engine.
10. For same compression ratio which is more efficient between the petrol and diesel engine?
Ans – diesel engine.
11. What is metacenter?
Ans- The intersection of vertical lines through the center of buoyancy of a floating body when it
is at equilibrium and when it is floating at an angle.
12. Write down the difference between drilling and boring.
Ans- Drilling is used for make a hole Boring is used for make the hole enlargement.
13. What is the center of pressure and center of gravity?
Ans- center of pressure:a point on a surface through which the resultant force due to pressure
passes. center of gravity: a point from which the weight of a body or system may be considered
to act. In uniform gravity it is the same as the centre of mass.

14. Define black body with diagram.

Ans- a hypothetical perfect absorber and radiator of energy, with no reflecting power.
15. Write down the difference sources of energy
. Ans- Solar energy , Nuclear energy ,Wind energy Water energy, potential energy, Electrical
energy.
16. Define welding.
Ans- It is material joining process in which two or more material are coalesced at their
contacting surface by a suitable application of heat or pressure, in some welding process filler
metal is added.
17. Define impulse turbine.
Ans- a turbine that is driven by jets direct against the blades
18. Why Carnot cycle is not feasible in actual practice?
Ans – The Carnot cycle is not feasible in actual practice because it is impossible to eliminate the
friction of all metals.
19. Write down the general gas equations.
Ans- Pv=mRt
20. Distinguish between a water tube and fire tube boiler.
Ans- A fire tube boiler- In a fire tube boiler, the flames and hot gas produced by combustion of
fuel through the tube and surrounded by the water. A water tube boiler- in a water tubes boiler,
the water contains the tube and the flame and hot gas is surrounded the outsides.
21. What is gas turbine and what type of fuels is used in it.
Ans- Gas turbine- a gas turbine generated the power, due to its low capital cost it is most
probably reasonable there are many types of fuel is used like Solid ………….. Coal
Liquid………….water, Natural……. Gas.
22. What is mass transfer?
Ans – This process of transfer of mass as a result of the species concentration difference in a
system/ mixture is called mass transfer.
23. Write down the relation between absolute, gauge and atmospheric pressure.
Ans – Absolute Pressure= Atmospheric pressure + Gauge pressure.
24. When central conditioning is used?
Ans – when a large amount of space required to control by air condition.
25. What is the efficiency of a cycle?
Ans – The efficiency of a Carnot cycle is Efficiency = e-1/(p2/p1)K-1/k
26. What is the main difference between vapor compression and vapor absorption refrigeration?
Ans - Vapor compression refrigeration – In vapor compression refrigeration is used compression,
high COP, High center of gravity. Vapor absorption refrigeration- in vapor absorption
refrigeration is used compression instead of low COP, Low center of gravity.
27. Write down the name of some commonly used refrigerant.
Ans – NH3,Co2,Freon,R22
28. Why supercharger is used in an engine?
Ans – Used for better efficiency.
29. What is Kirchhoff’s law?
Ans – The Kirchhoff’s law is- The ratio of emissive power and the absorptive of all is the same
and is equal to the emissive power.
30. What is ton of refrigeration? Ans – The standard unit of refrigeration is ton of refrigeration
(TR) one TR is equivalent to the production of cold at the rate at which heat is to be removed
from one US ton of water at 0 degree c in 24 hours.
31. Define laminar flow and turbulent flow. Ans - Laminar flow- is an uninterrupted flow in a
fluid near a solid boundary in which the direction of flow at every point remains constant.
Turbulent flow- a fluid flow in which the velocity at a given point varies erratically in magnitude
and direction.
32. What is CNG? Ans-CNG= Conversion of Natural Gas.
33. What is a project? Ans- An individual or collaborative enterprise, planned and designed to
achieve an aim.
34. Which is more efficient: a steam turbine or gas turbine? Ans- Steam turbine is more efficient.
35. Why reciprocating pump is called positive displacement pump? Ans - as it discharge a
definite quantity of Liquid during the Displacement of its Piston.
36. What is a combined cycle power plant? Ans - In electric power generation a combined cycle
is an assembly of heat engines that work in tandem from the same source of heat, converting it
into mechanical energy, which in turn usually drives electrical generators.
37. Define casting. Ans- an object made by pouring molten metal or other material into a mould.
38. What is the difference between saturated steam and superheated steam? Ans – Saturated
steam is steam that is created in an environment in which gas and liquids can both exits- it has
not been heated past water’s boiling point at that pressure. When a boiler comes equipped with a
superheated, you have the option of turning saturated steam into superheated steam. This
happens when you increase the temperature of the saturated steam.
39. What is the basic difference between steel and cast iron? Ans - Cast iron is basically high
carbon iron casting with% carbon of 3.3 & and high silicon content of 3.7% or more, while cast
steel is basically low carbon steel casting with 0.3 to 0.5 % carbon and silicon content of not
more than 0.75 %
40. What do you understand by C.O.P of refrigeration and C.O.P of heat pump? Ans- C.O.P of
heat pump - A heat pump is a device that provides heat energy from a source of heat to a
destination called a "heat sink". C.O.P of refrigeration- The coefficient of performance or COP
(sometimes CP) of a heat pump is a ratio which means that a separate machine is needed for
producing hot tap water.
41. How the fluid pressure is measured?
Ans- The simplest method of measuring the pressure of a fluid in a pipe is to use a piezometer
("pressure measuring") tube.
