The double–headed arrows indicates the cause and the effect of the event. The events occur naturally like tsunami,
hurricane, and many more by the interactions of the earth’s system. There are ten possible types of interactions
that could occur within the earth system which includes the earth’s four sphere.

3 . Lithosphere

The Lithosphere which contains all of the cold, hard solid land of the planet's crust (surface), the semi-solid land
underneath the crust, and the liquid land near the center of the planet. The solid, semi-solid, and liquid land of the
lithosphere form layers which are physically and chemically different.

these are the effects of the event of Lithosphere:

 Penetration of the crusts of the Lithosphere causing Volcano eruptions

Case Analysis 2
 Land degradation caused from craters destroying land
 Shock waves through the lithosphere can lead to irreversible changes in the rocks and minerals of the
target, and also vaporizing the impacted body. The release wave can run back to the surface, and cause the
ejection of large amounts of material out of the crater.

Hydrosphere

The Hydrosphere which contains all the solid, liquid, and gaseous water of the planet. The hydrosphere ranges
from 10 to 20 kilometers in thickness and extends from Earth's surface, downward several kilometers into the
lithosphere and upward about 12 kilometers into the atmosphere.

these are the effects of the event of Hydrosphere:

 Mass amounts of evaporation and vaporization of the water resulting in loss of total fresh and salt water
around the planet
 Tidal waves and Tsunamis caused by the impact which could easily flood the interior of continents
 Contamination of the water from chemical processes between the minerals inside the meteor and the water,
also from Acid Rain

Biosphere

The Biosphere which contains all the planet's living things. The Biosphere includes all of the microorganisms,
plants, and animals of the Earth.

these are the effects of the event of Biosphere:

 Shock waves, Tsunamis, Volcanos, Fireballs and other consequences of Meteor impacts can cause deaths
and extinction of many species of flora and fauna.
 Impacts in oceans would cause disruption in the underwater ecosystem and cause extinction and
destruction of many underwater life habitat
 The large quantities of dust put into the atmosphere would block incoming solar radiation. The dust could
take months to settle back to the surface. The Earth in the meantime would be in a state of continual
darkness, and temperatures would drop throughout the world, generating global winter like conditions not
ideal for many types of life.
Case Analysis 2
Atmosphere

The Atmosphere which contains all the air in Earth's system. The Atmosphere extends from less than 1 m below
the planet's surface to more than 10,000 km above the planet's surface. The upper portion of the atmosphere
protects the organisms of the biosphere from the sun's ultraviolet radiation and absorbs and emits heat.

these are the effects of the event of atmosphere:

 The large quantities of dust and debris from the Lithosphere, put into the atmosphere would block
incoming solar radiation. The dust could take months to settle back to the surface. Meanwhile, the Earth
would be in a state of continual darkness, and temperatures would drop throughout the world, generating
global winter like conditions (also called impact winter). Blockage of solar radiation would also diminish
the ability of photosynthetic organisms, like plants, to photosynthesize. Since photosynthetic organisms are
the base of the food chain, this would seriously disrupt all ecosystems.
 If the Meteorite was to land in the oceans, then large quantities of carbon dioxide and water vapor would
be thrown in the atmosphere. Both these gases scatter solar radiation and create a warming effect. Thus,
after the initial global cooling, the atmosphere would undergo global warming for many years after the
impact.

4. Events can occur naturally, such as an earthquake or a hurricane, or they can be caused by humans,
such as an oil spill or air pollution. An event can cause changes to occur in one or more of the spheres,
and/or an event can be the effect of changes in one or more of Earth's four spheres. This two-way cause
and effect relationship between an event and a sphere is called an interaction. Interactions also occur
among the spheres for example, a change in the atmosphere can cause a change in the hydrosphere, and
vice versa. Interactions that occur as the result of events such as floods and forest fires meaning the flood
waters can only travel so a lot of miles from the original stream, and only the trees that lie within the area
on fire will be burned. On the other hand, the effects of events such as El Nino or ozone depletion may
cause interactions that can be observed worldwide. El nino cause changes in weather patterns all the way
across North America, while ozone depletion above Antarctica may result in increased levels of ultra-
violet B radiation around the world. Understanding the interactions among the earth's spheres and the
events that occur within the ecosystem allows people to predict the outcomes of events. Being able to
predict outcomes is useful when, for example, developers wish to know the environmental effects of a
project such as building an airport before they begin construction.
