SAP NetWeaver Administrator

Use
SAP NetWeaver Administrator is a Web-based framework tool for administration, con guration and monitoring. It consists of
respective integrated tools that help you to con gure, administer and monitor your SAP NetWeaver system, its components, and
the applications running on top of it.
Main features of SAP NetWeaver Administrator:
A central tool for performing administration tasks, such as starting and stopping instances, modifying con guration
settings, analyzing logs and traces as well as heap and thread dumps, ensuring the error-free functioning of all system
components by continuous system monitoring.
Easy-to-use, task-oriented interface
A Web-based tool. That is, you do not need to have a local installation to manage remote systems.
The interface allows seamless navigation to other SAP NetWeaver administration tools.
Represents the crossover from various expert tools to an integrated, simple, and clear solution.
Prerequisites
1. SAP NetWeaver Application Server for Java (AS Java) is running.
2. To start SAP NetWeaver Administrator, enter the following data in a Web browser: http://<host>:<port>/nwa ,
where:
<host> is the host where AS Java is installed.
<port> is the HTTP port of the ICM. It consists of 5<Java instance_number>00 . For example, if the Java
instance number is 60 , the HTTP port is 56000 .
Features
SAP NetWeaver Administrator Security Roles
For authorization, SAP NetWeaver Administrator uses User Management Engine (UME) and the Java Management Extension
(JMX) security features. The following security roles are de ned from an authorization point of view:
NWA_READONLY - allows you to only view the system
NWA_SUPERADMIN - allows you to perform editing tasks (starting/stopping, changing the con guration and so on) but
not to create/edit users
Note
Full control is granted to the Administrator role only.
Granularity concept restricts the access to the speci c functionality or application in SAP NetWeaver Administrator. The user can
view only the professional applications for which he is granted access rights. Granular security roles provide additional security
and restriction to SAP NetWeaver Administrator applications.

application which provides you with the relevant details.
How can I easily nd the application I need?
If you are not sure which work set contains the application you need, use the following ways:
Go to the Search eld.
You can enter only part of the application name with or without accessory symbols.
Go to Site Map . Find the relevant application and choose its link to open it.
If you have already used this application in the current session, use the History option or choose My Workspace Recently
Used .

How can I create a list of favorite applications?
To set an application as a favorite, proceed as following:
1. Choose My Workspace Manage Favorites .
2. From the Available table column, select the application you need and choose .
3. If you want to remove an application from your Favorites , select the row from the Selected column and choose .

If you want to remove all applications from Favorites , choose the button.
How can I quickly access documentation for a particular tool?
Each application in SAP NetWeaver Administrator has its own integrated help. To nd particular documentation, open the relevant
application and choose the Help link.
This link directs you to the respective online page on SAP Help Portal (default location).
How can I change the default help location?
If you want your links to direct not to the default SAP Help Portal URL, but to another online/offline SAP documentation repository,
proceed as follows:
1. Open the Java System Properties tool.
2. Choose the Applications tab and in the Name lter eld, enter " mainframe ".
3. Select the application tc~lm~itsam~ui~mainframe~wd .
4. In the Properties pane, choose the HELP_PATH property and then choose Modify .
5. Enter the required help directory/URL:

How can I con gure the framework of my SAP NetWeaver Administrator?
The Personalize menu (on a work center/work set level) provides you with the following options:
To set the current work set as a default start page, choose Personalize My Entry Page Set Current As Entry Page .
To reset to the default one, choose Set Default As Entry Page .
If you want to open your applications in a new browser window/tab, choose Personalize Window Handling Open
Applications in New Window .
Otherwise, choose Open Applications in Current Window .
How can I set the time zone I need?
You are allowed to set different kinds of time zones according to your needs.
To set the time zone of your current working system, choose Personalize Time Zone System Time Zone .
To set the time zone of the logged-on AS Java user, choose Personalize Time Zone User Time Zone .
To set a speci c area time zone, choose Personalize Time Zone Custom Time Zone .
From the table displayed, select the area you need and choose OK .
How can I see support details about the current application?
Open the relevant application and choose the Support Info link. It provides you with the following details:

