PREFACE

This report has been submitted in the partial fulfilment of the requirement of the
B.Com degree. It consists of the Internship project on the post of Management
Trainee at Manglam Electronics, Bhopal (M.P.) from 07-02-19 to 21-02-19 at
03:00 P.M. till 07:00 P.M. making it to be 60 hours. This report is solely been
made by me.

The report includes all the learning during my on-job training as an intern in the
organization. I got the practical exposure of applying class room theories to
practical work of life. I have made my sincere attempts to collect the relevant
facts for the purpose of internship report and would to maintain the
confidentiality of material facts.

Writing this report has been challenging for me and I hope it fulfil the
expectations. My internship guide on this project report was Mr. Animesh
Bansal, Co-Director under Management Department, who from the beginning
introduced me to the internship i needed to undertake. I got the bright
opportunity to carry my internship at Manglam Electronics as Management
Trainee. I decided to join for this training as it would help my professional
growth and give hands on practical aspects.

This report attempts to bring under one cover the entire hard work and dedication
put in by me in completion of this project work.

industry. Established in the year 1986, this electronics store takes care of all
the gadget related requirements of its customers. It is situated at New
market square, Bhopal. It offers an array of world-renowned brands like
Apple, Sony, Samsung, LG, Philips, Videocon , Dell, Lenovo, Panasonic,
HP, Nikon, Canon, Whirlpool, Hitachi etc. all under one roof. At present
Manglam Electronics offers products in various categories such as Home

appliance, personal care and Gaming.

Today, Manglam operates 4 ultra-modern showrooms in Bhopal.

Manglam also has a strong presence in the virtual world. Its website

Play Store facilitates safe & convenient online shopping for the customers.
There are special schemes and offers for the customers. The buying process
too is very easy & convenient.

In this report we have analysed the internal and external environment of


Manglam Electronics in various parameters such as retail format,
competitive landscape, key customer segment, pricing and promotional
strategy, staffing, and usage of technology.
We have studied the performance and functioning of competitors to come
up with SWOT analysis to identify areas of improvement and leveraging
their strengths which are high recall, strong customer care and after sales

Service and customer engagement. The various methodologies used in this


project are in-depth interviews, getting customer insights through survey
and through visits to Lotus electronics and other similar showrooms in
Indore. Based on the feedback received from these activities and after
accessing the feasibility of incorporating new ideas we have provided our
recommendations.

Manglam India electronics is a popular electronics chain in Bhopal. It is a


Multi brand retail outlet chain with assortment of electronics ranging from
low ticket items like mobile accessories to high ticket durables like TVs,
ACs and laptops.

Grid Layout:

There are typically 8 sections in a Manglam store spread across 2 floors


arranged in a grid layout. Sections are placed in long rows and run at right
angles throughout the store.

 The 8 sections are - Home Entertainment, Home Appliances, Kitchen


Appliances, Mobiles & Accessories, Desktops & Laptops, Cameras,
Personal Care and Gaming.
 Sections as per Price-The sections are arranged in such a way that the
products with similar price ranges are placed in the same part of the
floor.
 Advantages of Grid layout- Easy to locate merchandise, easily
accessible to customers and cost efficient.
 Disadvantages of Grid layout- Limited browsing & limited creativity in
decor and low flexibility.
 Same format across outlets: As a chain outlet with multiple outlets in
Bhopal, the major advantage that they enjoy is the high bargaining
power with the suppliers leading to high customer satisfaction as the
shops can always give them excellent service. The other advantage is
that new brands will reach these stores faster.
 The major disadvantage when it comes to chain outlets is that they
have very limited flexibility as all the pricing and the formats they use
have to be consistent across the different outlets and also any
managerial decision cannot be made particular to one store.

Job Profile
JOB PROFILE

“Management trainee positions require trainees to work closely with


managers and perform delegated managerial responsibilities with an
objective of learning the practical aspects of the corporate
environment.”

During this process, trainees gain the experience and knowledge required to
perform managerial duties alone. The primary responsibility is to work with
managers to assist them in day to day operations. The job description also
requires trainees to monitor employee output and manage functions.

Management trainees assist with the daily responsibilities and duties of


managing a business.

Management trainees accept delegated tasks from managers while enrolled


in company sponsored training programs that prepare them to eventually
handle complex situations in future. Management trainees will usually
handle established accounts to familiarize themselves with clients. They
will be cross-trained in different departments to gain perspective on the
overall operation of the company's sales, marketing, purchasing and
customer service departments.
Primary responsibilities:-

 Work with other managers to plan and direct the work of the
organization.

 Help set policies.

 Evaluate work output.

 Attend lectures, watch guest speakers, and create projects, oral


presentations.

