INTRODUCTION

The Project entitled ‘WE MEAN TO CLEAN’ focuses on

making the children of the village aware about the
cleanliness and all the issues related to it , it’s good
effects and how a clean environment help us in many
aspects of life.
I chose the school ‘UPS Shahpur-Lalpur’ because it
provided me a healthy and a proper environment to
interact with the students and helps me in performing
various physical activities with the students that can
make them understand the effectiveness of cleaning
more rather than providing them with just some
theoretical knowledge.
The students were actually not aware about the
consequences of poor cleanliness in their daily lifestyle
and also around their environment , On the very first
when I tried to check whether they had knowledge of
the same it left me quite shocked that they did not had
any.
Since most of the children studying in that school were
between 10-15 hence it became more important to guide
them in a proper direction so that they can be a good
citizen of our country and a savior for this constantly
perishing planet.
In particular I chose that school because the Village in
which they were living did not have a proper waste
collection and also the Gram Sabha of that village
did not provide any facility for door to door waste
collection vehicle like we have in towns or cities and
even some of the houses does not have a toilet and hence
I felt that they worth needed to be taught about
cleanliness rather than a city boy who has some kind of a
knowledge about cleanliness through their fully
knowledge teachers and a municipal corporation
constantly working for the same.
Since these students were from a humble background
hence they were not aware about technology and how
these small gadgets like mobile phones or electrical and
analog sensors can help them improve their lifestyle for
better.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION AND THE
CAUSE FOR THE PROBLEM
That problem that arises here is the constantly decreasing
health and nutrition of our younger generation
REASONS/ CAUSES:-
 IMPROPER PARENTING
Since most of the villages in India still do not have a
exposure to proper knowledge hence the parents of the
children are also not aware about the consequences of an
unhealthy and an insanitary environment.

 UNSKILLED TEACHERS
As most of the government schools in India have
teachers that are admitted on the basis of the marks
they have scored in their entrance exam hence teachers
sometimes indulge in illegal ways to get themselves
admitted into these schools being unworthy. Hence
they are not able to make these children aware about
the consequences of cleanliness in their environment.

 UNWILLING GOVERNMENT
The government system in India has been sardonically
working on the betterment of the lifestyle of our
villages and to join them into the mainstream
development that the big cities in India have been
constantly in.
Hence still after 72 years of Independence the villages in
India has not changed much which affect them due to
change in lifestyle and sanitary condition throughout the
planet.
Also due to the above mentioned role of our government
the villages well and truly lacks in terms of technology.
OBJECTIVE TO BE ACHIEVED
The main objectives of this project are:-
1. To make these village children aware about the global
changes in lifestyle and environment.
2. To make them aware about the importance and
consequences of a clean and healthy environment
around them.
3. To provide these children a basic knowledge of this
growing technology and how this ‘claimed friend’ which
has become our biggest foe and be transmuted into a
friend.
4. To help them in learning personal hygiene through
daily cleaning activities.
5. To introduce them to pollution due to technology and
industry and to make them aware about the same.
6. To conduct an awareness campaign in the village about
the issue of cleanliness and to encourage the parents to
send their wards to schools.
7. To make them aware about some ongoing governmental
policies related to cleaning and some awareness
campaigns run by NGOs.
STEPS TAKEN TO ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVE
 First of all I tried to outreach into their minds to get a
proper idea of their current knowledge about
cleanliness and technology.
 So after gaining their current status of knowledge I
divided my project into 3 phases which are:-
 Phase 1
In phase 1, for the first day I introduced myself to
everyone in the school and tried to explain the objectives
and purpose of my working in the school.
I decided to provide them with the theoretical knowledge
about the concepts of cleanliness and the growing
advancements in the field of technology and how these
small technical devices can help them in improving their
lifestyle and environment around them.
For the first 5 days we came across different concepts
related to pollution like:-
 Types of pollution and its origin.
 Proper sewage system.
 Use of toilets and its ill effects.
 Need of proper disposal of household waste.
 An Introduction to the technology.
 Tree plantation and its good effects.
 Concept of automated sensing dustbin.
 Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by Indian Government.

 Phase 2
In phase 2, I tried to indulge the students into various
physical activities to provide them the practical knowledge
and encouraged them to implement the theoretical
knowledge that they have gained in their classes.
Since most of the government schools in India provide
Mid-Day meals to these students hence the students had a
habit of rushing to their plates and started eating without
even washing their plates or their hands.
So I made it mandatory for these students to wash their
hands as well as their plates before taking their meal.
For the first few days I helped them, but once they became
aware about all the good effects of it they started taking it as
a fun activity.
Here I would also like to thank a teacher ‘Akansha
Upadhyay’ who helped me in maintaining an eye on the
food that is being served through mid-day meal and to
create a one on one interaction with every student during
the course of my entire project.
On each day I used to check the cleanliness of the school’s
kitchen as well as the hygiene of the cooks working in the
kitchen.
We also with the help of the Head Master of the school tried
to plant as much trees as possible.

 Phase 3:-
In phase 3, I mostly tried to interact with the students
about their understandings of what I have taught till
now and the steps that they have taken to ensure
cleanliness in their homes or around it.
Also during the last days of my working in the school, I
tried to teach them the subjects that are included in their
syllabus for e.g. Physics, English, history, Mathematics.
We also conducted a campaign with the help of teachers
and students to encourage the families living in that
village to send their wards to the school so that they can
be made aware about all these issue as well as help them
to be a good citizen for their village.
Also In the end, We played some outdoor games like
‘kabbadi’ and ‘kho-kho’ to entertain as well as to
encourage them to keep themselves fit.
Also, We distributed prizes to the winners in the games
to encourage them in taking parts in these activities.
Also during last days of my project, I visited the K.G
classes in the school and tried to have an interaction
with them and taught them as well.
EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROJECT
From the beginning of the project i.e; from 1stJuly 2019 to
20th July 2019 we easily came across about 120 students
studying in the junior section and about 100 students from
the primary section. Instead of providing them just
theoretical knowledge I insisted on practical implementation
of what I taught them. Also We played games as well hence
the students never felt that they were to study any subject.
We also came about 30 odd families during our rally across
the village who were ready to send their children to the
schools who have been working under poor health condition
for a daily wage of around 200 rupees.
Also the school campus didn’t had a lot of plants or trees,
hence we managed to plant about 20 to 25 plants across the
school campus as well.
The Kitchen staff of the school also started taking a bit more
consciousness in serving the food after I informed them
about the usage of hand wash and serving in clean utensils
.Teachers in the school also started washing their hands
before they take their lunch as well the students made
awareness about the impact of cleanliness within their
homes as well.
CONCLUSION
“If each person would sweep before his own house, the
city would soon be clean”. Taking this Polish proverb as my
inspiration I would like to conclude my project.
Through this service to our society, I have increased the
consignment of knowledge these students have. Students
today are skeptical in understanding the true meaning of
cleanliness .This project has really has helped me digging
deep into their minds and made them apprised of true
aspects of a cleanliness.
I hereby would also like to thank the Principal, teachers as
well as all the staff working in the school for providing me a
guidance to express myself in a better way amongst the
students. At last I would also like to thank all the students of
the school to understand the message I wanted to convey
and also the faith they showed in me.
I would also like to thank Lovely Professional University for
providing me such an opportunity to serve our society and
helping me in gaining the true meaning of knowledge and to
become a better citizen for the society as well for our
country.