How can I jump to related applications/tasks?
If you perform a task in an application and then you want to perform related tasks in another application, use the Related Links
option. The other application is opened in a new browser window/tab using the same SAP NetWeaver Administrator session.
Example
For example, you con gure log controllers in the Log Con guration application and then you want to view the relevant log
records. Thus, choose Related Links Log Viewer .
How can I make the con guration changes persistent?
You are not expected to perform any activities for making your changes persistent. When you con gure a GUI item in SAP
NetWeaver Administrator (for example, you modify a table column (in pixels) or change the number of the table rows), the relevant
con guration change automatically becomes persistent.

Granular Roles and Security in SAP

NetWeaver Administrator
Use
Users with Application Speci c role have special authorizations for accessing the application and performing operations. Similar
to the two security roles (NWA_READONLY and NWA_SUPERADMIN), the Application Speci c role extends the purpose of
granularity providing more restricted and special access to the applications.
Embedded Application Actions
There are two User Management Engine (UME) actions for every Embedded Application.
ReadOnly Action - To provide read-only access to the embedded application users
SuperAdmin Action - To provide full access to the embedded application users
These actions are attached to a role which is then assigned to a user.

Context
Use this procedure to change the status of Java instances at runtime.
Procedure
1. From SAP NetWeaver Administrator, choose Operations Systems Start & Stop .
2. Choose the Java Instances tab.
All available instances are displayed in a table with corresponding information about the server processes within the
instance.
3. Select an instance.
Its server processes are listed in the Details About Instance <n> pane. You can:
Start, stop or restart a Java instance.
Enable or disable debug mode for AS Java processes.
View and refresh OS processes.

2. Choose the Java Services tab.
All services available are displayed in a table format with their corresponding information. The Core indicator is enabled if
the service is a core service, that is, if the service provides core functions within AS Java.
Note
The core services cannot be stopped or restarted.
3. Select a service.
The instances on which this service is run are displayed within the Details About Service <name> pane.
4. Choose Start , Stop or Restart to perform the relevant activity you want.

Viewing Application References, Modules, Resources and Details
Select an application, go to the Details About <application_name> area and choose from the following tabs:
Status - show the current status of the application.
Reference - shows all the components (services, interfaces, libraries, other applications) that are in reference with the
application.
Modules - shows the Java modules that compose the application.
Resources - shows the Java resources used by the application.
Details - provides general information about the application. It also provides an option for managing the application
failover.
Aliases - shows the aliases for direct access to the application.

which is a part of Automation Wizard Administration . These tasks are available to you as executable templates.

1. Log on to the SAP NetWeaver Administrator application.

4. Choose Next to view the list of all dependencies that will be started together with the application.
5. Choose Finish .
Stopping Applications
2. Select the required running application and choose Stop .
3. The Stop <application> Functionality wizard appears, providing the following options:
Using Default Behavior - stops all dependencies together with the " lazy stopped " applications.
Setting "Stopped" as Default State - stops all dependencies as they accept " default stopped " status. That is, the
next time the AS Java is started, these applications will be stopped.
Only Stop Lazy Java EE Applications Associated with Functionality - stops only the " lazy stopped " applications.
4. Choose Next to view the list of all dependencies that will be stopped together with the application.

Use
Using Session Management , you can monitor and administer all open user sessions in AS Java. All sessions are aggregated. You
can perform the following activities:
monitor who is working on the system and what applications they are using
start tracing particular sessions
terminate cluster/user sessions
activate lters and then view the result in other related tools
Prerequisites
To start the function, open SAP NetWeaver Administrator and navigate to Con guration Infrastructure Session Management
.

