ABSTRACT

In the partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Bachelor of
Education in English the second Teaching Practice was done at Kabompo Secondary School
in Kabombo in the North Western Province of Zambia for a period of twelve weeks from 7 th
September to 27th November 2015.

I was exposed to three major teaching and learning areas namely: lesson preparation and
delivery, exam preparation and correction and preparation of learning and teaching aids. I was
tasked to teach Literature in English and English Language.

10 hours per week was spent on active teaching, 120 hours on teaching. Approximately 220
hours were spent on lesson preparation (.i.e. lesson planning, study and recording work done).
10 hours was dedicated to preparing tests, marking keys and exercises. Other activities done
included marking tests and exercises, preparing low cost learning and teaching aids, attending
staff meetings and collecting data.

The third term being an exam term the school does not plan for so many extra-curricular
activities due to time and because the facilities are used by the exam classes for exams.
Regardless, I took part in organizing debate competitions to select the junior and senior school
team. The experience was fruitful as the objectives were achieved.