 Work in different departments to gain perspective, including


marketing, sales, customer services, purchasing, merchandising, and
personnel departments.

 Use company reports to analyse sales, gross profit and inventory


activity.

 Identify trends and recommends proactive or remedial action to


manage business situations.

 Report market activity to management by monitoring and analysing


competitive price lists and products.

 Work with and through management to develop and implement


actions that protect company assets and profitability.
Internship
Work allotted by Manglam Electronics Management:

 Major part of my work was to meet and deal with various customers
and introduce them with the various products available according to
their choice and tell them about the discounts and offers available on
those products.

 To arrange weekly reports or sales data of the customers.

 Learning staff functions and line management view points, company


policies, practices and operations which are significant in the proper
functioning of an organization in the corporate world.

 Setting objectives and performance goals with higher officials and


trainers of the organization.

 Receiving training in operations and functions so that successive


transferability between other departments is carried out properly by
the management trainee.
DAILY WORK
REPORT
DAY 1 DATE- 7 Feb DAY-Thursday TIMING –3 P.M.

 On the very first day, I met with the director sir to know about their
company and how they work hard to be the leading brand in this city.
I was taught all the rules and regulations of the organization, which
were to be strictly followed and some of them are :-
 Punctuality
 Authority and responsibility
 Accountability
 Customer satisfaction.
 Then i was introduced to all the staff members and other interns
working and learning simultaneously . I was told to follow directions
of Mr. Animesh Bansal , Co-Director , and Head of Operations at the
New Market Branch.
 I was given a brief description of the products that they deal in , and
how many categories of products they have in store.
 Initially my manager asked to observe the employees dealing with
customers at the point of sale. I steadily observed and learnt
thoroughly on the very first day.
 As the working hours of first day came to end, manager called for me
. He spoke to me about my learning’s about dealing with customers
and the marketing skills performed by the employees. He directed me
to do the same for a few days to come so that I understand what a
customer demands and how to deal with their choices and queries.
DAY-02 DATE- 8 Feb DAY-Friday TIMING-3 P.M.

 On reporting to the manager, i was assigned to the sales department.


 They told me about the offers that are on-going. They asked me to learn
about the features and specifications of the products.
 Then I was also asked to attend the customer with the senior staff
member so that I can understand the customer behaviour.
 The day was fully engaged in knowing about the products and their
details.
 On the day end , I met with my manager and asked for his brief guidance
on communication skills helpful in dealing a customer.
DAY-03 DATE-9 Feb DAY-Saturday TIMING-3 P.M.

 Today I was assigned to the senior sales executive who asked a few
questions as in what I have learned yesterday, how was my day, am I
enjoying the work etc.
 The senior executive was happy with the product knowledge I have
gained in a day and ask to continue the good work and ask to learn
about the products details only for the day as well.
 And he also said that if I have any queries regarding the product or any
offer I can directly ask him or anyone available at the moment.
 Today I learned about the details and specification of the laptops and
television and their added features.
 The product details are specific and the price of the product is highly
dependent on the product specializations.
DAY-04 DATE-10 Feb DAY-Sunday Timing-3 P.M.

 As a routine today also went directly to the manager to report him first
and then went directly to the sales executive.
 Today the sales executive asked a few more questions related to the
product details that learned and asked if I am ready for the customer
engagement. On agreeing that I might be ready to deal in customer
who requires the laptops as have learned about the features of the
laptops efficiently.
 Then the sales executive informed about the offers that we have for
the different laptops and what type of quires does a customer have.
 Then for the day work was assigned to the laptop section to deal with
the customers.
 Was supervised by senior sales executive to support me in dealing
with the customer in case I was stuck somewhere.
 In the whole day dealt with three customers who purchased the laptop
and a few who came to know about the details and required time to
make a final call.
DAY 5 DATE-11 Feb DAY-Monday Timing-3 P.M.

 Things were same as before, report to the manager and then after
consulting sales executive went for same work as yesterday.
 Dealing and interacting with customers was getting more interesting
and number of the deals was increasing in laptops and televisions.
 After some time the sales executive called me and asked to learn
about some new products like refrigerator and washing machines.
 The sales executive started telling me about features and
specifications of refrigerators and washing machine alternatively.
 Then, he handed me the brochure and taught how to indulge with
customers and provide them information about the products through
that brochure.
 The interest was rising in a full swing to learn more and more about
different products and handling the customers. Then attended some
customers for refrigerators but Alas! Failed in some cases to finalise
the deal.
 By the time the working hours were finished.
Day 6 Date-12 Feb Day-Tuesday Timing-3:30 P.M.

