TOURISM PLANNING

OF
HERMANA MAYOR
5.1 INTRODUCTION
The “main beach” has off-white sands. It
looks golden during early morning, and looks
so white during noon.
The sands are not that compact compared to
the sands at the sandbar part. If you are to
swim with kids, swim here because the water
is calm and not too deep. Unlike the water
around the sandbar, though it’s calm too, but
it gets deep quickly.

AREA PROFILE
Hermana Mayor, also with its own airstrip, is
2.5 nautical miles directly west of the
headland at Santa Cruz, Zambales. Nearly
four nautical miles northwest lies Hermana
Menor. Manicured like a golf fairway, with
a well-marked 1,000-meter x 60-meter grass
runway.
Methodology cycle

Sustainability is one of the vital concepts of

tourism development. The development of
tourist destinations widely depends on its
social responsibilities, political stability and
well planned tourism future goal.

DATA ANALYSIS
Hermana Mayor and her little sister are not
very popular to the public. But their beauty
can rival other islands and tourist
attractions. It just happened that we went
there at the wrong time because of the
typhoon that visited the province of
Zambales. The island herself is beautiful but
too far from Manila if bound by land. It’ll be
better to add additional travel itineraries to
enjoy more of Zambales tour packages.
There are no stores or groceries on the island,
so it is better to bring your necessities before
going in. You also won’t be able to find a
restaurant or a cafe within the premises. But
worry not if you’ve forgotten this important
detail, the tricycle driver that will bring you
to the port will most likely remind you to
buy a packed lunch before departure.
It is also not allowed to camp overnight on
the island as well as set a campfire.

PURPOSE OF VISIT:
Hermana Mayor is a beautiful island to relax,
and sunbathe while you drink your favorite
mojito. has a long and gorgeous stretch of a
sandbar which is open to all tourists. A few
starfish and corals can be seen underwater, so
don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gears!
Another notable thing that can be done on the
island is surfing. When we visited the island,
the waves were so angry that it wanted to
suck us up below the ocean. You can use
those angry waves to your advantage.

FACILITIES
PLANNING PROPOSAL:
1. Leave no trace. This is a basic
principle when traveling anywhere.
Don’t leave your trash behind and do
not vandalize.
2. Don’t trespass in the main house.
Curiosity might get the better of you
but just admire the house from afar. If
you want to go nearby the mansion, ask
permission from the caretaker first.
3. Swim at your own risk. Don't stray
too far from the shore as some parts of
the beaches gradually turn deep in just a
few steps.
4. Respect the marine and
wildlife. Never feed the animals.
Observe them from a distance.
5. Bonfire is NOT allowed. Yes, it’s cute
and perfect for Instagram but it leaves
ugly patches along the shore.
6. Most importantly, flying a drone is
NOT allowed. This, along with the
bonfire, is the reason why staying
overnight is already prohibited in the
island. The caretaker told us that a
group, which stayed overnight, started
a bonfire and flew a drone around the
island, without permission. This irked
the owners and for a time, they closed
the island to the public. When they
opened it again, they became more
cautious and restricting, and for good
reasons.
