CLA Research &

Thesis Grant
by the Arts College Government
What is it?
The CLA Research and Thesis Grant is an initiative that
seeks to help deserving undergraduate thesis groups of the
college in concretizing their research ideas. After two years
of conceptualizing and lobbying, the Arts College
Government has finally acquired funding for this endeavor
courtesy of the Parents of University Student
Organizations (PUSO).
OBJECTIVE
➔ To provide financial assistance to deserving
undergraduate thesis groups in the college
➔ To promote a culture of research that would
empower Liberal Arts students to address
pressing global and societal issues and
concerns
PHP 100,000
Funding from PUSO.
MECHANICS
Who can apply?

Any undergraduate thesis group from


the College of Liberal Arts.
Dates to Remember
Deadline of Application:
April 7, 2018 (Saturday)

Release of results for Preliminary Selection:


4th week of April

Release of results for Final Selection:


2nd week of May
2 GRANT
CATEGORIES.
20K Grant.
10K Grant.
PHASE 1
APPLICATION.
Each thesis group must submit the following requirements:

➔ Application Form
➔ Research Proposal (to be appended to the Application Form)
- Chapters 1 to 3
- Cost Proposal of the thesis
➔ 2 Recommendation Letters (one from Thesis Mentor and one from
any faculty from their department)

A General Orientation would be conducted for all applicants.


Attendance is a must.
PHASE 2
PRELIMINARY SELECTION.

THE APPLICATIONS

WOULD BE THEN

THE DEPARTMENT
FOR EACH GRANT
CHAIR OF THE
CATEGORY.
THESIS GROUP.
Criteria
❏ Technical Aspect.
Overall, the research proposal must be well-written, extensive
and cohesively written --- 20%
Chapter 1: Introduction --- 10%
Chapter 2: Review of Related Literature --- 15%
Chapter 3: Methodology --- 15%
Criteria
❏ Relevance and Impact.
The thesis must be able to contribute to the existing body of
knowledge of the proponent’s respective field --- 20%
While at the same time, the study should must greatly tackle
pressing societal issues and concerns --- 20%
PHASE 3
FINAL SELECTION.
Applications that have passed the Preliminary Selection Round
would be then forwarded to the Final Selection Committee would
be composed of CLA professors who have shown expertise in the
field of research. The same criteria would be utilized in this round.
This would be chaired by the College Dean.

8 Grants would be given by the Committee - two 20K and six 10K
Grants.
PHASE 4
AWARDING.
An Awarding Ceremony would be held for the chosen grantees.
MOAs would also be signed during this occasion. The Dean,
Vice-Dean and the Department Chairs would be invited.
PHASE 5
FOLLOW-UP.
After finishing their thesis during Term 3, the grantees would be
asked to submit the following:

➔ Progress Report
➔ Proof of Purchases and/or Billing Statements (Receipts)

This is to ensure transparency and that the funds given are being
maximized by the grantees.