Procedure
Monitoring Sessions
In the User Sessions area, you get a list of all user sessions on AS Java (for example, Administrator, Guest, other user).
In the table, you can view various parameters of a user session:
Last Accessed Time - shows the time when a user has last accessed the session.
Total Number of Requests - represents the sum of the requests of all its cluster sessions.
Total Active Requests - shows the sum of all active requests in the cluster sessions. If no cluster session is active - the
number for the relevant user session is 0 (zero).
Longest Active Request - shows the active/inactive requests and their duration (in milliseconds).
Longest Response Time - shows the maximum response time among all cluster sessions.
Overall CPU Usage , Overall DB Time , Allocated Memory - analogically as Longest Response Time .
Trace Options - shows the options you have chosen when start tracing. For more information, see the " Tracing Sessions "
procedure below.
Pro le Result - provides a ZIP le you can download to see the results from the last tracing.
Administering Sessions

To terminate a session, select it and choose Terminate .
If you select a session from Individual Sessions , only it will be stopped. If you select a user session, all its individual
sessions will be stopped.
To terminate a certain application, select it and choose Terminate .
To update the list of sessions or applications, choose the relevant Refresh buttons.
To download all the table data into a spreadsheet application, choose Export to Spreadsheet .
If you set lters, you have a direct connection to other tools where you can view logs or perform tasks concerning these
particular lters. To do that, choose Related Links .
Example
1. Select a session with ID = <Session_Number> .
2. Choose Related Links View Session Logs . The Log Viewer tool is opened.
3. Choose Show Advanced Filter . The Passport HTTP Session lter is set with lter value =
<Session_Number> .
4. In the table, you can see all logs and traces relevant for the selected session.
Tracing Sessions
1. Select the particular session and choose Start Trace . A dialog box appears.
2. From Trace Options , select the tracing methods you need.
Note
You can have only one of the JVM Pro ler - Memory Analysis and the JVM Pro ler - CPU Analysis options selected at
the same time.
3. Choose OK .
4. In the Trace Options column of the table, you can see the methods you have selected.
Caution
Only one tracing process is allowed to be running at a time. That is, If you start another one (from another browser or user), a
message appears warning you that the current trace will be stopped.
Advanced Searching
1. To search for a particular session, choose Show Advanced Search .
You can use the following options:
Application Name - you can enter only part of the application name string.
Session ID - you need to enter the whole ID number, since each session is unique.
Action - you can enter only part of the action name string.
2. Choose Go .
3. To clear the current search criteria, choose Clear .

System Performance Statistics

Use
The Java System Properties tool enables you to view and edit online the current system con guration of the AS Java. This
includes default and custom property data.
You can perform the following tasks:
View and edit properties of kernel and service modules
View properties of Java applications
View and edit JVM parameters on a particular instance
View shared tables (shared memory)
View and edit lters
These tasks are valid for all server processes on template and instance level.
Prerequisites
Open SAP NetWeaver Administrator and then choose Con guration Infrastructure Java System Properties .
Procedure
From the Templates pane, choose the template or an instance, depending on the level you want to view/con gure properties.

We recommend that you make your con gurations on an instance level.
Activate a Con guration Template
If you want to change the current template, proceed as follows:
1. Choose Show Advanced Properties .
2. Choose Change Template .
A dialog window informs you that the operation requires AS Java to be restarted.
3. Select the new template and choose the custom settings you need. Choose OK .
4. In order the changes to take effect, restart AS Java.

Viewing Properties on an Application

JCo RFC Provider Service

Use
The RFC is an SAP interface protocol, which simpli es the programming of communication processes between systems. The RFCs
enable you to call and execute prede ned functions in a remote system, or in the same system. The RFCs manage the
communication process, parameter transfer, and error handling.
In the AS Java the RFC functions are implemented by the RFC Engine service, which is presented in the SAP NetWeaver
Administrator under the name JCo RFC Destinations. This service is used for processing ABAP to Java requests. A feature is
provided for receiving calls from the SAP systems - this is done by registering the AS Java as an RFC destination.
The RFC Engine service processes calls from the SAP systems. It dispatches the calls to a stateless session bean, which is
registered in the AS Java naming system. By naming convention the JNDI name used is identical to the name of the SAP function
module.
Technically, the service is based on the JCo (SAP Java Connector).
Integration
This section explains how the RFC Engine works within the AS Java environment.
RFC Scenario

