B. Review
Last meeting we discuss
Software for Educators and
Students.

Again, who can provide me the

two types of software? System Software and
Application Software Teacher!

Very good! What is System

Software? System Software consists of
that controls the operations of
the computer and its devices.

Amazing! What is Operating

System then? Operating System is one type
of system software which
contains instructions that
coordinate all of the activities
of the computer hardware
devices.

Incredible! So give me the

different Operating System? Stand Alone Operating
Systems and Embedded
Operating Systems.

Marvelous! How about, give me

examples of stand-alone
operating system. Windows and MAC OS X
Teacher!

Excellent! You remember

System Software, how about
Application Software? Application Software allows
performing specific tasks like
writing documents, making
project presentations, video
recording and many others.

Exceptional! What are its Types?

Types of Software
Applications
1. Instructional Software
2. Tutorial Software
3. Drill and Practice Software
4. Simulations
5. Instructional Games
6. Problem Solving Software
7. Special Needs Software

Remarkable! I’m sure you can

still all remember our past
lesson.

C. Motivation
Before we proceed for today’s
topic why don’t we exercise our
mind first and get energized
with these tiny papers.

The title of this game is

“Intertalaktik Q&A”

Mechanics of the Activity:

1. I will pick among the
attendance.
2. Whoever will be picked
will answer what is flash
on the TV screen.

a. Law of Exercise Drill and Practice Software

b. World Like Scenario Simulation Software
c. Practice Skills Instructional Software
d. Solution Finding Problem-Solving Software
e. Offers pre-test and post- Tutorial Software
test

D. Presentation
What is it that you formed on
the word/s that I gave you? Instructional Software for
Classroom Use

Astonishing! You’re right about that.

That will bring us to our new topic

which is Instructional Software for
Classroom Use.

Instructional Software is defined as

computer programs designed to
deliver instruction or to assist in the
delivery of instruction on a specific
topic.

This type of software’s sole purpose

is to support instruction and/of
learning. Sir! Is Tutorial is an example of
Instructional Software?

No, but Tutorial Software is a type

of Instructional Software. Along
with it are the following.

1. Drill and Practice

Software
2. Simulation Software
3. Instructional Software
4. Problem-solving
Software.

Let’s first discuss Drill and Practice

Software.

This allows learners to work

problems or answer question and
get feedback and correctness.

It also provides opportunities for

students to work on problems or
examples one at a time and then
receive feedback on their
performance. Just Dance Sir!

Surprising! That’s one example. In

Just dance, you will dance and the
monitor will give you feedbacks if
you did the moves wrong or correct.

Another is an app called Khan

Academy. You solve problems in
this application and then you will
receive feedbacks. The feedback is
either good or bad. It depends upon
your answers.
Can you give me an example of Drill
and Practice Software? Other examples of Drill and
Practice Software
1. Typer Shark
2. Online Flashcards
Very good! And now let’s witness
your classmates dance. I will pick
from the basket and the chosen one
will dance here in front and you will
give feedback by raising the placard
I gave you earlier.

The benefits are the following:

1. Immediate Feedback
2. Motivation
3. Saving Teacher Time

Can you read the limitations and

problems of Drill and Practice
Software. It also have limitations and
problems:
1. Perceived Misuse
2. Criticism by
Constructiveness

The second one is TUTORIAL

SOFTWARE.

It acts like human tutor by

providing the all information and
instructional activities a learner
needs to master a topic,
information, summaries,
explanation, practice routine,
feedback and assessment. In Youtube Sir! There are so
many tutorial videos that you
can watch and it’s useful.

Very good. Let’s give this pupil a

clap. That’s the best example in
Tutorial Software.

That’s why everyone, let’s try this

one.
(Youtube Videos Tutoring)

What do you think is the benefit of

Tutorial Software? The benefits of Tutorial are
to Drill and Practice.

Limitations and Problems:

1. Criticism by Constructivism.
2. Reflect only one instructional
approach.
3. Lack of good products.
Next is SIMULATION SOFTWARE.

It is an educational software tools

that stimulate the live learning
experience of the students.

It is an imaginary system to show

how those systems or similar ones
work or demonstrate underlying
concept. I have a software Sir that I can
drive Airplanes and big trucks.

Oh yes! There are applications that

you can experience. It feels like you
are driving for example a car or a
big truck.

Let’s watch this everyone.

(Videos showing a student driving a
ship using the simulation room)

Benefits of Simulation Software:

1. Compress Time
2. Slow Down Process
3. Get Students Involved
4. Make Experimentation of
Software
5. Make the Impossible Possible
6. Save Money and other
Resources
7. Allow Repetition With
Variations
8. Allow Observation of Complex
Process. Is Virtual Reality Sir an
example of Simulation
Software?

That’s a very nice question since it

is very popular nowadays. Yes!
Virtual Reality is an example of
Simulation Software because it let
you experience something live.

How about the limitations and

problems of Simulation? Limitations and Problems:
1. Criticism of Virtual Lab
Software
2. Accuracy Model
3. Misuse of Simulations

INSTRUCTIONAL GAMES –
Increases motivation by adding
game rules and/or competition to
learning activities to drill.
Benefits of Instructional Games:
1. Games are more interesting that
traditional instruction.
2. Retention of information is
longer.
3. Assist teachers to get students to
focus on the topic.
4. Make learning more engaging
and motivation.

Limitations and Problems:

1. Learning versus having fun.
2. Confusion of game rules and real
life rules.
3. Classroom barriers. But teaching and learning
process must be fun so how can
it affect the learning?

That’s right children. But we need

know our limitations. It is not all
about having fun but we must still
think the learning and outcomes.

Before we precede to the last

Software. Let’s play a game first.

It is called. Drag the letter.

Last is PROBLEM-SOLVING
SOFTWARE.

It teaches directly the steps involve

in solving problems.

Helps learner acquire problem-

solving skills by giving them
opportunities to solve problem.

What are the benefits of Problem

Solving Software? Benefits of Problem-solving
Software:
1. Promotes visualization
in mathematics problem
solving.
2. Foster better
understanding in
visualization of abstract
concepts.
3. Improves interest and
motivation in doing
problem solving
activities.

Limitations and Problems:

1. Effectiveness of problem-solving
software
2. Suitability in learning of
students.

Before we end this discussion let’s

first solve this.

(I will flash a problem and the

students will solve the problem)
