INTOY THE MERMAN OF MARINERS' STREET

In Cavite, there is a place called Kalye Marino. This is where Intoy and his fellow
mates, Bertong Baka, Yeyeng Tikol, Boyet Bagol and Doray Langaw are placed, with Mang
Amor as Intoy's boss.
Intoy, the main character, was abandoned by his mother while his father was
deceased so he lived at his mate, Berto.
Intoy was working at Mang Amor by cleaning and harvesting the mussels on the
pabitin and palutang of his boss. Also, Mang Amor doesn't know that his companion, Intoy,
secretly has its own corral. He hid it purposedly, so that Mang Amor wouldn't think and say bad
things to him like accusing him of stealing of wires from him for building his own mussels farm.
Intoy is the most expert on cleaning and harvesting mussels. This is his job since he
learned how to swim. The Money he was earning from it are well spent to Doray Langaw. He is
helping Doray and her siblings for everyday living to lift Doray and her siblings to the poverty.
And also Intoy has a secret love to Doray since childhood but he can't confess his feelings
towards her because of the what if Doray doesn't have the same feeling as his to her.
One day the alig came up, it is a disaster that could lose their mussel. So from the
beginning of the story, Mang Amor hurriedly waked Intoy so that they could harvest immediately
and saved the mussles from the pest. But they failed, Mang Amor Palutang and Pabitin mussels
are all dead. Intoy also visited his own farm when he had the opportunity when Mang Amor
leave, but when he get there, he also had nothing. He immediately returned after to where he
been placed. Sad day for Intoy, he badly needs money but ended up nothing.
As time passes, everyone had to face development challenges. When Intoy was a child,
his friend called him as Intoy Kuting because he doesn't know how to swim. He was bullied by
his own friends that led him to get the courage and determination to study swimming and time
passed by, it was changed to Intoy Syokoy because he already learned how to swim and that
makes him to be the best swimmer in Kalye Marino.
Doray Langaw, a poor and uneducated girl. Become a mother and father to her
siblings when their parents leave. She had no choice but to sell her body or become a
prostitute so that she can support her siblings and for everyday needs. Most of the time
when the fisherman of the basnig came to Kalye Marino are her targets. Even though,
the price was getting lower, Doray still go for it.
Yeyeng Tikol is the smartest and educated of them all but ended up being
destroyed because of what happened to his father awful death. After that, he started
taking shabu or drugs. He also replaced his name as his real name which Ariel Burat.
Bertong Baka, it is said that he was the most strongest. He is the best in
terms of performance on something.

And lastly, Boyet Bagol, famous for being a thief that he was often got punched by
the people in town. And the last news to him is that he got caught and putted in jail in
Manila.
Moreover, Just like other teenager, we can't avoid to feel or seek for the love to
opposite sex. As mention above, Intoy has a secret feelings to Doray, that even though Doray is
selling his body to every other men, Intoy stays and still want and love Dora because of all the
good things Doray gave to Intoy. With the push of their other friends so that they can make it to
end.
But as obviously stated above some didn't able to resolve what they have been through
because they are emotionally carried away and chooses to have a wreckless life.
The nature has a big factor on every teenager development, they are dependent on it, the
nature where they in, also reflects on how they act and handle life. So every teenager need the
nurture and have good nature they deserve, it helps them to be a better individual that will help
for the progress and development of the country.

In real life events, we all know that here in Philippines, most or some people are not
financially stable and deprived of opportunity so sometimes we have no choice but to look for
money by doing things that is risky and illegal. In text, the main job it to be a mussels caretaker,
but Intoy is the only make it and the other who aren't doing their best to survive well, will ended
up empty . And so, I realize that I should work so hard so that I could survive every trials that will
come into my life. Think positive and have determination to be a successful individual.