1. On startup the RFC Engine serviceconnects to the Web AS repository.
2. On startup the RFC Engine serviceregisters itself at the Gateway with a de ned name. It is possible to register it under
different names and at different Gateways.
3. The Web AS calls a function for the registered RFC destination.
Note
Make sure that the function is de ned in the repository!
4. The Gateway forwards the call to the RFC Engine service.
5. The RFC Engine servicelooks in the JNDI for the EJB, which is registered under the function name.
Note
The name of the function must be identical with the JNDI name of the bean, that is, it is necessary to have a JNDI name.
If there is no such name, the RFC Engine service will not be able to nd the bean.
It is advisable for the beans to be written with a LocalHome interface.
6. The RFC Engine servicecalls the processFunction(JCO.Function) method of the EJB found.
7. The results of that call (the modi ed JCO.Function ) are passed to the Gateway.
8. The Gateway passes the results back to the Web AS.
Features
The RFC Engine service uses a TCP/IP connection type. Hence, the destination must be created in the Web AS with a gateway host
and gateway service for the particular system. Then, on the AS Java, the same destination with the same name, host, and service
is created.
You then have to write a bean with a method having signature public void processFunction(com.sap.mw.jco.JCO.Function
function)throws java.lang.Exception.
You also have to de ne a local interfaces for this bean having the same method signature.

Both local interface and bean implementation have completely the same signature including the declaration "
throws.java.lang.Exception ". If local interfaces are missing the data changed will not be transferred to the caller. In
case the local interfaces are missing or have different method signature than it is in the bean implementation, the thrown
Exceptions cannot be properly transferred to the caller.
The bean should contain AS Java speci c descriptor de ning for what Function Module this bean can be called.

Security
The RFC Engine service supports SSO Tickets. That is, if in the ABAP environment the corresponding RFC destination is
con gured to send a SSO Ticket, during a Function Call "ABAP-J2EE Engine" this SSO ticket will be received. This will activate the
process of authorizing the user.
The service also provides you the possibility to de ne particular RFC destinations to use Secure Network Connection (SNC).

Prerequisites
When started from the SAPMMC, the J2EE Engine is running in a process owned by the user "SAPServiceC11" (this is the case only
if you have not changed it during the installation). Therefore, you should use a certi cate issued especially for this user. To activate
a certi cate, proceed as follows:
1. Copy the PSE le to a directory and make sure it can be accessed by the user who will later own the process.
2. Activate it with sapgenpse.exe and sapcrypto.dll (you need the PIN that protects the PSE le; the syntax is "
sapgenpse seclogin -p filename -x pin -O user ") - this creates a cred_v2- le.

1. In the J2EE Engine Visual Administrator, choose Server → Services → JCo RFC Provider → Runtime → SNC Settings.
2. Choose the Use SNC option to start the con guration process.

some additional product information. The normal format is: <name type>:<external name>

b. Integrity Protection- with this protection level, the system detects any changes or manipulation of the data which
may have occurred between the two end points of a communication. Integrity protection also includes
authentication.
c. Privacy Protection - with this protection level, the system encrypts the messages being transferred to make
eavesdropping useless. Privacy protection also includes integrity protection of the data. This is the maximum level
of protection provided by SNC.
d. Default Protection

5. In the SNC Library Path eld, specify the path to the "secude.dll" library.
6. In the Authorization Partner eld, enter the SNC name of the authorization partner. This name can be obtained from the
SNC settings of the corresponding RFC destination con gured in the ABAP system, for example.
Creating Destinations
Use
The AS Java provides the function to be called from the server. This is done by registering the server as an RFC destination. This
registration is done using the JCo RFC Destinations.
To parse the function calls from the Web AS correctly, the SAP JCo (Java Connector) needs a repository, which must be created in
the JCo RFC Destinations along with the new destination.
Procedure
1. On the initial page, choose Create.
2. On Step 1, enter a name for the destination and choose Next.
The name must be unique.
3. On Step 2, enter the following and choose Next:

