Narrative text

Narrative text adalah suatu jenis teks yang berupa cerita khayalan, kisah nyata yang direkayasa, atau dongeng.
Narrative text menceritakan suatu cerita yang memiliki rangkaian peristiwa kronologis yang saling terhubung.
Tujuan dari narrative text adalah untuk menghibur pembacanya.

B. Struktur teks (generic structure).

Adapun struktur dari narrative text adalah sebagai berikut:

 Orientation: pendahuluan atau pembuka yang berupa pengenalan tokoh, waktu, dan tempat.
 Complication: pengembangan konflik atau pemunculan masalah pada cerita.
 Resolution: penyelesaian konflik atau langkah yang diambil untuk merespons masalah.
 Re-orientation: ungkapan – ungkapan penutup yang menunjukan berakhirnya suatu cerita. Re-orientation
bersifat opsional atau tidak selalu ada pada narrative text.
 Coda: perubahan yang terjadi pada tokoh dan pelajaran/ nilai moral yang bisa dipetik dari cerita. Coda juga
bersifat opsional.

The Monkeys and The Cap Seller

Once, a cap seller was passing through a jungle. He was very tired and needed to rest. Then, he stopped and spread a
cloth under a tree. He placed his bag full of caps near him and lay down with his cap on his head. The cap seller had
a sound sleep for one hour. When he got up, the first thing he did was to look into his bag. He was startled when he
found all his caps were not there.When he looked up the sky, he was very surprised to see monkeys sitting on the
branches of a tree, each of the monkeys is wearing a cap of on its head. They had evidently done it to imitate him.
He decided to get his caps back by making a humble request to the monkeys. In return, the monkeys only made
faces of him. When he begun to make gesture, the monkeys also imitated him.At last, he found a clever idea. ”
Monkeys are a great imitator,” he thought. So he took off his own cap and threw it down on the ground. And as he
had expected, all the monkeys took off the caps and threw the caps down on the ground. Quickly, he stood up and
collected the caps, put them back into his bag and went away.

1. Snow White

(Orientation)
Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Snow White. She lived with her Aunt and Uncle because her parents
were dead.

(Complication)
One day she heard her Uncle and Aunt talking about leaving Snow White in the castle because they both wanted to
go to America and they didn’t have enough money to take Snow White.

Snow White did not want her Uncle and Aunt to do this so she decided it would be best if she ran away. The next
morning she ran away from home when her Aunt and Uncle were having breakfast. She ran away into the woods.

(Resolution)
Then she saw this little cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and fell asleep.

Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There they found Snow White
sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said, “what is your name?” Snow White said,
“My name is Snow White.”
Doc, one of the dwarfs, said, “If you wish, you may live here with us.” Snow White said, “Oh could I? Thank you.”
Then Snow White told the dwarfs the whole story and finally Snow White and the 7 dwarfs lived happily ever after.

2. Three Fishes

(Orientation)
Once, three fishes lived in a pond. One evening, some fishermen passed by the pond and saw the fishes. 'This pond
is full of fish', they told each other excitedly. 'We have never fished here before. We must come back tomorrow
morning with our nets and catch these fish!' Then the fishermen left.

(Complication)
When the eldest of the three fishes heard this, he was troubled. He called the other fishes together and said, 'Did you
hear what the fishermen said? We must leave this pond at once. The fishermen will return tomorrow and kill us all!'
The second of the three fishes agreed. 'You are right', he said. 'We must leave the pond.'

But the youngest fish laughed. 'You are worrying without reason', he said. 'We have lived in this pond all our lives,
and no fisherman has ever come here. Why should these men return? I am not going anywhere - my luck will keep
me safe.'

(Resolution)
The eldest of the fishes left the pond that very evening with his entire family. The second fish saw the fishermen
coming in the distance early next morning and left the pond at once with all his family. The third fish refused to
leave even then.

The fishermen arrived and caught all the fish left in the pond. The third fish's luck did not help him - he too was
caught and killed.

(Coda)
The fish who saw trouble ahead and acted before it arrived as well as the fish who acted as soon as it came both
survived. But the fish who relied only on luck and did nothing at all died. So also in life.

Procedure text
“Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a sequence of actions or
steps”. Jadi yang dimaksud dengan procedure text adalah sebuah genre of text yang berfungsi untuk
menggambarkan bagaimana sesuatu dilakukan atau dicapai melalui urutan tindakan atau langkah yang benar.

B. Tujuan Procedure TextTujuan komunikatif dari procedure text adalah bagaimana seorang penulis mampu
memahamkan pembaca tentang cara melakukan, menyelesaikan atau mencapai sesuatu dengan cara yang runtut dan
benar atau prosedural.

Contoh 1: How to Make a Milkshake

A milkshake is a sweet, cold beverage which is usually made from milk, ice cream, or iced milk, and flavorings or
sweeteners such as butterscotch, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, or fruit syrup. If you want to make a delicious
milkshake by your selves, then this is the way how to make it.

The ingredients that you need to make a milkshake are:

 4 cups vanilla ice cream

 2 cups milk
 4 teaspoons chocolate sauce (optional)
  1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries

Now, follow these steps to make a milkshake.

