Tree Identification

In this activity we will look to identify the trees we have on the school grounds. Most of the

trees around the school are Maple trees, however they are not all the same species. In

groups of 2, it will be your job to identify 4 of the species using a dichotomous key and

create an identification card for each tree.

Identification
- Common Name
- Latin Name

Description of leaf
- Type of tree (deciduous or conifer)
- Shape
- Simple or Composite leaves
- Number or lobes
- Contour (many or few teeth)
- Symmetrical or Asymmetrical leaves
- Date of harvest