Gateway Host
The Gateway Host is the host as con gured in Con guration of RFC Connections (transaction code SM59). By
default, it is the same as the Application Server Host.
Gateway Service
The Gateway Service is the service as con gured in Con guration of RFC Connections (transaction code SM59). By
default, it is the system number of the con gured Application Server Host.
Server Count
The number of simultaneously running servers.
4. On Step 3, enter the Application Host, the System Number, the Client number and choose Next.
5. On Step 4, enter the User and the Password and choose Next.
6. On Step 5, choose if you want to log using a Secure Network Connection (SNC).
If you select Use SNC, all input elds become active.

7. (optional) On Step 6, enter the following:
The language code.
If you select Local, the system runs the servers only on one JEE 5 instance, otherwise, it runs servers on each
server instance.
If you select Trace, the system activates the RFC traces.
8. On Step 7, the system displays a summary of your entries. To con rm your entries, choose Finish.

Tracing JCo Calls

Use
Use this procedure to trace JCo calls coming from the SAP systems. The JCo traces write information about the invocated
methods and the data passed through the underlying communication layers throughout the call.

The activation of JCo traces signi cantly slows down the communication. Therefore, you must only activate them on a
development support request.
Procedure
1. In the J2EE Engine Visual Administrator, choose Server → Services → JCo RFC Provider → Runtime.
2. Choose the Special Settings tab.
Use one or more of the options below to activate different types of traces on the JCo calls:
a. JCo Trace Level - you can choose the trace level from 0 to 10, where 10 is the highest and most detailed level of
tracing. The JCo traces are written into folder <install_dir>\j2ee\cluster\server<xx> and have format JCO*.trc (for
example, JCO050914_163247845.trc).
b. JRFC Trace - a JCo tracing for a single connection. The JRFC traces are written into folder
<install_dir>\j2ee\cluster\server<xx> and have format jrfc*.trc (for example, jrfc01268_05104.trc).
c. Global JRFC Trace - a JCo tracing for all connections.
d. CPIC Trace Level - Common Programming Interface - Communication (CPIC) tracing. This is the communication
layer under JRFC (or JCo). You can choose a trace level from 0 to 3, where 3 is the highest and most detailed level of
tracing.
The CPIC traces are written into <install_dir>\work\dev_server<xx> le.
e. JARM - activates the Java Application Response Time Measurement trace. For more information about JARM, see
Java Application Response Time Measurement .
f. Local bundle - select this indicator, if you want the bundle to run only on the current cluster element.
3. Choose Set.

The traffic light of Started is red if no nodes are started. To resolve this problem, restart your AS Java or determine the
exact reason why it has stopped.
The traffic light of Failed is red, if at least one node has failed.
The Restarts function shows the total number of restarts of all server nodes in the system. If the number of restarts is too
high, determine which server node has the greatest number of restarts.
To manage the problems with all started, failed, and restarted nodes, choose View Java Server Nodes from the dropdown menu
for each function and navigate to the Start & Stop application in SAP NetWeaver Administrator.

wait until a free slot is available.

GS Ratio - shows the average proportion of total time used by the last full garbage collection.
GC State - shows aggregated data for all monitors under node /Kernel/SAPJVM/GCProblemReporting/ . If one of the
monitors from this group has red or yellow state, the GC State monitor has also red or yellow state.
Full GC Duration - shows the duration of the last garbage collection.
Heap Dump - shows the number of heap dump les that have occurred on all server processes of your AS Java. If the
monitor's value is bigger than 1, you can easily detect memory leak on a server process.
Released Memory - shows the released memory per minute by the garbage collector when the garbage collection is
running.
System State - shows aggregated data for all monitors under node /Kernel/SAPJVM/SystemProblemReporting/ . If one
of the monitors from this group has red or yellow state, the System State monitor has also red or yellow state.

