CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

I. Background of the Study

The Philippines is one of the few countries that produces the four varieties of
commercially-viable coffee: Arabica, Liberica (Barako), Excelsa and
Robusta. Coffee may be popular for being a daily morning companion, but its benefits go
beyond just a caffeinated boost of energy. Caffeine also has several properties that are
good for your skin, doing everything from skin exfoliation, skin softening, skin
tightening, anti-oxidation, diminishing under-eye circles, reducing inflammation and
redness, and cellulite reduction

II. Statement of the Problem

Does creating your own face mask with non-hazardous components that are easily
found in households better than buying store-bought face masks that are usually
expensive?

III. Significance of the Study

Being able to create your own face mask with safe components is much better than
buying expensive store-bought ones that sometimes do not work at all. Components that
are easily found in households have many benefits, just like coffee as seen on top. These
are affordable and useful unlike some products that cost a lot more that doesn’t do what
it’s supposed to do.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

I. Coffee Face Mask

Using coffee to create products made for the face. As well as using other affordable
items easily found in households.

II. Components of a Coffee Face Mask

You will need 1/2 cup of ground organic coffee beans (you can grind your own or
buy pre-ground), 1/2 cup of organic, unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 cup of unsweetened
whole milk or almond milk, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (for dry skin, try olive or almond
oil), 1 tablespoon of honey (for extra oily or acne prone skin, use additional lemon juice
here instead of honey).

III. Process
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix the finely ground coffee beans with the cocoa
powder. Add in the milk and stir until it creates a paste. For a thicker paste, use less milk.
Fold in lemon juice and honey. Apply to skin and let dry up to 20 minutes. Wash off and
store any extras in the fridge for up to 3 days.

IV. Economic Importance of a Coffee Face Mask

Using affordable components means spending less money on useful component,
meaning using money in a wise way.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

I. Materials Used
The materials used were a medium-sized mixing bowl, a whisk, measuring cups,
and spoons, and a small container to store the final product.

II. Procedures
First measure all the components needed such as the ground coffee beans,
unsweetened cocoa powder, milk, lemon juice, coconut/almond/olive oil, and honey.
Then, in a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine all the dry components with the milk
until it forms a paste. After, add in the rest of the wet components such as the lemon,
honey and, olive/coconut/almond oil. Mix well and store into a clean small container.

CHAPTER IV
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
I. Results
The final result of our Investigatory Project was a combination of success and
failure. It did what it’s supposed to do which is a big thing while the failure part was
the consistency and how fast it gave a bad, sour odor.

II. Discussions
While we were on the process of stirring all the components in a mixing bowl,
we were starting to see it forming like a paste except it was not in the liquid, creamy
side. It was more on the spread-type of consistency that is easily compared to a
peanut butter spread. Besides that our final product worked better on people with dry
skin since we put more oil in the mixture.

4
CHAPTER V
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
I. Conclusions
In conclusion, our Coffee Face Mask was a 50/50 success. It formed a much
more solid consistency than we were expecting since we expected it to be like paste
and more on the liquid side. Besides the consistency, The face mask didn’t do what
it’s supposed to do quickly in one usage. But, one of our members tried to use it every
night and we saw a difference. Her face was definitely smoother, it had a natural
glow, and it kept her face from getting dry.

II. Recommendations
It is recommended that when making this face mask, it should be in smaller
amounts that can last for about a week or less because after more than a week it
creates this sour odor that is very unpleasant. This is because the components present
in this face mask are all food. Another recommendation is if you have a skin type that
is more on the oily side, you should use more of the lemon juice, on the other hand
for those who have a skin type that is more on the dry side, you should substitute the
lemon juice with oil such as olive/almond/coconut oil.
