contracts,
travel authorizations, security clearances, meeting notes etc.
7. Provide informal translation and interpretation services as required.
8. Assist the Project Assistants I and Project Assistant II and NMHO with clerical matters such
as preparing travel itineraries and writing of letters/communications.
9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by BHC project staff, including
answering phone calls/ responding to Whatsapp and email communications, coordinate with
logistics for staff transportation, coordinate with procurement for stationary and office
supplies for project and implementing partner staff.
10. Contribute to regular team meetings, sharing of knowledge and resources, and attend
appointments as required.
11. Undertake any other related duties as may be assigned.
III. Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
Applicants enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school in Public Health, Urban Planning,
International Development, or Environment, at the time of application of internship, and/or
applicants who have completed at least four years of full-time study at a university. Applicants must
be between the ages of 19 and 36 years old and with less than two years of work experience.

Experience
• Indonesian Nationality.
• Excellent computer skills (Word processing, spread-sheet, database, email exchange)
• Good written and spoken communication skills
• An interest in smart city and healthy city would be an advantage

Languages
Proficient in English and Bahasa Indonesia both oral and written is required.
