(Supplementary Problems)
RESULTANT AND EQUILIBRIUM OF COPLANAR FORCE SYSTEMS
❖ CONCURENT FORCES
❖ PARALLEL FORCES
❖ NON CONCURRENT/NON – PARALLEL FORCES
❖ FORCE –COUPLE TRANSFORMATION

PROBLEM 1. Determine the resultant moment about

point A of the system of forces shown in the figure.

PROBLEM 6. The bell crank shown is supported by a bearing at A. A

load of 100 N force is applied vertically at C, rotation being
prevented by the force P acting at B. Compute the value of P and
the bearing reaction at A.

PROBLEM 2. The three step pulley shown is subjected to

the given couples. Compute the value of the resultant
couple. Also determine the forces acting at the rim of the
middle pulley that are required to balance the given
system

PROBLEM 7 The fink truss shown is supported by a roller at A and

a hinge at B. The given loads are normal to the incline. Determine
the reactions at A and B.

PROBLEM 3. Replace the system of forces shown acting

on the frame by a resultant R at A and a couple acting
horizontally through B and C

PROBLEM 8
Three forces are acting per foot length on the dam as shown.
a. Determine the resultant of the loads and its intersection with the
base AB.
b. Determine the maximum and minimum ground reaction at the
base. (Heel and Toe of the dam base)

PROBLEM 4 The unstretched length of spring AB is 2 m. If

the block is held in equilibrium position shown, determine
the mass of the block at D.

PROBLEM 9
The weight W of a traveling crane is 20 tons acting as shown. To
prevent the crane from tipping to the right when carrying a load P
of 20 tons, a counterweight Q is used. Determine the value and
position of Q so that the crane will remain in equilibrium both
when the maximum load P is applied and when load P is removed.

PROBLEM 5. A system of cords knotted together at A and

B support the weight shown. Compute the tensions P, Q, F
and T acting in the various cords.