Use
You can view the CPU usage, the free disk space and the maximum and total system memory utilization of the operating system
via the monitors in the Operating System block.
CPU Usage - shows the average CPU usage aggregated for all systems as well as the maximum CPU usage of a particular
system.
Free Space - shows the percentage of the free hard disk space on your system. It displays info about the hard disk which
has less space from all.
Memory Utilization - shows the memory utilization of the system's physical and virtual memory.
Paging - shows the activity of the operating system pages. That is, it displays the sum of Pages In and Pages Out from the
memory of your system.

Viewing CPU Usage
You can view the current status of your CPU work. You have the following options:
To view the history chart, choose View History .
The History Reports tool is opened where you can view (and con gure) the DefaultReport chart.
If the gauge light is yellow or red, it indicates that you CPU usage is too high and may cause a problem. To resolve it,
proceed as follows:

Viewing Incoming Calls
1. From the Show dropdown box, choose Incoming calls .
2. In the Advanced Search screen area, you can:
Choose all installed instances of the system or specify the instance you want to view.
Specify important parameters for the incoming calls of the monitored instance, such as start date and time,
protocol, action and action type, user, response time, CPU time, external time, DB time, and allocated memory.
Choose Go to display the speci ed parameters or Clear to delete the lter set.
3. In the Call List screen area, you can nd a list of all instance's incoming calls and their important parameters.
4. When select an incoming call, information about its parameters is displayed in the Call Details screen area.
Viewing Outgoing Calls
1. From the Show dropdown box, choose Outgoing calls .
2. In the Advanced Search screen area specify the call parameters.
3. Choose Go to start the lter and Clear to delete the requirements set.
4. In the Call List screen area, information about the component type, system ID, destination, call time, connection ID, and
connection counter is displayed.

Note

Setting a Trace Level

Comparing Systems
Use
The Compare Systems function enables you to compare the con guration of a certain system with another one. You can compare
your production and test environment systems to detect con guration changes between them. You can also generate a URL le to
start the application for system comparison.
The available data options for comparison are as follows:
Local System - the current local system you work on;
Remote System - another system you want to remotely use for comparison. You need to ll all the relevant elds.
Uploaded File - an XML le with stored system data, previously downloaded from the Compare System tool
Stored State - you can choose a record from the dropdown list with stored state records, if any. This list is available in the
Stored System Data table on the Manage Data tab page.

The Open SQL Data Browser is a tool for viewing the content of database tables residing in the system database schema.
Using the Open SQL Data Browser, you can display all data from the table of interest. You can change the set of the columns that
are displayed. To restrict the amount of data, you can de ne search conditions by specifying table and column predicates.
Prerequisites
You are in the Troubleshooting Database Open SQL Data Browser function of SAP NetWeaver Administrator.
Your user account has permissions to read data from system DataSource tables.
To be able to read system DataSource tables, you must have de ned a User Management Engine (UME) action for the
desired tables, and assigned the UME action to the role or group your user account belongs to.

exclusive non-cumulative
Whereas exclusive locks can be requested several times by the same owner and released one by one, an
exclusive, non-cumulative lock can only be requested once by the same owner. Each further lock request will
be rejected.
shared
Several owners can access locked data at the same time in display mode. Requests from further shared
locks are accepted, even if they are from different owners. An exclusive lock set on an object that already has
a shared lock will be rejected.
check shared
Same as shared, does not actually set the lock in the locking server.
optimistic
Optimistic locks initially like shared locks and can be converted into exclusive locks.
optimistic to exclusive
Converts the optimistic lock in an exclusive lock, and all other optimistic locks of different users are deleted.
3. Choose Create . The newly created lock appears in the lock list.
Releasing Locks
To release a lock, select the lock in the list and choose Remove Lock .
Note
To release all locks belonging to a selected owner, select a lock from the list and choose Remove All Locks Belonging To
Selected Owner .