 The start of the day was not as earlier as I was late to reach the
organization due to some college work, but it didn’t affect the
superior-subordinate relationship.
 Then reported to the sales executive and he informed the mistakes I
made a day before in dealing and told me to look after it.
 Then again day started with customer interaction and tries to avoid the
mistakes made earlier and made better sales that day which help me to
gain managers appreciation.
 It was asked to work some time more after the working hours as I
reached late that day.
 And in that extra time, was made aware of other remaining products
such as mobile phones, radios, microwaves, toaster, water purifiers,
etc.
 The features of these products were quite easy to learn as were used in
daily routine by most of the people including me.
 Discounts and offers on such products were not much as these were
small products and with low prices compared to other like television
and refrigerator.
 With this, another day work came to end.
Day 07 Date-13 Feb Day-Wednesday Timing-3 P.M.

 After reaching the organization it was noticed that the customer flow
was huge because it is the valentine day`s eve .
 So, as soon as reporting to the manager, was asked to indulge in
customers.
 Since the customer flow was more of young age, they were full of
product information and which was the convenient part of the day.
But the interaction with this type of people was really interesting as
it gives more experience.
 The demand on that day was great for mobile phone as it is the
biggest need for youngsters in today’s modern world. As being a
youngster, it was easy to make a seller buyer relationship which led
to more of customer satisfaction.
 The manager also seems to look happy watching customers leaving
happily. The time of four hours on that day didn’t felt and passed
like have spent just an hour dealing in customers.
 After having a happy conversation with the manager, I left for the
day.
Day 08 Date-14 Feb Day-Thursday Timing-3 P.M.

 A new day started, but reporting was similar as always and being the
valentine day customer flow was high enough.
 Dealing with the customers and providing the information was the same
as previous days.
 The offers and discounts were more which called for customer flow and
to purchase more products. The offers were somewhat difficult to
understand by the customers as they differ product to product.
 Some known faces also came to purchase the products, and they felt
really happy as I helped them through their purchase decision.
 And when there were no customers and was free at the point of time,
the sales executive came and said that you have learnt more than
expected by a new intern and did a good job.
 This statement made me more confident and then finished my work for
the day.
.Day 09 Date-15 Feb Day-Friday Timing-3 P.M.

 Being a student of tax stream, on day nine, my manager decided to send


me to financial department to brush up my knowledge.
 When went to financial department, It was a quite different experience,
rather than the noisy surrounding, I felt complete discipline and order in
the way employees were working there .
 I was just shown the various softwares and tools used in the electronic
mode of doing accounting. Also I was told to not open or edit any file
not authorised by the supervisor.
 Then I was asked to tally the accounts made by the computer typist just
for observation as they were again done by the accountants being my
seniors .
 Then it was taught the GST system for electronics.
 Under GST It was informed how it is levied on different products and
what percentage was to be levied.
 I came to know that on most of the products 18% of tax was levied.
 After GST, It was shown how other computer work carried by the
employees like of handling online transactions and answering customers
about their problems on online transactions.
 Wasn’t allowed to indulge much in financial department as experience
was required there and it carried confidential information.
 The work came to an end for day nine with understanding of some
financial work.
Day 10 Date-16 Feb Day-Saturday Timing-3 P.M.

 Went to report to my manager, was allotted with the after sales service
supervisor.
 After sales services are also challenging as we come to know with the
problems faced by the customers.
 After sales service, mainly include installation of products like
refrigerators, television, air coolers, washing machine, etc.
Transportation of products at their destination was also the important
part of after sales service department. Also, the after sales service
department handles the problems faced by customers within warranty
period of the product. At Manglam, the time frame of solving the
problems was limited within 48 hours of receiving the complaint.
 After sales service department has to look through various problems
and play a key role in image building of the organization as goodwill
of any organization lies in services it provide after or before the
product is sold.
Day 11 Date-17 Feb Day-Sunday Timing-3 P.M.

 As usual reporting to manager was necessary, and this day also went
to look after the after sales service department.
 But today I was sent to a customer`s home to assist the supervisor of
home installation and see how a manager has to take care of the
product during transit and during installation.
 I witnessed a live demo of installation of television which was not as
easy as it seems to be. I was also told to observe and learn for
knowledge purpose.
 After the installation was completed, the supervisor did some
paperwork and we left the client`s place.
 With this the day came to an end.
Day 12 Date-18 Feb Day-Monday Timing-3 P.M

 As the summer was near, on reaching the organization for reporting,


the new stock of coolers and air conditioners was getting unloaded
from the truck.
 So the manager asked to go back to the sales executive and learn
about features and specifications of air coolers and air conditioners.
 The sales executive felt happy looking back and then was made aware
of all the specifications related to the product. It was again put for the
sales department, for the sales of coolers and air conditioners but first
went to look through some other employees dealing customers to
know how to convince customers for the product.
 Then I also started dealing with customers, and convince many people
to purchase coolers.
 It was a nice experience in sales department once again, and with this
it came to my knowledge that I am good in sales function.
Day 13 Date-19 Feb Day-Tuesday Timing-3 P.M.