1. Place milkshake glasses into the freezer. Using cold glasses will help the shake stay cool to give you time
to enjoy. Leave for up to an hour if possible.
2. Soften ice cream. It is easier to make a shake when the ice cream is slightly soft. Take the ice cream out of
the freezer a few minutes before making your shake.
3. Place the ingredients into a blender. Mix the ice cream, milk and added flavors into the blender. Blend on
high for one minute. Don’t leave in the blender for longer or the shake will melt quickly.
4. Pour shakes into frosty glasses. Take the glasses out of the freezer as soon as the blending is complete.
Then pour the shake mixture in.
5. Drop a straw into the shake, then enjoy. You can sip a shake right from the glass but somehow the straw
adds to the flavor and the experience.

If you do not have a blender, you may substitute with a mixer, but be careful as it could be messy. And if you do not
have anything else to mix, just use a spoon, but let the ice cream thaw first to make the milkshake easier to mix.

I parked my motorcycle at the parking area and I walked slowly at the hall of the theatre.I took my ticket on my
wallet and go to the information section to ask about how to use the ticket that day. Unfortunately, I missed it. The
ticket was already expired 2 days before.

I went home and I was very disappointed about that.

2.Orientation

Three days ago, I went to the traditional market to buy some fruits and vegetables.In that market, I saw an accident,
there was a thief beaten by a lot of people. It was so terrible. I didn’t want to take closer and see.A few minutes later,
police came and took him.

Event

I asked to the fruit seller what had happened actually and she said that the thief tried to steal someone’s wallet but he
was unlucky.Someone saw him and shouted loudly and suddenly some people roughed him up hardly.

It was a pity event and I hoped it would never happen again.

3.Orientation

Two days ago I went to the Merapi Mountain. It was the first time I climbed the mountain. I did it with some of my
friends.We start climbing at 8 p.m. It was so dark and we only used flashlight to get the way.I felt no worry because
all of my friends were professional climber. I just followed their instruction.

Event

We climbed slowly and enjoy the night there.After 7 hours walking in the dark, we could reach the top of the
mountain. It was at 3 a.m. early in the morning.We were not alone. There were a lot of people who reached that top
before us.We waited the sun rises by cooking some food and making some hot drink to get back our energy. We
sang some songs together, shared stories and got acquainted with people there.After seeing the sun raised, we had to
go back home. Getting down the mountain was not as hard as the climbing process because we only spent a few
energy and time even we had to be more careful to do this process.However, it was great experience i had ever done
so far.
Reorientation

After all, that was my great experience I had ever have.

B. Tujuan Penulisan Report Text

Tujuan penulisan report Text adalah menyampaikan atau menyajikan informasi tentang sesuatu, apa adanya, sebagai
hasil pengamatan sistematis yang mendalam tentang objek tertenu. Segala jenis objek bisa ditulisan dapat meliputi
gejala alami, lingkungan, benda buatan manusia, atau gejala-gejala sosial.

Cats

Cats also called the domestic cat or house cat (with its scientific name: Felis silvestris catus or Felis catus) is a type
of carnivorous mammal of the family Felidae. The word "cat" generally refers to a "cat" that has been tamed, but can
also refer to the "big cats" such as lions and tigers.

Cats are considered as "perfect carnivore" with teeth and particular digestive tract. The first premolar and molar
teeth form a pair of fangs on each side of the mouth that works effectively as a pair of scissors to tear the meat.
Although these features also exist in the Canidae or dog, but these traits are better developed in cats. Unlike other
carnivores, cats eat almost non vegetable substance. Bears and dogs sometimes eat berries, roots, or honey as a
supplement, while cats only eat meat, usually freshly killed prey. In captivity, cats can not adapt to a vegetarian diet
because they can not synthesize all the amino acids they need from plant material; it is in contrast with domesticated
dogs, which commonly are fed a mixture of meat and vegetables and sometimes it can adapt to a completely
vegetarian meal.

Cats have mingled with human life since at least 6000 BC, from the skeleton of the cat found on the island of
Cyprus. The ancient Egyptians of 3500 BC have used cats to keep away the rats or other rodents from the barn
where the crops were saved.Currently, the cat is one of the most popular pet in the world. Cats that his lines are
recorded officially as a cat breeds or pure breed are Persian, Siamese, Manx, and the sphinx. These kinds of cat are
usually bred in official captivity animal. The number of purebred cat is only 1% of all cats in the world; the rest is a
cat with mixed ancestry such as wild cats or domestic cats.
Cow

Cows are cattle which belong to Bovidae famil and Bovinae upafamili. Cows that have been neutered and are
typically used to plow the field named Ox. Cows are cared primarily for the benefit of milk and meat as human food.

Cows have a scientific name as Bos Taurus. Cows have a gestation period of over 274 days. Average cow lifespans
is 15 years. The male weight is typically around 1,100 kg, while average females’ weight is about 720 kg.

Mobile Phone

A mobile phone (also known as a wireless phone, or cellular telephone) is a very small portable radio telephone.

The mobile phone can be used to communicate over long distances without wires. It works by communicating with a
nearby base station (also called a "cell site") which connects it to the main phone network. As the mobile phone
moves around, if the mobile phone gets too far away from the cell it is connected to, that cell sends a message to
another cell to tell the new cell to take over the call. This is called a "hand off," and the call continues with the new
cell the phone is connected to. The hand-off is done so well and carefully that the user will usually never even know
that the call was transferred to another cell.

As mobile phones became more popular, they began to cost less money, and more people could afford them.
Monthly plans became available for rates as low as US$30 or US$40 a month. Cell phones have become so cheap to
own that they have mostly replaced pay phones and phone booths except for urban areas with many people.
