IST541: Final Project

Project Title: Lacing for all occasions

Description:
My final project will be a job-aid that can be used in support of my capstone project. It
will present a series of different shoe lacing techniques to address common causes of foot
injuries and blisters during marathons and marathon training. This will be done via photos,
dialog, and video examples.

Target Audience:
My target audience will be members of the Los Angeles Road Runners or Los Angeles
running club with little to no marathon running experience. This is a diverse group. They vary
in age from seventeen to early eighties, although the largest population is probably in their
forties and skews female. Like the age range, I suspect education also varies greatly. I have
come to this assumption of the education ranges due to the professions I have come to know of
those I have trained with. They include a bartender, a neuro-surgeon, a mechanic, and at least
three lawyers. English is the first language of most, but not all runners in the LARR.
Sign-ups for the Los Angeles Marathon and the Los Angeles Road Runners are handled
exclusively online. All communications between novice runners and their “pace leaders” is
accomplished through e-mail and social media platforms. Because of this it can be assumed
that all learners will have access to a computer that has internet access.

Leaning Objectives:
After experiencing foot-related pain or discomfort during a training run, a learner will be able
to:
1. Identify the area, and possible cause of the pain or discomfort
2. Select proper lacing technique to address their specific malady
3. Lace their own shoe in the way instructed