 This day also after reporting to my manager, was put in sales as it


needs more and more time.
 Sales were getting more and more interesting , as well as interacting
with customers.
 After spending some time in sales department, went to human
resource department to have a look at what is done there.
 As there was no prior knowledge related to it, human resource (HR)
manager gave some guidance and taught some basics.
 It came to my notice that some recruitment was going on and people
were getting hired on the basis of CV`s / Resume they had sent while
applying for the job.
 It felt good that this internship provided theoretical and some practical
knowledge as it plays the key role in every field. Then just left from
that department as it requires time in this department which was short.
 After that as the day was about to end went back to the manager to
report and leave for the day.
Day 14 Date-20 Feb Day-Wednesday Timing-3 P.M.

 This day also after reporting to the manager, was assigned in sales as
it needs more and more time.
 Today went directly to handle the customer independently and helped
them with their queries and sold them products as per their
specifications and requirements.
 With the knowledge and customer engagement the manager and the
sales executive were really delighted. It was informed that I am doing
a good work and should continue doing the same.
 Have enjoyed a lot today working independently which boosted my
confidence a lot.
 And like that the shift came to end.
Day 15 Date-21 Feb Day-Thursday Timing-3 P.M.

 As this was the last working day of the internship, manager greeted with
a lot pleasure and had mixed feelings as not going to work further more
with so nice people but had learned a lot in last 15 days.
 That day haven’t worked much as was meeting everyone in the
organization and taking the goodbye from them.
 Then went to the sales executive who taught a lot, was really happy with
the effort and I thanked him with my full pleasure as he played key role
in providing the selling skills. But the journey of the internship was
really interesting and it came to an end today.
 With this took a leave from the organization wishing everyone a
goodbye, and promised to keep coming to meet everyone.
LEARNINGS
Internship of fifteen days taught a lot of how to put the theoretical
knowledge learnt in classroom into the practical world. This proved very
beneficiary as we get to know about management of business.

The main task we did in our internship was sales and we put our knowledge
in it to convince the customers to purchase products, as sales is the element
for which organisation is set as it generates profit.

With sales we have also learnt activities of different department like of after
sales service, financial department, and human resource department.

Internship is said to be a very important part of a student life as it provides


direction to them for future and guides them as what knowledge is to be
used where in management and how it will be proved beneficial.

Sometimes you also indulge in group tasks, it teaches you how to


coordinate and achieve desired goals. Sometimes because of change of
thoughts among group members there comes inconvenience, which is to be
solved calmly and positively.

So, overall, internship plays an important role in teaching and helping us in


learning a lot of practical knowledge.
CHALLENGES
There were many challenges which we faced while doing internship, some
of them are:-

 Customer satisfaction
 Learning product information/features.
 Specifications related to the product
 Convincing the customers
 Healthy relationship between customer and seller
 Communication problems
 Performance issues
 Issues with time management/self-management
 Hesitate to ask questions
 Competitive co-interns

These are the common internship challenges that we faced while doing
internship there. But if you really dig into it, they aren’t that grave or
unsolvable. Adjusting into a new place is always difficult, but if you are
patient enough, you can overcome challenges within no time. And after
adjusting their slowly we were able to overcome these challenges and were
able to get familiar with the tasks provided to us.
SUGGESTION
Internship benefits both the student and the employer. Students benefit by
applying their classroom learning in the real world. Employers benefit by
gaining enthusiastic workers – perhaps for an internship, perhaps longer –
along with the satisfaction of launching a career.

Specifically, consider these suggestions:


 Assuming that interns have zero work experience. The internship is
intended as a pre –entry level work opportunity.

 Work assignments should be suitable for the interns’ skills and


timeframe.

 Give feedback to interns on a regular basis. The majority of interns are


not yet comfortable working on their own, so they need feedback.
Some want it on a daily basis, but most will be satisfied with weekly
feedback. Feedback need not come from the manager; a senior
specialist can usually provide it. Mentors can also provide on-going
feedback.

 Make sure interns work on-site, participate in meetings, and have all
the resources to do their jobs.

 Time duration of the internship should be increased so that students


can experience more and learn more. It takes time to understand the
working of an organization
CONCLUSION
In review this internship has been an excellent and rewarding experience. I
have been able to meet and communicate with so many people that I am
sure it will help me with opportunities in the future.

The report includes all the learning during my on-job training as an intern in
